abdominal obesity linked to anxiety depression

Story at-a-glance

  • Worldwide, depression is the leading cause of ill health and disability, and anxiety is the most common mental illness in the U.S.
  • In the U.S., more than 16 million people struggle with depression and, in 2018, 1 in 4 women in their 40s and 50s are on antidepressant drugs. Up to 14% of pregnant women are also on antidepressants, despite the risk of birth defects
  • There are compelling links between a high-sugar, processed food diet and poor mental health outcomes, and studies investigating the connection between obesity and mental health add further support to the diet-depression link
  • Studies have shown women with abdominal obesity are at increased risk of anxiety and depression
  • On the whole, a diet that nourishes your gut microbiome, reduces insulin resistance and optimizes mitochondrial function — such as a cyclical ketogenic diet — is going to have a beneficial impact on both your physical and mental health

Depression and anxiety are two leading mental health problems that have seen a dramatic rise in incidence in recent years. Worldwide, depression is now the leading cause of ill health and disability,1,2 with rates rising 18% in the decade between 2005 and 2015.3

In the U.S. in 2018, more than 16 million people struggle with the condition, and 1 in 4 women in their 40s and 50s are on antidepressant drugs.4 This, despite the fact that antidepressants have been proven to work no better than placebo.5,6,7,8 Eight9 to 14%10 of pregnant women are also on antidepressants, even though studies have linked their use during pregnancy to birth defects.11

More Than 200 Prescriptions Are Known to Cause Depression

medication causing depression

Story at-a-glance

  • Depression can stem from a wide variety of biological, psychological and environmental factors, including other medications. More than 200 drugs have depression as a listed side effect
  • Thirty-eight percent of American adults are on one or more medications that can cause depression as a side effect. Nearly 10% are on three drugs or more known to cause depression
  • Seven percent of people who used just one drug associated with depression reported depression. Among those taking two drugs capable of causing depression, the depression rate was 9%
  • Those taking three or more drugs known to have depression as a side effect had three times the rate of depression as those who used drugs that did not have depression as a known side effect — 15% compared to 5%
  • Many drugs also raise your risk of suicidal ideation, and the proportion of adults taking at least one drug where suicide is a potential side effect reached 24% as of 2014, up from 17% in 2005

Historically, conventional science views depression as a side effect of a chemical imbalance in the brain. Most pharmaceutical-oriented solutions for depression still to this day revolve around this theory, even though the serotonin-hypothesis has been largely debunked.1 As noted in a 2014 paper on antidepressants:2

Nearly 1 in 4 Women 60 and Over Use Antidepressants

antidepressant use in women 60 and older

Story at-a-glance

  • Depression is a mood disorder commonly treated with antidepressants; data reveal 24.3% of women age 60 and older are on antidepressants, which is over twice as many as women age 18 to 39 years
  • The number of women on antidepressants jumps dramatically in the 40-to-59-year age range, which experts believe is related to perimenopause and post-menopause. During these years, hormonal changes can have a significant effect on a woman’s mood
  • The number of women on antidepressants is greater than men in all age ranges. While women are three times more likely to attempt suicide than men, one woman dies for every four men by suicide
  • Experts recognized a rising number of people with depression over the last two decades, but there was a marked jump in the number during the pandemic and the levels have remained high
  • Scientific evidence demonstrates antidepressants do not improve the user’s quality of life, and the effect is only slightly greater than placebo in the short-term and has poor long-term outcomes. This has led many doctors to consider other more effective options

Depression is a mental illness that affects the way you understand and relate to your environment and the people around you. It is deeper than sadness or a low mood and includes symptoms that vary from mild to severe. People who are depressed1 may have trouble sleeping, loss of energy, changes in appetite or loss of interest in activities they once enjoyed.

