  2. Steve Hogan says:

You’d think people would be alert enough to know that we can’t pay back the enormous debt. Heck, we can’t even balance a budget (it might help if the Senate managed to pass a budget of any kind, but that’s another matter).

The solution is simple yet painful: debt repudiation. Bondholders get a severe crew cut. Public sector pensions are torn up and re-written with its members fully funding their own retirement. Entitlement recipients get smaller checks (preferably means-tested). No more $500 Pentagon toilet seats and billion dollar bombers.

With the nation’s credit card withdrawn, it would force the government to FINALLY make the hard choices. We might even rediscover our civil liberties while reclaiming our economic freedoms.

The alternative is hyperinflation and America becoming a banana republic.

when dad loses his mind in a midlife crisis he begins an affair with a young damsel of ill repute and easy morals. at length dad’s family suffers when the money is going to fund the young slattern’s lifestyle. jr starts acting up in school, mom gives up arguing with dad and resorts to extreme measures, hoarding food and money in anticipation of a cataclymic disaster. dad also sees blood in the horizon and decides to go out with a bang. he begins to spend at an accelerated pace, having lost the sense of self preservation that kept him from spending too wildly on his erstwhile girlfriend. the neighbors begin to see public displays of disaffection. drug dealers prey on jr, the neighbor attempts to seduce dad’s daughter.
when anything goes with dad, everything goes with the home. sic transit america.

non, i was following up on hogan’s comment, my take on it is that the gov’t cannot wake up and make a rational decision to repudiate the debt because the gov’t has lost it’s collective mind. me boomer, no speeky techy, please to use oldspeak.
