“How’s that National Conversation going?” Like I wrote about in a post almost 6 months ago, 3D printers are here to stay (HERE) and they will have an impact despite our owners’ best attempts.
Technology makes so many things obsolete, one of those things being unconstitutional and immoral laws.
One of the most likely avenues that the gun-grabbers will take is a ban on the so-called “hi-cap” magazines. Just like the days of and leading up to prohibition; smart, inventive, and resourceful people developed work-arounds that made the decrees of the political elites moot. Below is a 30 round AR-15 magazine (in clear plastic) that came off of a 3D printer. HERE is the article from Extreme Tech.
Here is an early attempt, which ended prematurely due to what looks like a feeding issue.
But then whatever bugs existed must have been worked out because it runs fine in both semi-auto and in 3 round burst.
Obviously it isn’t as robust as a Magpul P-Mag but one must walk before they can run.

Maybe the 3-D printer can create a president or politicians that aren’t criminals or imbeciles.

Can it print a sock we can insert in Obama’s mouth? Shove the other one in Biden’s pie hole. On second thought, that won’t be necessary, as he spends every waking hour inserting his foot there.
Here is our Dear Leader informing “gun nuts” that we should examine our consciences:

I find this rich, considering that this very same individual maintains a kill list, wages wars on a whim, and drone-strikes civilians. The chutzpah of this man knows no bounds.

If I could wave my magic wand…
I am made from the dust of the stars
And the oceans flow in my veins
Here I hide in the heart of the city
Like a stranger coming out of the rain
The evening plane rises up from the runway
Over constellations of light
I look down into a million houses
And wonder what you’re doing tonight
If I could wave my magic wand
I’d make everything all right
I’m not one to believe in magic
But I sometimes have a second sight
I’m not one with a sense of proportion
When my heart still changes overnight
I had a dream of a winter garden
A midnight rendezvous
Silver, blue and frozen silence
What a fool I was for you
I had a dream of the open water
I was swimming away out to sea
So deep I could never touch bottom
What a fool I used to be
If I could wave my magic wand
I’d set everybody free
I’m not one to believe in magic
Though my memory has a second sight
I’m not one to go pointing my finger
When I radiate more heat than light
Don’t ask me
I’m just improvising
My illusion of careless flight
Can’t you see
My temperature’s rising
I radiate more heat than light
Don’t ask me
I’m just sympathizing
My illusions a harmless flight
Can’t you see
My temperature’s rising
I radiate more heat than light

I wanted a GPS jammer. Found them on line at a place called Chinavasion on line. Found out a GPS jammer also came standard with cell phone jamming and 800 mhz radio jamming. Not long range but you can keep your vehicle from squealing on you. I ordered some knowing they were illegal in the US but UPS delivered them right to my door. Had a lot of fun with them and ordered a big one that could shut down every cell phone within a 1000 feet. Worked great at intersections when the idiot in from of you wanted to chat when the light turned green.
Back to high capacity magazines. This is about as low tech as it gets. A few pieces of stamped metal and a spring. Order a box of 50 and snap them together at home. Using a 3D printer to make ammo magazines is like using a $100,000 CNC machine tool to make a nail!
Back to cellphone jamming. Had a dispute with Alltel back when they were still a company. My Nokia phone wouldn’t charge anymore and I went to get a new battery. They said my phone was obsolete and they didn’t have any batteries for it. I liked the phone though but they said I would have to contact Nokia to try and get a battery but they said I had been a customer long enough I qualified for a free upgrade so I said ok and it was only when T-Mobile came out with the Sidekick that had intternet access did I learn that Alltel had ‘upgraded’ me into another two year contract. I wasn’t happy when I tried to return my ‘free upgrade’ after I got my Sidekick and was told I would have to pay Alltel $100 to get out of the contract. A month or so later I got my big cell phone jammer, now mounted on my dash. I went to the Alltel outlet and parked out front one Saturday and turned it on. Chaos soon erupted in the store. Employees came out walking around trying to get a signal. I would let them. For a minute or two. Then I would turn off Alltel off again. I did that the next Saturday too till I figured I had cost them far more lost business than the $100 they had ripped me off for!

Another tech toy destined to go nowhere. Just what we need more plastic junk. And how much did those clips cost? No mention of cost was there? Or practicality/durability.
I saw these ‘miracles’ pimped a lot of places as being able to make anything. Plastic houses? Where will the plastic come from? At $120 per barrel, a barrel of oil will make about six auto tires. It takes about a barrel of oil to make a cubic yard of concrete. What about the rebar (steel) does the machine print steel? THAT I want to see!. Lots of neat ideas were tried and they faded into the sunset when reality set in. Like plastic houses … and fire.

there are 3d printers that are close to being capable of using metal (aluminum; not steel yet)
a printer like the one they used has to more than $4k and I read that the material needed to make the mag was right around $20. not ideal but not much more than a magpul pmag (pre sandy hook) which is also made of plastic(albeit not the same). The pmag is a much better prouduct but likely won’t be available for much longer.
i don’t see how they will ever do barrels but with it going essentially open source then there will be millions of people using their minds to come up with possible solutions, testing it and redesigning and repeating.

Harry P;
Actually they have 3D technology that do “print” ferrous alloys.
I have samples on my desk as I write.
These must be sintered after printing to get any strength out of the finished part. Holding tight part tolerances still not there yet.
Its also a bitch to do secondary operations on like sink or wire EDM on them.
The gubmint ( Aberdeen Proving Ground) always has the best and latest tech toys on the market.
R&D; Aint it wonderful?

Bob, this is bullshit in a new form, that’s all. The only printer that is important is the one printing fiat money to keep the economy alive. When it shuts down, and it will, all these tech toys will disappear like ice in the desert. There will be no one interesting in buying/manufacturing them. You are obviously young or in the tech business and cannot see outside of your narrow vision.
