WHAT A JOKE!

I was doing some research for some letters I am writing to my elected slave masters…….I mean elected representatives, and ended up on the whitehouse.gov Petitions page. This a page of the White House website that is supposedly there to give the little people, (that’d be you and me) a voice in government.

Out of curiosity I decided to scroll through the list of open petitions and petitions that have already received responses.  While there are several worthwhile petitions there, the list of petitions is largely a joke! My takeaway is that many (most) of the people posting these things are basically begging the govt to get involved in every mundane element of their lives!

One petition calls for making “table tennis” part of school curriculum. One calls for Piers Morgan to be deported for practicing free speech. Another asks that pharmacists be made health care providers. Yet another asks that Facebook be forced to block all child pornography! Really!? Hey asswipe! Why not personally refuse to patronize Facebook forever if they are in fact allowing child pornography? Oh yeah, that might take away your right to post that you just took a shit or scratched your balls, as if the rest of the world really cares about you!

If you feel like wasting a few minutes of your life, you can see more of the lunacy for yourself at https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/

Until We The People learn to stand on our own two feet and reject the desire for govt to run our lives, we deserve what we get. Hell, I have to admit that if I were a career criminal…..I mean career politician and was the recipient of drivel like this, I might be inclined to do everything in my power to clamp down and control the population at large too! Maybe I should re-think writing those letters?

I should mention that writing letters to my congress critters is beginning to chap my ass. I really don’t think they care about the little guy. Evidence abounds in that regard. Worst of all, writing to them in and of itself gives them legitimacy they have neither earned or deserve. It really pisses me off to communicate with people I have no regard for. I have nothing but contempt for them. Writing to them makes me want to take a shower.

    I gave up long ago.

The biggest mistake most people make is the belief that our elected representatives care. Some do, but those at the top control the party.

@Stan “What if a person uses his free speech to try to destroy free speech?”

    Then that person gets elected.

There’s something I noticed several years ago, re email to congresscritters — the automatic gatekeeper, they don’t want to hear from you if you are not a constituent — never mind a given one might be chairman of some committee. Oh well.

There’s seven million of us living other places (not including military) who really have no representatives. And the number is growing.

I stopped writing to members of Congress nearly 30 years ago. For all my efforts, I received one, just one, reply that was personal, addressed my concern, and personally signed, not that robo-signature shit. And that member of Congress was Senator Barry Goldwater.

Here’s the rub. I was objecting to a local state issue that involved a dumbass movement in Phoenix to erect a statue to honor Vietnam War protesters (this happened in the mid-1980s). The issue was totally beyond any authority Goldwater had as a U.S. senator. Didn’t matter to Barry. He shared my displeasure and wrote back with one brief paragraph containing this closing sentence, “I can assure you this will never happen.”

    I still have the letter.

I write lots of letters. Some have been known to start out with “how can you be so stupid” and a recent one started out something to the effect “are you corrupt or what”. That one brought an actual response. But mostly they are ignored. Hey, if every citizen sent 10 letters a year, they would be swamped by billions of letters. They would be kept busy opening those suckers and maybe they would not have time to fuck things up.
