    An incredible movie (30 minutes) from 1962 — “Red Nightmare”

    Jack Webb (Dragnet), narrator. Actors include Jack Kelly (Maverick) and Robert Conrad (Wild Wild West. Film was actually produced by the Defense Department.

    Jack Webb introduces us to Jerry Donovan — an average guy who shrugs off his inconvenient, civic responsibilities. Jerry “wakes up” in a communist-controlled town, where he’s the only American left.

    Listen and watch in utter amazement as this 1962 film talks about what could happen to America …. militarily armed police … no need for search warrants … workers living under terrible conditions …. authorities eager to punish you …………….. and then let me know how long it takes you to say to yourself — “Holy Fuck! Jack Webb was talking about USA 2012t!!”

    This should be its own post, but I don’t know how to embed videos. So, watch it. You won’t be disappointed.

    Did you notice the cameo by the bearded guy in the Dylan video? It’s Allen Ginsburg. They were behind the Savoy Hotel in London. The hand lettered signs were made by Dylan, Ginsburg,Donovan, and Bob Neuwirth, from what I’ve read.

    That song was Dylan’s first Top 40 hit.

    Well, for sure, the movie is quite corny in a 1960’s kind of way. The fear of a commie behind every bush is something most here haven’t experienced first hand. (Being young does have its disadvantages.)

    I doubt you listened to it though. Because at the 2:15 mark the purpose of the film is clearly explained – how Mr. Donovon takes his liberties for granted. And then at the 27 min mark Jack Webb talks about freedom’s responsibilities being a privilege, freedom not being hereditary and it must be earned, freedom has a price and that price is vigilance and the responsibility of every citizen, not just the government. And that when freedom is left to only the government, freedom will be lost. Isn’t this a message the masses need to learn TODAY?

    Was the acting good? Not really. The point of posting it — and I’m sorry you weren’t astute enough to get it — is that Americans at one point understood what real “freedom” entailed (the main characters in this film were ‘The Greatest Generation’) compared to today where most think freedom is getting free shit or that freedom is mostly government’s responsibility. We have fallen a long, long way. And, we will continue to lose freedom after freedom seeing how most don’t even know how the fuck to define it. That’s the point.

    I am proud to say that I contributed to it being Dylan’s first top 40 hit. Goddamn … my mother HATED that song. So, I played it often … and loud.

    The red video was great. I was talking about the fucking airplanes. Sorry, long month at work and I found out its going to be a worse month vis a vis the auditors crawling up our assholes at work.

    On a positive note, I bought a Sigatms Predator and Nightmare and also a Browning Cynergy in .410 for my Bday/Xmas so the week will be tolerable.
