Well said and a great point. How many laws did we enact last year? Over 30k? Creating criminals is what I call it.

Not only are we getting hammered with new taxes from all sides, but as JJ3 says we are also being inundated with thousands of new “laws” and “regulations”. Why? So that at any given time one most likely will be breaking some kind of law, known or unknown, and can be held accountable in one way or another to TPTB. Just more “social control” from our tyrannical govt.

There was a book published several years ago titled “Three Laws A Day” which said that evryone breaks three laws per day . I bet if the book were written today it would be ” Five Laws A Day ” .

“Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against… We’re after power and we mean it… There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.” -Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

@beast: Your quote is as good as the subject’s quote… Only Ayn Rand took a lot longer to say the same thing..

  7. Dorkus Maximus says:

The best part is that people are “presumed” to know what the law requires of them. I.E. – ignorance is not a defense.

the most educated lawyer on the planet doesn’t know 1% of federal law (if you include federal regulations – which have the force and effect of law – he doesn’t know .001% of the law)

You can be sent to jail for violating laws no reasonable person could be aware of.

Can anyone argue this isn’t tyranny? I’d like to hear it.

    Another misquote :

“Ignorance of the law is no excuse”…this is what many in power or perhaps even laymen quote .

The actually quote is “Ignorance of the law that a reasonable man would understand is no excuse” to best of my memory .

It was based on the assumption that most laws were malum in se, that a person of normal moral sense wouldn’t need to read the law to know a particular violation was something they shouldn’t be doing, because the law prohibited moral wrongs.
