Also, he was sitting in the crosswalk, not behind the white line, and so deserved to get crushed.

Enforcement of traffic laws is almost non-existent. Driver’s examinations are a joke. I needed to take a medical exam to get my driver’s licence to see if I was fit to drive. The doctor’s exam consisted of being asked if I ever had seizures and he checked to see if I was breathing. Total cost $5.

One of the questions on the written test — Is it OK to drive a tank on city streets?

At a red light, all the motorcycles behind you weave their way around all the cars to be at the front so when the light turns green they can go first. Many don’t wait for the light to turn green. If it is clear, they go. Too much traffic, no problem, drive your motorcycle down the sidewalk.

No place to park while you pick up a few things at the 7-11, no problem, double park. All that is important is what is convenient to you.

Cars and motorcycles zipping out of lanes and driveways into traffic often don’t even bother looking to see if it is clear.

You don’t like the 120 kph (75 mph) highway speed limit, then go as fast as you want. The fine on the rare occasion you get caught is $6 which usually goes into the cop’s pocket. I call it just another toll.

Overturned vehicles and splattered motorcyclists are so common that I don’t even think about them anymore.

One does need to get used to the driving over here and learns to expect the unexpected. I have never driven a motorcycle and prefer the comfort and size of a SUV on the highway.

Once again you prove that you are not a doctor.

If you think this is bad, come to Manila…lol. I take a taxi everywhere and do not own a car. My first taxi ride from the airport made me look away from where we were going. I think they grease the sides of vehicles there, they get so close. Two lanes each way until traffic going one way gets too heavy, then it changes to 3 lanes for traffic going and 1 for traffic coming by moving into the oncoming lane and all traffic behind you moves over behind you. Or it may be 3 lanes of traffic in two painted lanes or… And motor cycles are everywhere like ants.

For the record, the nearly squashed two-wheeler was on a scooter, not a real motorcycle. Also, in cross fire, I mean cross walk. What do you expect. I do have a mild case of “connex envy”, though. Shame to waste a perfectly good bunker.
