This the fault of the gun carrier. ALWAYS notify the officer that you have a concealed carry permit (CCP) and hand it over with your driver’s license when stopped. The guy should have never exited his vehicle either. Sure, the cop over-reached in this incident, and the “case” was properly dropped, but the whole thing would have been prevented if he had used his head, stayed in the van, and offered his CCP with his driver’s license when the officer approached.

How a cop can get away with that shit is beyond me. That he was arrested is appalling. Sure, I can see how the cop went ballistic upon seeing the gun, out of a preponderance of caution, but after it was clear he was licensed to carry, how on earth could he then be arrested? An apology – “sorry about that, sir, but I have a dangerous job and I hope you understand” – would probably have sufficed.

I HATE cops. I hope that guy sues the shit out of them.

I agree with Rick, if you’ve got a gun on you you had better let the cop know or you might get more than a pair of handcuffs. Cops don’t like you exiting the vehicle either unless they ask you too. I got berated for doing that even though I was driving a city vehicle and had my employee ID hanging around my neck. They don’t know if you are getting out to fight, run or what.

In their line of work they may get a reprimand for being too aggressive but they could get killed if they are too relaxed. They operate under the “I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6″ standard too.

The guy should have never had his face this close to the officer’s fists.
Sure, the cop over-reached in this incident, and the face pummeling was deserved , but the whole thing would have been prevented if he had shown his FCP , stayed at home , and offered a cash bribe and a box of donuts when the officer approached.

@ Rick – actually, in the handgun safety classes I’ve taken in my state, they advise you NOT provide your concealed permit automatically to the officer in a routine stop as it can be misconstrued as a ‘threat’ to hand it over with your license and registration during a routine stop. You are supposed to immediately hand the cop your concealed permit if you are asked “are you carrying a firearm” or if your vehicle is going to be searched. In other words, you DO NOT make your gun the focus of a traffic stop by handing your concealed permit to the police – you stay only on the subject you’ve been stopped for which is traffic violation. IF they choose to bring up the subject of guns by asking you directly whether you have a firearm or by announcing that they have probable cause to search your vehicle (where they may find your weapon) then and only then do you provide them your permit. First rule of dealing with cops is NEVER volunteer any additional information beyond the minimum required.

@Llpoh – well, in all fairness, the gun owner DID do something totally wrong…. He was not adequately CONCEALING his firearm. Concealed carry has to be completely concealed to be legal. The outline of the gun cannot even ‘print’ through your clothing, and certainly it cannot be flashed in normal action such as putting your wallet in your pocket. In my state open carry is legal, and concealed carry is legal with a permit. What is absolutely NOT legal is semi-concealment. If your firearm’s outline prints through your clothes or you flash your concealed gun during regular movement – you are not legal. Period. So the motorist was an idiot and the cop was an idiot.

Sangell – while it might be prudent to do those things – there is no way in HELL that it is the fault of the law abiding citizen – it is the fucking cop who has broken the law. If cops cannot behave in a law-abiding manner because they are afraid, they need to find another line of work, rather than bullying and abusing and arresting law-abiding members of the public. That they will not do, because fact is cops LOVE to abuse the people they are sworn to serve. That is very often why they became cops to begin with – it offers them the chance to terrorize the public legally.

That he is afraid may be understandable but it is no excuse – what that cop did was bullshit, and he compounded the problem by arresting Mr Law Abiding Citizen.

I hate cops.

@Llpoh – I caught that, but vague language… “brief” and “non-threatening” has a lot of latitude for interpretation. In the context of a traffic stop, perhaps any showing of the gun no matter how brief could be considered threatening to the cop especially if you have chosen to not preemptively provide your concealed permit. The same philosophy applies to this situation though, which is that the motorist brought the subject of his gun into play in this traffic stop by flashing it. People should ALWAYS follow the rule of providing as little information or cause for action to the police as possible. Giving them extra is inviting this type of abuse. If the cop doesn’t ask you about guns, you just DON’T fucking bring the subject up voluntarily either by handing over your permit or flashing your weapon. Don’t give the cops a shred more information than is absolutely necessary.

It was the Sandy Hook conspiracy thread that pissed me off. Bad as this shit government is, the idea that it would MURDER ITS OWN CHILDREN (we have no problem murdering Pakistani kids via drones – just collateral damage) to achieve some agenda (like, gun control) is one of the most idiotic insane things I have ever read. Then I posted a personal story about my time in the USAF Honor Guard, told a story about a funeral, and concluded that each family grieves in its own way. For that I got a shit load of thumbs down, so I decided to take a break from you shit-flinging monkeys.

But it was more than. Things have been building up.

I am just sick and tired of the shit going on in this country … perhaps even of this country itself. A prison state. A cultural hell hole. Ruled by elitists, banksters, corporations which are now people, Generals, and 535 people who don’t give a flying fuck about me, or you.

Nothing I say really matters anyway. Who gives a shit? I don’t even give a shit about what I, myself, have to say anymore. I bore myself reading my posts. I have nothing left to say that I haven’t said a million times before. I’m not funny anymore, my jokes have become stale, routine, and predictable.

