Well it happened. It’s March 1. The DEVASTATING, HORRIFIC, ECONOMY DESTROYING SPENDING REDUCTIONS HAVE ARRIVED!!!!

Run for the hills.

The ultra-liberals and the neo-cons are up in arms. The MSM and liberal cartoonists have been shreiking bloody murder for weeks. There will be no teachers, policemen, firemen, food inspectors, or Pentagon paper pushers left. The horror. Obama has described these dreadful spending slowdowns as the end of the world as we know it.

I woke up this morning expecting school to be cancelled for my kids. I expected reports of the Iranian Navy sailing up the Potomac and shelling the capital. The Chinese must be massing their troops to take advantage of the fact that we still spend more on our war machine than the rest of the world combined.

But a funny thing happened. My day is proceeding just like every other day. Traffic was heavy. I’m going to work a full day. Everyone else in the country is experiencing the same thing. Sequestration is a piss in the fucking ocean of debt. It will not impact your daily life one iota. Will a few thousand government drones be laid off? I sure hope so. Will the government run less efficiently because of the layoffs? NO. It will run more efficiently. The savings from withdrawing our troops from Germany and Japan would cover the $50 billion in the blink of an eye.

The horrible spending reductions in 2013 will reduce government spending from $10.41 billion per day to $10.27 billion per day. How will the country survive? For some REAL perspective, the Federal government was spending $7.4 billion per day in 2007. Has your life been improved one iota because the Federal government is spending an extra $3 billion per day of YOUR money? I didn’t think so.

By calling the bluff of Obama, the ultra-libs and the neo-con war mongers, we will see that it is all bluster and bullshit. The ruling oligarchs might crash the stock market to scare the masses, but they probably won’t. The masses don’t own the stocks. The rich pricks who benefit from massive government spending own most of the stocks.

The fear mongerers are being revealed as liars and lovers of spending your money on the things they want.

I sure hope we can make it through the day before the country explodes in hellfire.

That says it all. If the MSM would explain it in these terms people might just get a clearer picture. The local news radio station here in Boston has spent the entire week blaring the countdown to the sequestration. This morning they finally admitted that we would not see any effects foe months, but it sure sounded like a national emergency up until yesteray. I have always said that if you let go half of the government they only people that would notice are the people who hold there mortgages. That may not be entirely accurate, but it is pretty much how I feel.
    Bob.

    Media Hype Over Sequester Cuts

President Obama is playing the media like a fiddle (more accurately like the fools they are). Countless mainstream media articles talk about the devastation that is sure to follow if the sequester cuts take place. Obama has even hyped this up with threats of cuts on vaccinations for children.

Here is one example of the hype: New crisis looms as budget cuts hit US on Friday.

Billions of dollars in harsh budget cuts are hitting the U.S. government on Friday, and officials are conceding that last-minute moves by both Democrats and Republicans in Congress to soften the blow are doomed.

Economists and lawmakers alike agree that the cuts, the potential shutdown and the country’s series of fiscal crises overall are hurting the country’s shaky comeback from the Great Recession, and the effects will be felt around the world. Both political parties have said the cuts — of 5 percent to domestic agencies and 8 percent to the military— could inflict major damage to government programs and the economy at large.

Obama, speaking to a group of business executives Wednesday night, said the cuts would be a “tumble downward” for the economy, though he acknowledged it could takes weeks before many Americans feel the full impact of the budget shrinking.

Domestic agencies would see their budgets frozen almost exactly as they are, which would mean no money for new initiatives such as cybersecurity or for routine increases for programs such as low-income housing.

“We’re not going to do that,” said Sen. Tom Harkin, a Democrat.
    Budget Freeze Oh My!

My friend Tim Wallace pinged me today with a few thoughts. …

    Hi Mish

In 2006 the Federal spending was $2.6 trillion. In 2008 the budget had gone up to $2.9 trillion, an increase of “only” 12.2% in two years. Then, the “financial crisis” hit and a “one time” increase in the budget was put in place to bail out all the political cronies.

That “one time” increase ballooned the budget to $3.5 trillion, an increase of 18% over 2008, but an increase of 32.6% over 2006!

So, what happened to this “one time” increase? Did it go away the next year? Of course not!

Federal spending has remained above $3.5 trillion since, and is even up again to about $3.6 trillion. This is 33% more than 6 years ago.

Suppose inflation was the basis for budget increases. Then let’s use the joke of a 2% a year inflation rate that Bernanke claims. On that basis, spending based on 2000′s numbers would be $2.3 trillion! If you double the rate of inflation to 4% a year since 2000, spending would be $2.9 trillion ($600 billion less – each year than the current budget).

Clearly the problem is spending yet allegedly mere decrease of $85 billion (most of it back-loaded) is too much for Obama and Bernanke.

    Tim
This media hype over sequestration is ridiculous.

