Among the natural rights of the colonists are these: First a right to life, secondly to liberty, and thirdly to property; together with the right to defend them in the best manner they can.

Thunderbird says:
Birth pangs for the coming psychological revolution!
The old ways of thinking and doing are worn out and everyone is pushing for a new reality. The PRI is old thinking and doing in Mexico just as the republican and democratic parties in this country represent obsolete and outdated thinking and doing.

Today at breakfast my wife of twenty years said the 5 words that every man needs to hear. It made me so happy and i have been just smiling the whole day.
I want my own pistol.
After i calmed down she basically told me she now thinks every last thing i have done for the family for the last twenty years will be needed. From the food storage to the deep well i get certified every 2 years and the antique farm implements in the barn she is now on board.
So we spent the day at target world. Shot a few different small frame revolvers and auto loaders. She decided on the small frame smith in 9mm. Holster and 2 extra mags and her own cleaning kit.
while paying for the kit we had the only real bad part of the day. The sales guy was bound and determined to get us to finance the piece. Real good deal too zero percent. Even went so far as to tell us he gets 20 bucks for each processed application. Um no thanks take these green pieces of promise please. They will be worthless someday.

Congratulations, JIMSKI. It sounds like you hit the motherlode. Get her some Hornady Critical Defense for carry-but confirm reliable function first.

Well i would like to think my cogent well laid out arguments led her to my side but i know better. It seems my sweety has been a closet right wing nutball for a while and when they could not stop the obama express she thinks it will happen sooner rather than later. There were hints. Whenever i would get in her car the sat radio was on patriot radio network and she has been reading some Savage.

i hand load all our defence loads. Cheaperthendirt for target practice. I have a 1894 in .357 that hits like a mild 308 out to 250 meters and is just a fun shooter. My son has out shot me several times with that rifle. I need optics for even mid range anymore.

Oh come on, in 1968 the Mexican police would have had a tank and machineguns behind that barrier and those ‘rioters’ would have been ‘dispersed’ with extreme prejudice.
My guess is, after what happened to Khadafy ( who was doing what he was asked to do) and Assad, is the next time people start it up in the third world they are going to find out that the price is high and that the US and Western Europe can mewl about it all they want but we don’t carry the weight we once did. Too many Shah’s, Mubarak’s and Khadafy’s line the road of our advice. They are going to start shooting and to hell with the New York Times. Afterall, despite Tianamen Square, that regime is not only still standing it is challenging the west.

AKAnon says:
JIMSKI-That’s even better-good for you. Although one legal advantage of using “store-bought” for carry is, should you get involved in a self-defense shooting (God forbid), you are less likely of being accused in the media of loading “especially lethal” ammo, especially if you are in a “gun-unfriendly” location. Personally, I’d prefer maximum effectiveness over that advantage-better judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Muck About says:
My opinion is better alive and in court than dead in a gutter. Jimski, my good man, persistence will out.
My sweetie thinks I’m a pessimist and depressed (I am really an optimist and certainly not depressed (except over specific items – the list grows longer) but she allows me my fun and has actually allowed a neighbor (who is educated in the matters of self defense and gold et al) to take her to a gun range and try out a handgun. So far, it appears that others can teach her more than her husband of 55 years can – which is not an uncommon thing.
However, she has graciously allowed me to do my minimal prepping and doesn’t shudder at the sight of the 18″ barrel Model 500 propped behind the bedroom door, nor the fact that I go armed whenever we go out – especially to Orlando. She may not be enthusiastic about “doom” but I have brought her around to the point of tolerating my strange ways PLUS – she’s started paying attention to articles in The Week and The Economist which point out the direction we’re headed.
I suspect the first significant raid of the free shit Army from Orlando into our particular area of the sticks will awaken her and a lot of my neighbors up..
Good going..

Remington used to sell hollow based swaged pre-lubed wadcutters for .38 special .357. etc.
Loaded backwards with a gas check over 3 grains of red dot will open up any intruders guts like a field dressed bear.

@FOTH -
Those assbackwards .38 loads are my favorite ever! Ultra cheap, ultra accurate, very slight recoil, practically no muzzle flash (even from my Dick Special), and pack a wallop WAY out of proportion to what they would seem on paper. You can roll your own for far less than the factory stuff, especially if you have your own lead pot – which you should. Brass will last forever and a day. Generally the case does not even need to be trimmed due to the low pressure. The primer pocket will wear out before anything else.
And – sorry auto lovers – wheelguns only. Which also means you don’t go looking for your brass.
