I am just absolutely convinced that the best formula for giving us peace and preserving the American way of life is freedom, limited government, and minding our own business overseas.

This whole ‘fiscal cliff’ charade is infuriating. The so called fiscal cliff is EXACTLY what Congress and the President agreed upon last year. If it is bad policy then every person who voted for it and the president who signed it should resign. This wasn’t a ‘mistake’ it was their carefully crafted ‘solution’.
Take responsibility for it don’t pretend you had nothing to do with it. Sell it to the public. Its got all both sides want. Higher tax rates, spending cuts and its broad based so that all must sacrifice.

The story of the 3 Wise Men is one of the most fascinating in the holy book.
Nowhere on the internet is there a better explanation than in this short video (2min24). For me, it opened my eyes to Truth I would otherwise never have known.

You all just KNOW that I HAVE to do this … debunking. Feel free to Thumbs Down vigorously.
.
1)- We have no idea how many Wise Men there were. All we know is there were 3 gifts. The actual entourage probably numbered in the hundreds.
2)- They did not see a “baby” Jesus. Matthew tells us they went to see a “child”. Jesus was probably about 2 years old at the time.
3)- They did not go to the “manger”. Matthew tells us the setting is a house.
4)- The “star” was not an astronomical or other natural-world event. It was a Supernatural event … most likely, it was an angel.
5)- Strangely – considering that God is All-Knowing – God mistakenly tells the Wise Men to go to Jerusalem. It was Herod who direct them to Bethlehem.
6)- The 3 Wise Men were not kings. astronomers, astrologists, kings, or sorcerers.
7)- The 3 Wise Men were most likely Hebrew Rabbis.
8)- Although possible, it is unlikely the Three Wise Men gave LITERAL gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Gold is the gift befitting of only a King. Frankincense represents a sinless nature … it was used in the OT as a “sin offering” to God. Myrrh was used as a spice to make bitter wine drinkable (Jesus prayed in Gethsemane “let this cup pass from me”), and to anoint dead bodies for burial (as Jesus’ was). The purpose of these gifts is to “prove” the divinity of Jesus, thus, it is likely they were symbolic.

1.- The article talks about this rare series of planetary groupings” occurring during the years 3 BC and 2, the time of Jesus’ birth. Only one problem with that …see #2 in my list above.
2.- Where is the proof from the rest of the world? No one else saw and recorded this event. Egyptians, Chinese, Babylonians and a whole bunch of other peoples were quite well versed in astronomy.
3. The Gospel text reads as such; — “ … the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it CAME TO REST OVER THE PLACE where the child was …” It is extremely unclear how a distant planetary event led the Magi to a pinpoint PLACE. It is even more unlikely that Herod and his experts would have missed such an event.
4. If the Magi were trained astronomers/astrologists one would expect them to be familiar with a planetary conjunction – not at all a rare event –, and certainly would not be fooled into thinking it was a star.
5. Main Point. Everyone who wants to make this star some astronomical event — planet, actual star, comet, super nova, meteor …. completely ignores or misunderstands biblical etymology. Jeebus was called “the bright and morning star” and “the star of David”. Does that mean Jeebus was a meteor? The bible refers to heavenly beings, especially angels, as “stars” from Genesis to Revelation. That people who should know better can’t or won’t connect the dots is astonishing. That these people want to take this one instance and interpret it as a LITERAL star is even more astonishing. Maybe they all work for Hallmark and don’t want to hurt Christmas ornament sales.

I’m not suggesting the link I posted is an explanation for the Christmas Star. It is simply a factual account of actual events visible in the sky around the time of the supposed birth of Christ. I have zero opinion on anything a bunch of opium smoking rag heads were seeing 2000+ years ago.

While our modern day “Christmas” has turned into and orgy of commercialism and greed, I would not be so quick to decry the scriptures as untrue on the subject of the birth of Christ.
We must all be convinced in our minds and hearts who Jesus is and then live with the consequences in this life and the next. Just because we cannot understand what God has revealed to us in His word does not make it wrong or untrue. I dont understand quantum physics, but that does not make it untrue. I have done some study of nuclear physics and we really do not know what holds things together at the atomic level and we just call it “binding energy” yet the scripture says of God that “He holds all things together by the power of His word”.

If the premise is wrong, the conclusion will be wrong. His premise is that the interpretation of “star” is a literal one.
OK, fine. If his premise is correct then maybe he’s right; or maybe it was a comet or nebulae or whatever. But, if his premise is incorrect then his conclusion is definitely incorrect.
Here is one curious question; Why is a literal star even NECESSARY? Specifically, why was a star necessary to point the Wise Men to Bethlehem? Think! The bible states that the Wise Men studied the scriptures. The scriptures clearly state, in writing, that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem, and there is zero doubt that the Wise Men read this. The Wise Men knew EXACTLY where Jesus would be born. Therefore, again, why would they need a literal star to guide them there? It makes no sense.

Well, I really didn’t want to do this, … I’m mostly having this conversation with myself anyways , my own method of self-gratification … but what the heck, for posterity sake …
.
Here, stars are angels. (Job 38:7)
“When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?”
—–
The seven stars in Revelation are angels. (Rev 2:1)
“And he had in his right hand seven stars … Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus”
—–
Here stars are princes and subordinate governors … unless one is to believe stars can be cast on the ground and stepped on. (Dan. 8:10)
“And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.”
—–
Here, stars are false human teachers. (Jude 1:13)
“Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.”
—-
Here, the stars are Satan and his minions. (Job 38:7)
“I will exalt my throne above the stars of God.”
—–
Here, a star falls from heaven …. but, again the “him” is an angel. (Rev 9:1)
“And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.”
.
I could make this a 10,000 word post, but I won’t, cuz you all SEE the point by now.

Regarding the video Stoneman posted; the guy says he was puzzled how the star was able to stay stationary over Bethlehem. Good question!! He came up with this explanation … which I had to listen to a few times.
OK. Planets/stars do appear to stop — from a human eye observation perspective – and this is called a “stationary point.” A planet normally moves eastward through the stars from one month to month, but they regularly exhibit something called a “retrograde loop.” That is, as the planet approaches the opposite point in the sky from the sun, it gives the appearance of slowing … coming to a full stop, and then moves backward (westward) through the sky for some weeks. The process repeats itself in reverse. The Magi, he says, rejoiced as they traveled southward and saw His star, Jupiter, which was at its stationary point, standing still over Bethlehem.
There ya go!! As plain and simple as the nose on your face. Lol
First, I challenge him, or you, to go out tonight and pick a planet or star … ANY one you want … and then tell me exactly under which city it is. Good luck.
Second, what you see here in terms of logic, is a back-asswards line of reasoning; in other words, lets FIRST come up with a conclusion (the star really did stand still), and only then come up with ‘facts’ to support it (retrograde loop) … instead of the other way around, facts leading to a conclusion. It is exactly this deeply flawed methodology that leads to all kinds of silliness (like, the earth is only 6,000 years old.)
