In our age there is no such thing as ‘keeping out of politics.’ All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia.

Eddie says:
Definitely the most monumental clusterfuck of all time.
I cannot put all the blame for this on Obama. Healthcare is a problem. The real message here is that neither he nor anybody else can fix it.
Why? Two main reasons, imho.
1. Special interests (insurance companies) have been able to shape every aspect of healthcare legislation, and indeed have been able to completely control how the majority of Americans THINK about healthcare. Game, set, match.
2. Even if we could cut out the vampire ticks in the insurance industry, we have to get real about what is affordable and what’s just plain stupid. You can’t spend a million dollars on every old person in their last year of life. Just can’t, sorry. Not enough money in the world.

I don’t pretend to understand the details of what is in the so-called Affordable Care Act. I doubt anyone does. There is one major problem though that seems obvious enough. Obamacare does not create a single new hospital bed, doctor , physical therapist, nurse or hospital orderly yet somehow the existing healthcare system is expected to absorb some 30 million new customers many of whom, because they have not had health insurance, will have quite a backlog of medical issues the system will suddenly be expected to treat.

Steve Hogan says:
The only effective way to rein in health care costs is to make the health care consumer fully liable and fully aware of the actual costs. It also wouldn’t hurt to permit actual competition between providers. Allow the profit motive to exist and we’ll once again see improved quality and lower prices.
But no. We’re going to get Obamacare, with its arrogant edicts, gigantic bureaucracies, shortages, waiting periods, and needless suffering.

You fail to recognize…1. Most hospitals have big parking lots.
2. Your car has a back seat to lie down on.
3. Rollerskates exist.
4. Nurse practictioners can rollerskate.
5. These nurse practioners used to work for Sonic.
6. VIOLA! (sic) You get medical care and food, curbside.
7. And, a free carwash with every laparoscopic surgery and prostate exam.

IndenturedServant says:
Approximately 30 MILLION people were added to the healthcare system under Obamacare. Zero effort was made to add new doctors to the system. Zero effort was made to add new nurses to the system. Zero effort was made to add new medical techs to the system. Zero effort was made to build new hospitals. Zero effort was made to add new clinics.
Some might argue that Obamacare has inspired many in the medical profession to get out of the profession.
For most of us alive today, the quantity and quality of medical care will be dropping significantly. If you are planning any kind of elective surgery to fix a bum knee, bad shoulder or a bad ankle like me, my advice is to get that shit done sooner rather than later if you want timely and responsible care. I would guess that a few years down the road you might actually be told WHO your doctor is going to be as opposed to you deciding who that doctor will be. You might be putting something off because you can get 5-6 more years out of it but you might find 5-6 years from now that the wait time for your *appointed* doctor is an additional 5-6 years. My personal physician is not the slightest bit optimistic about the situation.

A regular here posted something about making healthcare non profit and just charging a small percent over to cover certain things sounded like the best idea ive heard of. Maybe AWD?

AWD says:
Yea, my idea.
Health Insurance companies, hospitals, pharmaceuticals limited to 6% overhead and administrative costs; i.e., “not for profit”. Right now they’re sucking 30%-50% out in profit and acquisitions (a crime). They keep raising premiums and prices even though their payout keeps falling.
United Healthcare has 70,000 employees, 69,000 of which are there to figure out ways not to pay claims and ways to keep profits. They have PR companies running glitzy ads, while people with health insurance go bankrupt from medical bills. And they’re all making billions in profit off Medicare. But like every other corporatocracy, they own the politicians, who keep the gravy train rolling.
Obamacare, however, will wipe out most of the healthcare system and everything related to it. You’ll be begging for a test or a procedure, and will be put on a government waiting list for months in hopes you just die first.
