Very interesting article on page one of the NYT Sunday Business this a.m., by Gretchen Morgenson. Richard Fisher of the Dallas Fed has a plan for bank reform.
I’m sure some of you have seen it. I can never get links to the Times to work. Here’s a Bloomberg synopsis from earlier in the week. I’m very glad to see Fisher taking the lead on this.
I expect to hear about Fisher being run over and killed, or see pics on Facebook of him snorting coke with hookers any day now.
eddie, i just can’t come up with one coherent idea about this. if someone suggested the social security program be restructured, i’d understand that they found a way to avoid explaining where the money went. big banks going for restructuring now? why didn’t they come up with that idea before they sucked up trillions in bailout monies? the worrisome part is that they believe they’ve run out of time. while we focus on the iceberg, they will be busy boarding the lifeboats.
Breaking up the big banks is a damn fine idea in my book. I’m surprised to hear it come from Fisher, because he’s on the Fed. He’s never been afraid to speak his mind, though, and what he’s suggesting would go a long way to reigning in the TBTF’s …but I don’t think it will come to pass.

There are two ways of being happy: We must either diminish our wants or augment our means – either may do – the result is the same and it is for each man to decide for himself and to do that which happens to be easier. — Ben Franklin