I have zero solutions for our problems. So, I actually have nothing useful to say either. All I have left is hate. Hate for the Free Shit Army. Democrats. Republicans. Fat people. Police. The SF 49ers. Purdue Boilermakers. Lawyers. Banks. Chinese products. Kunstler. Beyonce. McShits. Psychiatrists. My ex-wife. Fat fuck traitor Chris Christie. Hate. Hate. Hate. And that just 1% of my list.

I’m sick of it all. So I’m taking an extended break. I actually have completely eliminated watch TV news these past two weeks. Not one second … not even in “the background”. FWIW-AK has one of the most “liberal” gun laws in the country. If you can legally buy a handgun (can pass a NICS background check, whether you have or not), you can carry concealed or open w/o a permit. Never heard of “semi-concealed”, but I doubt it is an issue. Or you can get a CCW permit, if you prefer. But regardless, you are REQUIRED to inform a LEO on first contact, regardless of what that contact is. If you are talking to a cop, trooper, whatever, the first thing you better say is “I need to inform you I am exercising my right to carry (or possess) a firearm”. I know, for a fact, that folks have been prosecuted for failing to do so. That said, I have no idea of the details on FL, and clearly the cop here was a heavy-handed asshole.

When I moved to Indiana back in 1979 I was offered free tickets to see the Hoosiers play in Assembly Hall. Bobby Knight was the coach. I could fucking hear him yelling the “fuck” word about a dozen times. I fucken fell in love with the Hoosiers right that fuckin’ moment.

Purdue, of course, is a hated arch-rival. Not growing up in Indiana I didn’t have such hate. I actually tried to like the Boilermakers. But, then IU hired that piece of shit, Kelvin Sampson, who destroyed the IU program for years (thousands of impermissable phone calls to recruits). Several years in a row of 20+ losses. The Boilmakers would come to the IU websites where I was member and spew forth the most vile and hateful shit imaginable …. for YEARS. That’s why I hate them.

Sweet vindication. Come Monday, IU will be #1 in both polls again. It’s a safe bet, imho, that the Hoosiers will be cutting down the nets for Banner #6, also.

Are you a Boiler fan? If so, I don’t HAVE to hate you. I can make exceptions.

I have had good and bad experiences with cops. The good was when I rolled a ’58 ford pickup off a mountain road due to a patch of black ice in the middle of the night and due to a previous accident, the county cops had parked their vehicle on the road, since there was no shoulder. When I hit the brakes to avoid the cop car, the truck spun, eventually hit the shoulder and we rolled at least a hundred feet down the hillside, taking out a bunch of trees. Lucky for us, the truck had spun 180 degrees so the back end took most of the punishment, nevertheless all the windows were broken we finally came to a stop, drivers side down. The headlights were still on and illuminated the path back to the road. I said to my friend, “Dennis, you alive? He said, yeah, are you?” We had to climb through the broken windshield to get out and as we were climbing up back to the roadside, one of the county sheriffs blurted out, “Hey floyd, they’re alive!”

The cops blamed themselves for this accident given that their car was halfway into the right lane. Although we had weed on us, and a bunch of empty beer cans were clearly littering the side of the hill, they did not question us. Eventually another county cop showed up and they all left to the nearest little town to wake up a tow truck driver. They left us sitting in their cruiser and even showed us how to use the radar gun for our amusement. As we were sitting there, I had a strong desire to light up a joint, but knew that would be pushing our luck. Later when the tow truck driver appeared, with the cops and pulled the truck back to the road, amazingly, it started up. 1958 Ford 3/4 ton pickups were built hell for stout. We had to put a blanket over our laps to protect ourselves from the cold, but we drove that truck back for a few miles to an all night restaurants. The county cops followed us, in part to make sure we were capable of driving this thing, (as in, sober) and in part that it was capable of driving at all. Once at the restaurant, they bought is both breakfast. It was about four in the morning at this point. Afterwards they left us as we drove the remaining 40 miles back home.

I was in college at the time and this occured around 1979. We had planned to drive up to the hot springs and had a few illicit drugs with us, which we shoved into our underpants. Part of the blame goes to the truck. The brakes were not maintained well and that created to the spin. Dennis sold the truck, which after the roll, had dents practically over every inch of its’s body, to a landscaper. It was green. I would occasionally see it during what was left of my college years. We called it the Reptile.

Now for the bad. When I rebuilt my grandfathers 1940 plymouth, in high school, I had the entire front end removed. Once I had it running, I had to drive it with varying amount of throttle, to seat the piston rings, and to make valve adjustments, which on a flathead were pretty difficult to do unless the engine was exposed. I had a friend with me and we had stopped about a mile from my house. This county pig pulled up behind us and asked if we had been driving this car. I lied and said no. He looked at the car and said, “You have no headlights, no fenders and no bumper. If I find you driving this car, I’ll write you up for a ticket of at least $600 (this was in 1974). After he left,we took a roundabout way back to my place, then I took my friend back to his house in my parent’s car. On the way, I spotted this cop sitting nearby. I am pretty sure he was looking for us.
