Sad anniversary, that led to the greatest song in American rock and roll history.
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

Buddy’s best song. The record store in town ran out of its supply of 45s of this song. I had to wait until the second order came in to buy it.

I remember the older kids in my extended family listening to Buddy Holly on 45rpm records when I was just a toddler, really. It wasn’t until the McLean American Pie album came out when I was in high school that I really paid attention to his story, read about the plane crash, etc.
I didn’t like the American Pie album the first time I heard it. At the time it was radio pop music, and I was deeply into the blues by then. Eventually it it did grow on me. “Vincent” has remained a favorite over the years.
I really like the story Garrison Keillor tells about that day…apparently it isn’t on youtube, but you can download it if you really look around for it. It’s one of his tales of Lake Wobegon, entitled “Buddy Holly and the Pharoahs of Rhythm.”
My personal bucket list includes learning to play 100 of my favorite songs on the guitar. One of them that I can almost play is:

There was another Texas boy who, like Buddy Holly, was born in rural Texas in 1936 and was by far the better singer and, perhaps, the greatest American rock n roll songsmith, Roy Orbison. Two bad those two guys never hooked up in Lubbock in the fifties. What a band they would have been.

I do like that song Vincent, as I mentioned above. Some days I feel like it should be on my “to learn” list. I’ve practiced it.
Now every day I think of more boomer love songs, and it’s your fault.
This morning I woke up with this one in my head. I am no longer screening them for extreme worthiness.