Preparedness 101: Government Drone Zombie Apocalypse

Some of the supplies for your emergency kit
    Better Safe than Sorry

So what do you need to do before zombies…or hurricanes or pandemics for example, actually happen? First of all, you should have an emergency kit in your house. This includes things like water, food, and other supplies to get you through the first couple of days before you can locate a zombie-free refugee camp (or in the event of a natural disaster, it will buy you some time until you are able to make your way to an evacuation shelter or utility lines are restored). Below are a few items you should include in your kit, for a full list visit the CDC Emergency page.
    • Water (1 gallon per person per day)
    • Food (stock up on non-perishable items that you eat regularly)
    • Medications (this includes prescription and non-prescription meds)
    • Tools and Supplies (utility knife, duct tape, battery powered radio, etc.)
    • Sanitation and Hygiene (household bleach, soap, towels, etc.)
    • Clothing and Bedding (a change of clothes for each family member and blankets)
    • Important documents (copies of your driver’s license, passport, and birth certificate to name a few)
    • First Aid supplies (although you’re a goner if a zombie bites you, you can use these supplies to treat basic cuts and lacerations that you might get during a tornado or hurricane)

Once you’ve made your emergency kit, you should sit down with your family and come up with an emergency plan. This includes where you would go and who you would call if zombies started appearing outside your door step. You can also implement this plan if there is a flood, earthquake, or other emergency.

Family members meeting by their mailbox. You should pick two meeting places, one close to your home and farther away

    1. Identify the types of emergencies that are possible in your area. Besides a zombie apocalypse, this may include floods, tornadoes, or earthquakes. If you are unsure contact your local Red Cross chapter for more information.

    2. Pick a meeting place for your family to regroup in case zombies invade your home…or your town evacuates because of a hurricane. Pick one place right outside your home for sudden emergencies and one place outside of your neighborhood in case you are unable to return home right away.

    3. Identify your emergency contacts. Make a list of local contacts like the police, fire department, and your local zombie response team. Also identify an out-of-state contact that you can call during an emergency to let the rest of your family know you are ok.

    4. Plan your evacuation route. When zombies are hungry they won’t stop until they get food (i.e., brains), which means you need to get out of town fast! Plan where you would go and multiple routes you would take ahead of time so that the flesh eaters don’t have a chance! This is also helpful when natural disasters strike and you have to take shelter

Obama’s Sequester Math: $300 Billion In New Revenues Called ‘Spending Cuts’

Budget: When President Obama put out his “balanced” plan to avoid the automatic sequester cuts, no one noticed. Which is probably just as well for Obama, given how embarrassingly unbalanced it is.

Last week, New York Times columnist David Brooks wrote about how Obama “hasn’t actually come up with a proposal to avert sequestration, let alone one that is politically plausible.”

Turns out, Obama did have one, although Brooks can be excused for not knowing it, since the administration hasn’t exactly been promoting this so-called plan.

That, too, is understandable, since it isn’t a plan at all, just a list of numbers with little to back them up.

There are no details, for example, about the $200 billion in cuts to defense and domestic discretionary programs, other than that Obama wants them split evenly.

And while he offers $400 billion in “health savings,” 30% are lumped in a bucket labeled “other.”

Worse, Obama’s “balanced” plan actually counts hundreds of billions of new revenues from taxes, fees and rebates as “spending reductions.” Examples:

    • His plan to “strengthen” unemployment insurance is labeled as a cut, but it’s really a $50 billion tax hike.

    • The $35 billion from the federal worker retirement programs involves boosting worker contributions.

    • Most of the $35 billion in Medicare savings comes from charging wealthy seniors more.

    • The $140 billion in “reduced payments to drug companies” are in fact rebates Obama wants drugmakers to pay Uncle Sam for selling drugs to poor seniors.

    • Then there’s the $45 billion in spectrum fees and asset sales that Obama lists as spending reductions.

Viewed correctly, it turns out that more than $300 billion — about a third — of Obama’s proposed “spending cuts” are actually revenue increases.

As a result, instead of $1.2 trillion in spending cuts called for by the sequester over the next decade, Obama would add more than $1 trillion in revenues, while cutting outlays only about $600 billion. And much of those aren’t real cuts, but tiny reductions in projected spending growth over the next decade.

And in the end, his plan, such as it is, will do nothing to forestall the nation’s oncoming debt crisis.

After four years, Obama’s unseriousness as a president continues to surprise us.

    There Goes The Sequester

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 03/01/2013 15:37 -0500

Today is the day when, if one listens to Obama whose idea it was in the first place, an unprecedented $85 billion spending cuts will be sequestered, unleashing famine, pestilence, the apocalypse and grizzly bears (as all park rangers will be dead from starvation). Which is why we applaud the administration’s desire to preempt this tragic for the nation outcome, by issuing, in one day alone: February 28, $80 billion in Treasurys sending debt to (obviously) what is a new all time high $16,687,289,180,215.37.

In other words, the entire apocalyptic impact of the sequester for 2013 was offset by one day’s debt issuance.

Oh, and we didn’t label this post Friday humor because it rightfully falls under the Friday grotesque, surreal tragedy category.

The immigrants who were released still eventually face deportation and are required to appear for upcoming court hearings. But they are no longer confined in immigration jails, where advocacy experts say they cost about $164 per day per person. Immigrants who are granted supervised release — with conditions that can include mandatory check-ins, home visits and GPS devices — cost the government from 30 cents to $14 a day, according to the National Immigration Forum, a group that advocates on behalf of immigrants.
