Via ZeroHedge

Bacon lovers might be in for a sizzling surprise as pork supplies in cold storage tumble to an 11-year low as prices rise due to declining hog herds.

The latest United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) pork data in cold storage as of Dec. 1 was approximately 399 million pounds, a drop of 4.1% from a year ago and now at the lowest point since 2010.

Bacon Is Bad For Your Mental Health, Say Researchers

Screw those researchers. Bacon makes me happy.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Processed meats like bacon and hot dogs are bad for your mental health, say researchers.

According to researchers at Johns Hopkins, people who eat meats cured with nitrates are three times more likely to experience a manic episode.

Apparently, added nitrates are associated with hyperactivity and insomnia.

Researchers said experiments in rats showed mania-like hyperactivity after just a few weeks on diets with added nitrates.

They say this new study adds to evidence that certain diets and potentially the amounts and types of bacteria in the gut may contribute to mania and other disorders that affect the brain.

Bacon

Guest Post by Robert Bronsdon (Hollywood Rob)

You might think that I am using this title to get comments, but that is not the case.  Neither is it the case that this is a story simply about bacon; although bacon figures into it in a significant way.  This is a story about taking back our country and our way of life, and, of course, our bacon.

For over a year I have been on a quest to first find out what has happened to bacon in California, and then, given that I don’t like the new bacon, find a way to get bacon made the old fashion way.  What I have found is that there are two ways of preparing bacon.  Let’s refer to Wikipedia:

Bacon is cured through either a process of injecting with or soaking in brine, known as wet curing, or using plain salt, known as dry curing.  Bacon brine has added curing ingredients, most notably sodium nitrite or, less often, potassium nitrate (saltpeter), which speed the curing and stabilize color. Fresh bacon may then be dried for weeks or months in cold air, or it may be smoked of boiled.

A NO THUMBS DOWN THREAD. BACON!!!

Yesterday’s QOTD asked if it’s possible to post an article that will get a minimum of 25 comments AND no thumbs down.

I am simply trying to promote an atmosphere of LOVE, peace, joy, harmony, and nice words.  (Especially considering yesterday’s shitfest between Llpoh and RiNS. Yikes!!)

I asked this community of Righteous Ones to submit suggestions, and the one with the most thumbs up would get the nod.

Well, you sonsabitches selected a RIDICULOUS picture of a dog and bacon, submitted by our own illustrious Hardscrabble Farmer.

FBI offers $5,000 reward after bacon found at Vegas mosque

By SALLY HO
Associated Press

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The FBI is offering a $5,000 reward for information that helps them find the person who put raw bacon on the door handles of a Las Vegas mosque.

The FBI said in a statement Wednesday that agents are trying to find the man seen in a surveillance video putting the meat on the entrances of the Masjid-e-Tawheed mosque. Authorities call it a desecration of the Islamic worship center.

The Quran, the holy book of Islam, prohibits Muslims from eating pork, and pigs have been used to taunt or offend Muslims.

Both the FBI and Las Vegas police say they’re investigating the case as a possible hate crime.

Las Vegas police spokesman Larry Hadfield said the bacon was wrapped on the door knobs, and was also found on the ground and fences.

Officials at the mosque couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

The FBI said the incident happened about 3:15 a.m. Dec. 27. The culprit is described as a white man wearing a dark blue hat, jacket and black-framed glasses. He had black or dark brown hair with long, thin sideburns.

The site west of the Las Vegas Strip wasn’t damaged, and no one was hurt. The mosque was empty at the time, and the case was reported by members who came to worship later that morning.

Several threatening incidents at mosques have been reported in recent weeks. A Molotov cocktail went off at an Islamic center in Tracy, California, days ago, and a severed pig’s head was found outside a Philadelphia worship site earlier this month.

ONE OF MANY THINGS I’M THANKFUL FOR

PORK

Once turned into bacon or ham, pork must be the equivalent of Heaven on Earth. Bacon is one of the few foods where even if it’s bad, it’s still better than none at all. What other food can you say that about? About 5 or 6 years ago I grew weary of grocery store bacon. I knew that there had to be something better than purely profit driven, mass produced, “better food through chemistry” bacon.

I tried about a dozen mail order bacon brands that all had great reviews and faithful devotees. Some were great and some were no better or even worse than grocery store bacon. The last one I tried was made by Allan Benton. You could smell it through the shipping box even though the bacon was vacuum packed in plastic within.

Before it even went into the pan I wanted to eat it. The aroma of it cooking is enough to revive the dead and the flavor of the finished product was like a bomb going off in your mouth. All other bacon I’ve ever had doesn’t even equal a shadow of Benton’s Bacon. It’s a real masterpiece in my opinion. His hams are sublime.

This short ten minute video reveals that his products are the result of pure love. He’s a neat guy. There’s a small trove of interesting short videos on youtube about him as well.

If you place an order, ask for a ham bone or two for your bone broth.
