Woman plunges through UES sidewalk

A heavyset woman caved through an Upper East Side sidewalk last night — dropping six feet into a huge hole where she was eventually pulled out by emergency crews using a crane-like rescue unit, authorities said.
The 31-year-old Queens woman was huddled up against the wall of Atomic Wings at the Blue Room Grill on the corner of East 60th Street and Second Avenue, seeking shelter from the rain while waiting for a bus, when the sidewalk below her gave way around 9:15 p.m., witnesses said.
“It happened so fast she did not scream or anything. Everybody in the bar got up to look.”
She was taken to Cornell Hospital where she was treated for shoulder injuries and listed in stable condition.
The woman fell straight through the concrete into an area below that appeared to lead to the restaurant’s basement, witnesses added.
FDNY Fire Chief Thomas Jemmott said the woman had to be pulled up in “high-angle rescue unit” resembling a crane with cargo netting.
“Pretty sophisticated stuff,” he said. “She is a very large person, but we were able to secure her and stabilize her and lift her out of the hole.”
Messages left with the city’s Buildings Department and Transportation Department went unanswered.

300 hundred pounder huh? It’s likely she is already on disability and medicaid with a Section 8 housing voucher and food stamps to fill her benefits cornucopia.
The US government needs to impose some weight restrictions on food stamp recipients. I’m not talking about requiring people to be at some ideal body weight in order to qualify but obviously the last thing a 300 plus sidewalk crushing woman needs is Supplemental Nutrition Assistance. Denying her a SNAP EBT card is saving her life.

The Atomic Wing probably got swallowed whole, lucky the thing didn’t reach critical mass.

Sorry, kids, I don’t give a damn how freakishly fat and unattractive a woman is, there is no excuse for a sidewalk that gives way beneath such a light load. If a sidewalk can’t hold a 300 lb woman, how can it carry hundreds of people at a time who weight anywhere from 100 lb to 500 lb ? How can you move heavy furniture across it?
Her weight had nothing to do with the collapse of the sidewalk- we have tens of thousands of huge, muscular men who weigh in at that much, though these super-big boned, muscular specimens are not the least bit overweight. 300 lb is 300 lb, whether it is overburdening a small female frame or spread out nicely on a large male one.

The only wings i can eat are the ones i make. I do use the hooters breading but the sauce is what makes a wing. That and peanut oil. I grow a handful of peppers and the best for wings are dried cayenne in a good quality bbq sauce.
Even though my wings rock I bet I do not have them but maybee 2 times a year. Breakfast meat is another story but ya know you hafta die from something. Old age seems a rough way to go.
