Sources: Petraeus Knew About Affair For More Than A Year
November 12, 2012 | ISSUE 48•46 | More News in Brief

WASHINGTON—High-level sources in Washington confirmed today that CIA director David Petraeus was fully aware of his extramarital affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell almost a year before the story broke last week. “All evidence suggests Petraeus quite probably had extensive and detailed knowledge about his protracted sexual relationship with Paula Broadwell as early as last fall, shortly after he began having sex with her,” said former Army spokesman Steve Boylan, adding that Petraeus was likely well informed of his own adultery throughout the course of his entire relationship with Broadwell, and may indeed have had full knowledge of various intimate details of said relationship. “There is strong reason to believe that Petraeus came across explicit e-mails sent between Mrs. Broadwell and himself not long after he wrote them, and that his awareness of the romance was more or less confirmed somewhere around the time he began having a yearlong affair with her.” Additional sources concluded it was very likely Petraeus knew he was completely fucked about 10 seconds after resigning.![]()

Yeah, laugh laugh laugh. You think its easy being a 4 star. Try it sometime. You gotta tesitfy before Congress and your wife tosses an english muffin with marmalade on it all over your decorations or hides your stars. You think you can run down to the PX and find a 4 star generals pin next to a PFC’s?
OK, I cheated on her but what the fuck. You spend a year in Afghanistan and see if you don’t start finding the goats looking sexy after you learn the women all smell like goats and their husbands will suicide bomb you if so much as try and peek underneath their burqas. The president orders you to train these towel heads and you try and tell him that you could train a rattlesnake to be loyal with more ease than these savages and that every time an Afghan general enters the room you reach for you gun in case he decides to pull any funny stuff in the room.
Yeah, I disgraced myself and let me tell you, I’ d do it again after spending a decade fighting the war on terror. I can’t wait to get off these Air Force jets and feel the soft fingers of a TSA agent fondling me for explosives. I’ll probably blow my load in then and there. A decade in the Muslim world will do that to a man as will a month with that fat suburban piece of shit I married.

Jim,
I was 11 in 1963, 5th grade. I remember eating lunch in the school cafeteria and listening to the World Series (NY Yankees vs LA Dodgers) with “transistor” radios.
Thanks for everything you do for TBP. It is greatly appreciated.

1963 was the year America died. Rock n Roll had grown lame. The Four Seasons were topping the charts with sugary harmony about teen age love but out west there was a growl on transistor radios as the Beach Boys started singing about important things like horsepower and Super Stock Dodges when they weren’t cooing about their ‘little surfer girl. Sandy Koufax stood atop baseball like a God!
Then it all came crashing down. Kennedy got shot in Dallas. They let us out of school early and people were crying. I felt sick as I got on the bus to go home. The Russians were ahead of us in space, negroes were marching in the south and my comfortable world of American supremacy was about to come unravelled as the English guys who didn’t use Brylcream and could out rock Americans made it clear we were no longer the center of the world.

What’s an American general supposed to look like, Rob? Here’s a picture of another American general. He smoked and was bald. (Psssst. Please keep this quiet. There were rumors he also had an affair. I won’t tell anyone if you don’t.)

I’ve gone from the worst of times to the best and back, probably won’t live through the next phase. At any given time, there was always something to embrace and cherish. So it goes.

Petraeus looks nothing like Ike…but Paula Broadwell looks a great deal like Kay Summersby…enough for me to wonder if she was her..in a past life. Hmmmm.
Last summer I visited one of Ike’s billets in France…The Palace of King Stanislaus…generals always get the good quarters. No wonder their sex lives are better than that of enlisted men.

ASIG, napari, and Thinker
If the idea is to purge all the top generals and admirals, “they” have a long way to go. There are dozens and dozens of 3 and 4 stars and hundreds of 1 and 2 stars.
Down to the fighting units. Colonels (think brigade and wing commanders in the army and air force) and navy captains (carrier commanders)? More hundreds. Lieutenant colonels (battalion and squadron commanders in the army and air force) and navy commanders (assault ships, etc). More hundreds.
I wouldn’t worry about anyone trying to castrate the armed forces of its leadership or create some sort of vacuum. It’s literally impossible.

US politicians dumping on their military high command, SOCOM warriors and troops in general is incredibly stupid and counter-productive. History books are full of accounts of civilian rulers who abused their soldiers and treated them as less than equal, and the results were not happy ones. It’s easy to vote for war when you don’t have to participate in the fighting/dying part of it. Most of our politicians have never even worn the uniform.
