Obama treats himself to boys’ weekend in Florida

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — President Barack Obama was facing the prospect of rattling around the White House without his family during a long weekend, so he arranged a golf outing with some buddies.
In Florida.
He high-tailed it south after a speech Friday in Chicago on building a stronger middle class and he won’t return to Washington until Monday, the Presidents Day federal holiday.
Obama flew into the airport in West Palm Beach and was driven for nearly an hour to coastal Palm City and behind the gates of the Floridian Yacht and Golf Club, the resort that will be his home away from home for the weekend.
It’s a weekend with the boys, presidential style.
Eyebrows might have been raised at the thought of the president, any president, skipping out of Washington, without his family, for some “me time” hundreds of miles away from the Oval Office. First lady Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha are on an annual midwinter ski vacation out West.
As it turns out, a president going on vacation alone isn’t all that uncommon.
And, Obama has gone off on his own in the past, too.
During the weekend, the avid first golfer was expected to take full advantage of the club’s private, 18-hole course, which opened in 1996 and is owned by Jim Crane, a Houston businessman who also owns Major League Baseball’s Astros, according to golfnow.com.
“A quiet weekend of golf,” said White House spokesman Josh Earnest.
The president was not expected to leave the private club, which fronts the St. Lucie River, until he heads back to Washington.
Members of the club and their guests have access to one of eight cottages, a 68-slip deep water marina, the club’s 61-foot Viking yacht, a 24-foot Hurricane Deck Boat and the club’s private helicopter service with two on-site helipads.
The White House arranged for the reporters who travel with the president to stay at a hotel in Port St. Lucie, about a 20-minute drive away from Palm City. They were not expected to see the president again until it’s time for the return trip home.
Obama’s longtime friend from Chicago, Eric Whitaker, joined him aboard Air Force One for the trip from Chicago to Florida. The two have played golf together in the past. Another regular member of Obama’s golf foursomes is White House trip director Marvin Nicholson, who also traveled with the president on Friday.
America’s presidents have been taking solo vacations for decades, according to Larry Knutson, a former White House reporter for The Associated Press who wrote a book about presidents and their vacations.
Although Bess and Margaret Truman visited him there just a couple of times, President Harry Truman vacationed most often by himself in tropical Key West, Fla. Many aides, all men, accompanied him.
Truman enjoyed the male companionship and his wife may have stayed away out of a desire to not interrupt his cherished late afternoon and evening games of poker. Truman vacationed in Key West 11 times between November 1946 and March 1952; his wife and daughter joined him for the first time in November 1948, after his surprise victory in that year’s election campaign.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt often visited his cottage at Warm Springs, Ga., alone; wife, Eleanor, didn’t much care for the place or the Southern atmosphere. Roosevelt was at Warm Springs, on his own, when he died in April 1945.
He also often traveled solo to his home in Hyde Park, N.Y., during World War II. The first lady often did not accompany Roosevelt on his wartime visits to Shangri-La, which is now the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland, or when he traveled on the presidential yacht or on Navy warships.
In 1997, President Bill Clinton was in Florida for fundraising and to play in a golf tournament when he stumbled on steps at the home of golf pro Greg Norman and needed surgery to repair a torn tendon in his right knee. He was treated at a hospital in West Palm Beach before being flown to Washington for the operation.
Obama’s stay at the Floridian isn’t his first vacation without his wife and daughters.
In 2010, Obama was left alone in Washington as his 49th birthday approached. The first lady had taken Sasha with her to Spain for a vacation with friends, and Malia was away at camp.
Rather than stay in the White House by himself, he fled, with family dog Bo, home to Chicago for an intimate dinner with friends there that included Oprah Winfrey, Whitaker and White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, a fellow Chicagoan.

GOP’s Path Back to Power Seen in Nominating Obama in 2016
Ever since the total annihilation of the Republican Party in the 2012 elections, GOP insiders and overpaid consultants have been racking their tiny brains trying to find the light at the end of the tunnel at the bottom of the abyss. According to media experts, the destruction of the Stupid Party last November was so nearly total and complete, there is little hope left for them save for begging for scraps from the triumphant socialist table.
“We need a way to be relevant in the Age of Obama the Magnificent”, moaned chastised and now discredited former evil genius Karl Rove. “No thanks to the Tea Party, who made us what we are today, nothing more than an elephant’s rump party. Damn them and their lunatic fringe ideas, such as fiscal sanity!”
“Perhaps, if we are very contrite, the Democrats will let us run a few sewerage authorities here and there”, pleaded Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell as he groveled outside Majority Leader Harry Reid’s office, hoping to empty the Nevada senator’s trash cans in return for a few minutes with him.
“I am just happy Nancy Pelosi let me be House Speaker a while longer because she is too busy celebrating the triumph of progressivism on her publicly-owned personal 757 with unlimited liquor supply”, wept Rep. John Bohner (R-Nowhere). Mr. Bohner also expressed his gratitude to President Obama for exempting the temporary Speaker’s favorite tanning salon from total destruction by the PPACA.

