As the captured MSM and the Wall Street Shysters proclaim happy days are here again because the 1% are getting ever richer from the $85 billion per month Bernanke stock market ramp, the average American is getting fucked again. The MSM is not talking too much about the fact that oil prices have surged from $84 in November to $98 today during the lowest consumption portion of the year. This is a 16% increase in under three months. The price of oil is now higher than it was last January. Oil prices tend to have an impact on gas prices. Gas prices are up 4% in the last month and they are going higher. And this has happened when Middle East tensions are relatively low. So when is that North Dakota shale oil effect going to kick in?
The fact is that the Wall Street crowd are celebrating, while the masses continue to get screwed with higher gas prices, higher food prices, and lower wages. Sounds like a recovery to me. Party on Garth!!!

This morning, oil is zinging upward to $114.40 and gasoline at the depot level is about to break through $3.00 a gallon – meaning retail gas will be running $3.65 to $3.85 a gallon depending on how much state tax is nailed on top of it.
Here in central Florida, our average is: depot price + $0.65 cents or so for a pump price which is better than a lot of places.
Remember what happened the last time retail gas hit $4.00 a gallon? Everything screeched to a halt. I await a second trip through retail $4.00 a gallon long before Summer driving season gets here along with much screaming, political bullshit and threats of (1973) (shhhhhh!) price controls and if TPTB are really stupid (and the bastards get dumber by the day) we might get —— rationing.
I bought a Subway Club sandwich the other day. Less than a year ago I paid $4.99. I paid $7.00 last week and it will be the last Subway I ever buy at those prices. (It’s to the point that I can pick up the makings and do it myself cheaper and better.)
Went to our local mall yesterday to pick up a pair of shoelaces at one of the shoe stores. To my amazement, instead of five shoe stores (as there were 6 months ago – and that tells you how often I get to the mall!) there were only two, the other three had shut the doors along with 40% of all the other stores there (I counted, getting in my morning walk in at the same time).
Looks like something like this is crawling up the pike….

Oh, and by the way… 30 year Treasuries are yielding 3.21 as I type. Going short 10 or 30 year Treasuries via TBX or TBF might be a good thing to do. Expect volatility as the Fed’s will try almost anything and everything to hold them down – and they will lose. But it likely will be a bumpy ride to the best trade of the next few years..
There’s an old saying, ‘Never fight the Fed!”. This time is different as the Fed is trapped and the excess credit/debt will unwind despite their most horrendous tactics. Gold, silver and short Treasuries (or any other long term bonds for that matter) is the only way to go.

You make a special trip to buy shoelaces? May I recommend a book called “The Purpose Driven Life”.

@CahuitabeachBum: Sorry, no special trip. It was on the way to Lowe’s and I had a legal-trip-long-list of stuff to get there.. I’m happy to report that Home Depot and Lowes are doing well as more and more people seem to be “doing it themselves” these days..
I’ve read The Purpose Driven Life (an ungodly (pun intended) number of years ago!) and never bought into it. Lots of religious types did though.

What Obamacare did for me
I thought it would be great, free health insurance, then I got a job. Boss says 28 hours a week is all they are offering now because over 30 requires insurance. Great, 30% pay cut right off the bat. But it gets better. My 28 hour week gives me about $18,000 a year which is too much for any government insurance. So now by law I have to buy my own ($5000) or pay a fine. I’m fucked and every year the fine goes up. So what I thought was a sweet deal turned into an ass fucking. Thanks Obama, I wonder how many people like me turn 27 and find out you screwed us?

Flash,
Nice post on Obamacare. Only 84% of doctors are now planning to retire or get out of medicine ASAP, so the guy won’t be able to find a doctor.
As has been posted here over and over, unless you’re making more than $36,000 per year, it is much better to be on welfare or disability. This explains why more people are getting disability than getting jobs. Makes sense to me, and you don’t ever have to work a day in your life again.
People are just starting to wake up to the fact of Obamacare taxes and fines, the payroll tax increase, and massive increases in state and local taxes. Many cities sales tax is rapidly approaching 10%. There is no end to this problem.
