It has been urged then that a public debt, greater than we can possibly pay before other causes of adding new debt to it will occur, has been artificially created, by adding together the whole amount of the debtor & creditor sides of accounts instead of taking only their balances, which could have been paid off in a short time: -Letter from Jefferson to Washington, 23 May 1792

Interesting article on sales tax today. Looks like the States might be leading the charge.

I actually like sales tax as opposed to making the middle class support every entitlement give-away program the federal government can dream up…but then maybe that’s because I’m middle class.

These red states are looking at doing away with state income tax, a move I think is aimed at taxpayer flight, which is becoming an issue. They are also looking at eliminating corporate income tax as well, which I see as the plum for the rich in this pie. Will eliminating corporate income tax be revenue positive for the states? I doubt it.

I think sales tax hikes on nearly every kind of consumable is coming soon, at the national and state level. They have to get money from somewhere, and taxing consumption is easy, and will be just too tempting to ignore.