Since the wipeout, wise and powerful intellects at legitimate media bastions such as the NY Times and MSNBC have taken pity on the poor GOP fools’ plight and sought to help them out with some much-needed advice, lest the pitiful beggars turn up at the pundits’ favorite bistros whining for spare change.
“They must give up their extremism and moderate”, offered one NY Times columnist, his skull throbbing with progressive brainpower. “That means moderating their immigration policy to let in every undocumented Democrat that shows up in the back of a van in Texas and then sending the van back for MORE. That means moderating on civil rights – instead of Voter ID, give multiple votes to voters with NO ID. That means moderating their stance on taxes and spending – tax and spend until the non-Democrat one-percenters cry ‘Uncle Oyango!’”
“If they moderate their stances as I’ve suggested, they can possibly broaden their appeal and maybe they can win a few sewerage authority elections. But I doubt it.”
Others put the Republican problem in starker terms: “They are just a party of white people” agreed noted white people at both the New Republic and MSNBC.
However, one astute political observer believes he has the answer, an idea that will bring the GOP back to popularity and power as well: Nominate Barack Obama as their 2016 Presidential candidate!
“It’s foolproof”, the man exclaimed. “Obama already has everything they lack – hipness, coolness, social media outreach, modern communications expertise, a huge database of supporters, a crackerjack campaign organization and an unlimited supply of deep-pocketed donors. It would take them decades to match any one of those. The failure of Romney’s ORCA last fall shows how hopelessly behind they are.”
“What’s more, the media love Mr. Obama. That’s worth 10 points in and of itself. They hate, absolutely hate every single one of the GOP candidates – black, white, green or whatever – but they love Barack Obama. Republicans could never hope to close the gap working against such a cultural disadvantage but with Obama as their standard bearer… he’s someone the MSM has already heaped approval on for eight years. They won’t be able to turn against him, even if he runs as a Republican. The public is stupid but not that stupid. The media are stupid but they’re smart enough to know the public is not that stupid.”
What about the GOP’s much-ballyhooed rising stars like Rubio and Cruz?
“Forget ‘em”, waved the expert. “They’re Tea Partiers, they haven’t got a chance. The Tea Party is so 2010. Conservatism is stuck in the 20th centry. Haven’t you been listening to the media? Republicans have got to MODERATE their stances to get back in the game and Obama is the epitome of moderation. Even GOP stalwarts like Mike Bloomberg and Jon Huntsman say so.”
What about the voters? Don’t they deserve a choice between competing visions for America?
“Choice is fine in theory but those on the side not chosen have bills to pay and cronies to reward as well. They can’t do that unless they control the spoils system – what the low information types call ‘the government’.”
“It’s fine to be for something, for principles”, he continued, “but you can’t eat principles at a five star restaurant. It all comes down to this: do you want to do the right thing or do you want TO WIN????”
Conceding that point, there is still one problem: by 2016, Obama will have already served two terms and according to the Constitution, he will no longer be eligible to serve another.
“After the last eight years, do you really think anybody gives a sh*t about the Constitution any more? Get real.”

Obama Hires Golf Pro, Offers Him Lessons in New Stimulus
In a commendable example of his personal involvement in the stimulation and recovery of the USSA economy from years of mismanagement by the reactionary G. G. Bush, Party Chairman and President Comrade Barack Barackovich Obama has ordered the funding of a new education program designed to stimulate the American golf industry.
Officials in the White Fortress have stated that the new program is designed to boost employment in the industry and send a sign to all Party officials that the President expects their full participation in mandatory golf activities sponsored by the Party.
Comrade Obama, who has never lost a round of golf or any sport he has participated in, brought in a specialist in golfing as a way to share his enthusiasm and energy with the workers and peasants laboring throughout the USSA on golf courses, elevating their public image as serfs to the proper dignity of equal members of the Proletariat.
The President then gave the instructor several lessons and coached him on his swing before returning him to his assigned golf course in Florida.
Throughout history, the bourgeoisie have used golf as a means of oppressing the Masses, forcing citizens to work for menial wages that could not help them support their many children and disabled relatives. The President ordered that the golf instructor be paid $1000 per hour, showing that he expects all golf course managers to increase wages to livable standards as part of their gradual collectivization under the President’s newly-proposed Compulsory Wage Table to be drawn up by the Department of Mandatory Labor.
Under the program mentioned during Comrade Barack Barackovich’s State of the Socialist Union Address, which has been acclaimed as one of the greatest speeches ever recorded in human history, the State will increase minimum wages over time until all citizens will receive the exact same share of the Collective Wealth of the USSA, rather than the imbalanced means we now have.
Until this equity is achieved, Party officials are encouraged to engage in personal collectivization of luxury activities on behalf of the Proletariat, such as we see with President Obama’s retention of a $1000 per hour golf instructor from one of the most magnificent golf courses in the USSA. Under the President’s new program, Party officials in good standing must report weekly to the nearest golf range for a mandatory nine rounds of golf underwritten through their normal budgets plus special contributions from Party supporters.
Comrades, encourage Party officials to engage in recreational activities for the sake of the People! Agitate for the new $1000 per hour minimum wage!

The Myth of Nero fiddling away as Rome burned is actually considered the greatest political spin story in the history of the world.
It is fairly well documented that Nero (who was in fact infamous for sneaking out pretending to be a commoner and acting in plays) actually spent most of that tragedy physically pulling people from burning buildings, risking his life time and time again to save lives.
As an American we owe a very small part of ourselves to the Roman Empire. More than we owe this president anyway…
I hope in the future that more fitting jabs will be used.
