WE’RE #1

Keep saying it.

If we just keep spending $1.2 trillion more than we bring in, I’m sure we can turn this slight downturn around. Keep your chins up. Turn that frown upside down. We’re still the bright shining beacon on the mountaintop. It’s morning in America and that horrible sick feeling isn’t from a 30 year drunken debt induced hangover. If we just follow the prescription written by Japan for the last 20 years, I’m sure we’ll recover.

If we can just start another war, I’m sure that will boost our GDP and put us back on a sound financial path. As soon as Obama appoints Krugman as the new Treasury Secretary we can finally start implementing some sound economic policies.

Hilarious. The U.S. and Europe are falling out of bed. Turns out debt isn’t worth much. Debt is just debt, and interest on debt will drag us under sooner or later.

Russia and China are the opposite. Russian and China are also trying to undermine the U.S. dollar as world reserve currency. If we keep running up the debt, it will happen a lot sooner than anyone things. Losing reserve currency status will be the final nail in our coffin.

Only it’s not 30 years of piss poor debt accumulation, it’s 41 years – which is why, looking back on it, I wonder why the Old Heros and the Silents didn’t run Nixon out of town on a rail when he defaulted on U.S. international debt and slammed the gold window.

I’ve felt bad about that ever since I realized that was the start of all our problems. Look at _any_ chart on debt and you will see that it all started in 1971.. Shame on us old fogies for letting it happen.

Great Hal Holbrook line in the original “Wall Street” movie: “Too much cheap money sloshing around ever since that son of a bitch Nixon took us off the gold standard”. How right he was!

Oliver Stone Thinks Big With ‘Untold History’

“Come on, that’s such a canard, you know that,” Oliver Stone said. “‘The Greatest Generation?’ That was the biggest publishing hoax of all. It’s to sell books.”

This seemingly sacrosanct term was coined by Tom Brokaw for his 1998 book of the same title, in which he recounted the lives of ordinary, World War II-era Americans.

“I was in Vietnam with the Greatest Generation,” Mr. Stone said. “They were master sergeants, generals, colonels. They had arrogance beyond belief. The hubris that allowed Henry Kissinger to say North Vietnam is a fourth-rate power we will break. The hubris of that!”
