It tastes like chicken. Try and guess who might eat this KFC Extra Squiggly Kidney Special.

It’s A Brain? It’s A Kidney? It’s KFC’s Next PR Nightmare

As if Yum Brands were not suffering enough this morning – as they forecast China comp sales to drop 6% (more than the forecast 4% decline), it seems the UK has their next PR disaster waiting to happen, courtesy of their KFC brand. After a 19-year-old Brit found a “horrible wrinkled foreign body” in his fried chicken meal, KFC has apologized (rather magnanimously) saying “while there was no health risk, we agree it was unsightly.” Judge for yourself just how puke-worthy and generally emotionally scarred you would have been after biting into this ‘brain-looking’ image. KFC clarifies: “Although we haven’t received the product, it appears from a photograph that unfortunately on this occasion a kidney, and not a brain as claimed, was not removed in the preparation process.” Oh, just a kidney? Pass the salt then.

YEP – You were right. FriedKidneyLaquesha would eat it – as long as she could pay for it with her EBT card.

Eating at KFC* period is puke-worthy

Previously known as Kentucky Fried Chicken before they re-branded themselves as KFC to appear less shitty.

Normally they just grind those up and serve them as nuggets. Must have fallen on the floor and somebody picked it up and tossed it on to the wrong conveyor belt. Mmmm.

A kidney from what? A chicken’s kidney can’t be that big.

It’s amazing how big a kidney a chicken can grow with the right hormones.

Besides, as someone pointed out it isn’t Kentucky Fried Chicken anymore, it’s KFC. Part of the re-branding is to get away from the whole notion that what you’re eating is chicken. It coul;d be deep-fried anything. Who would know?

  9. Thinker says:

The PR reason given for the name change was that consumers increasingly viewed the word, “fried” as unhealthy and wouldn’t even go into the restaurant despite the addition of grilled and “healthier” choices on the menu. The name change campaign was all about “we’re better for you now, so we’re changing our name to reflect that” and “you call us KFC anyway.”

In reality, they HAD to change their name when the Commonwealth of Kentucky trademarked the name, “Kentucky.” The Commonwealth (State) was broke and wanted to start claiming royalty rights for anything with Kentucky in the name. Thus, KFC got out of paying millions, if not billions, in royalties.

Incidentally, the Kentucky Derby also renamed to become, “The Run for the Roses” and you can’t find Kentucky Bluegrass seed anymore. I know there are other examples, but I can’t think of them right now.

Being a former bird hunter I can tell what that is. A right nice pile of lower GI is what that mess is. Whenever we would shoot a mess of ducks there would be a pile of that stuff.

Never thought to fry it up.

I thnk you’re right, Jimski. Those invaginations do look like intestinal villi, the inner wall of the lower gut.

Tripe. Never had any chicken tripe. Not even in East Texas.

  12. AWD says:

Definitely not intestine or kidney. I spent a whole year dissecting a cadaver, and it was so much fun that I was then an anatomy fellow and taught PA’s at my school.

It’s brain tissue, without a doubt. And not human brain either.

KFC is making up for it with their new offering:

This is dessert for obese people after they finish consuming 8000 calories at the KFC buffet.

I dissected a cadaver too, although it was so long a go it seems like another life. We did dissect human cadavers, though, and not chickens.

I defer to your expertise, AWD. A brain it is, if you say so.

  17. Stucky says:

That is NOT a chicken brain. How do I knowz?

    1. Because KFC apologized for it being a brain. We know they lie. Whatever it is, they apparently feel it is BETTER to claim it’s a brain. That is fucking scary.

    2. Because a chicken brain is somewhat smaller than a dime. Whatever the fuck in Jeebus’ name that pic is … it is a lot larger than a dime.

    I’m guessing it’s AWD’s brain.

That part is loaded with MSG too to make sure it is extra healthy, extra delicious and causes extra cravings. I used to live in Louisville, KY where the YUM home office is. KFC is more popular in New Zealand than in the U.S. (probably helps keep YUM afloat) among certain segments – I kid you not . I also read that MSG is in all of KFCs food (well maybe not whatever sweet stuff they have). Hey, at least in New Zealand, the chicken they use are not fed GMO. Makes me want to run right doen there now (not)!

  23. SAH says:

Well, I help butcher chickens at the little farm next door and have removed the guts and giblets myself many times. I’m with JIMSKI on this one – that is the *intestines* of the chicken, not a brain or kidney. Chicken brain is the size of a shelled peanut, and is so tiny it wouldnt ever be found in the KFC breading. The kidney is also very tiny (and nutritious! Full of B12 and heme iron)… It is most certainly not chicken ‘tripe’ which is the lining of the stomach. Nope, that fried pile is the chicken’s shit shoot, plain and simple. That is the only chicken part it could possibly be… Assuming it came from a chicken.

Only other possibility is that AWD is 1/2 correct and it’s a brain – but if its a brain it didn’t come from a chicken, that’s for fucking sure… Monkey maybe? Cat? Small ape?

Why would ANYONE eat in a fast food joint? Yeh, I know…brainwashed TV addicts. They are all over Manila also. They seem to be doing a good business, for now. Same brainwashing going on here also. And the number of fat Filipinos seems to be climbing in the 5 years I have been here. Most have not reached the wide-load stage as Americans have. Maybe they will be lucky and the whole system will collapse before they get that big. Of course here, it is the wealthier who partake. It is still not for the average worker at $10 per day when a bucket and sides is $16+. I checked prices to compare with the Us. Same prices here but cheaper labor = more profit.
