Wherever we’re headed, America is evolving in ways most of us don’t like or understand. Individually focused yet collectively adrift, we wonder if we’re heading toward a waterfall. Are we?

sangell says:
I prefer the opposite angle. Let’s assume Bernanke, in order to stimulate ‘aggregate demand’ in the economy announces tonight he is crediting every American’s bank account with $10 million. What happens tomorrow? Do the factories hum with fresh orders? Well the orders might be coming in but not the workers. You might decide to take first class trip to the Ritz Carlton in San Francisco but its doubtful your plane will take off or your room will be ready when you arrive. Who in the hell is going to go to work on Monday when they learn they have $10 million to spend Sunday night?
The only people who will benefit are those who can strip the Porsche dealership of its inventory before the crowds arrive or sign a contract to buy a mansion before the bidding war begins.

point a. i have a few americano friends who cannot understand why in this day and age, we have not solved the illegal immigration problem. i try to explain that a person who hires an illegal immigrant has an unfair advantage because he does not pay SS taxes or scale for the type of work performed. when builders hire illegal plumbers and electricians for $15 per hour maybe even $25 per hour it is uncle sam who is taking it in the shorts because these workers will rely on government paid healthcare or even welfare that the employer never paid into for that illegal employee.
point b. even if they wanted to do it, americano laborers cannot compete with illegal laborers because employers are required by law to pay a minimum wage and SS taxes on that wage.
point c. it is competition that creates wealth. if everyone made 1 million per annum, no one would be rich. it is the difference in costs that determines sales. yes, i understand that sales create wealth, but quality being equal customers buy based on cost. when quality doesn’t matter, customers buy on price. this is the area where labor cost makes a difference for employers. if they can pay less for labor, they can compete on price and accumulate wealth. wealth is what moves the world. those who aim to accumulate all the wealth are as destructive as those who attempt to level the playing field for everyone thus killing competition, productivity and wealth accumulation.

Anotherjuan: Even worse, we’re giving the illegals free healthcare and free tuition to state university (at least in Colorado). We’ve do more, far more, for them than we do for most Americans. Why wouldn’t they come? And if they like to be criminals they can just run back over the border before they get caught.

Makati1 says:
But the name of the game is to level the playing field…on a lower level.
Step one: Send good paying jobs to low wage countries. Force Americans to work for less in order to work at all. The illegal immigrant system does the same thing from within the US border.
Step two: Get most of the population to rely on government handouts (buy votes) and steer them to the government you want. (Welfare, unemployment, government jobs, SSI, Medicare/caid, health coverage, etc.)
Step three: Create a situation that reduces world population by billions over a decade or so through wars, riots, disease, starvation, birth control, etc.
Step four: Form a world government with the wealthy elite at the top and the serfs at the bottom with no middle class.
End of game. Atlantis for the winners, Dante’s hell for the losers.

No more than 1 person in 100 understands what “money” is or where it comes from. It’s why it is being abused by the government.