GRADUALLY, THEN SUDDENLY

“How did you go bankrupt?” Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.”
― Ernest Hemingway, The Sun Also Rises

Gradually, then suddenly”: How the Protecting Our Democracy Act addresses institutional decay | ACS

“I do not say that democracy has been more pernicious on the whole, and in the long run, than monarchy or aristocracy. Democracy has never been and never can be so durable as aristocracy or monarchy; but while it lasts, it is more bloody than either. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. It is in vain to say that democracy is less vain, less proud, less selfish, less ambitious, or less avaricious than aristocracy or monarchy. It is not true, in fact, and nowhere appears in history. Those passions are the same in all men, under all forms of simple government, and when unchecked, produce the same effects of fraud, violence, and cruelty.” – John Adams

Hemingway’s famous quote about going bankrupt connects with so many because it is true on a personal basis and a civilization basis. It applies to individuals and empires in decline – like the American democracy. John Adams realized two centuries ago democracy was no better than monarchy or aristocracy over the long haul. We were handed a Republic by Franklin and his fellow revolutionaries, but we failed to keep it almost from the very birth of this nation.

As we rush towards our World War 3 rendezvous with destiny, aided and abetted by politicians placed in power by globalist billionaires hellbent on the destruction of our way of life, so they own everything and you own nothing, I can’t help but ponder who is to blame and could we have avoided this dystopian outcome.

The Stagflation Trap Will Lead To Universal Basic Income And Food Rationing

Authored by Brandon Smith via Alt-Market.us,

This past week during a conference discussing Biden’s “Build Back Better” scheme House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was confronted with questions on skyrocketing inflation. After referring to higher gas prices as the “Putin Tax”, she went on to offer perhaps the dumbest (or most insidious) denial on the causes of inflation that I have ever heard. She stated:

“When we’re having this discussion, it’s important to dispel some of those who say, well it’s the government spending. No, it isn’t. The government spending is doing the exact reverse, reducing the national debt. It is not inflationary.”

Anyone with a basic understanding of economics and how central banks operate must have felt their brains explode when they heard this, I know I did. But before I get into the numerous reasons why this claim is completely false in every way, I want to give a warning – It’s very easy in this situation to assume that Pelosi and even Biden are making these arguments because they are too stupid to grasp the fundamentals of debt creation, money velocity and fiat. That said, never mistake evil for mere ignorance.

All higher level representatives of the White House are briefed by economic experts (spin doctors) well before they answer any questions on inflation, and the things they say have been carefully scripted. It’s possible Pelosi mixed her lies up a little bit, but the narrative the establishment is trying to promote is well planned. Asserting that money creation is a counterbalance to inflation instead of the cause is not brilliant, but it’s not designed to convince many people, only create confusion.

WILL THERE BE A 2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION?

“All tyrannies rule through fraud and force, but once the fraud is exposed, they must rely exclusively on force.” George Orwell

Vanessa E. Thompson on Twitter: "Just a reminder..." / TwitterEvil Assad, Evil Gaddafi, Now Evil Putin: How the West Sells War (and Makes a Killing) | Groupe Gaulliste Sceaux

“Every war when it comes, or before it comes, is represented not as a war but as an act of self-defense against a homicidal maniac.” George Orwell

The smell of tyranny is in the air. The level of propaganda, disinformation, and mistruth has reached astounding heights, as the ruling oligarchy/Deep State/globalist cabal are thrashing about violently because their frauds are being exposed on a daily basis. This shift to the tyranny of force has massive implications for everyone on the planet. When every quote from Orwell’s 1984 applies every day to everything swirling around us, you begin to realize we are in the midst of a dystopian nightmare which gets more ghoulish by the day.

The last two years have been a fraud of epic proportions, conducted by a cadre of evil money titans, their financial, media, and medical apparatchiks, with the objective of tearing down our existing social and economic structure and “resetting” the world where they own everything and you own nothing, eat bugs, and provide the slave labor needed to keep society functioning. Of course, this will be after they dispose of tens of millions of useless eaters through their Covid/Vaxx scheme, global war, and mass starvation.

The Economic Depression Is Already Here – Here’s How to Counter It

From Birch Gold Group

This week, Your News to Know rounds up the latest top stories involving gold and the overall economy. Stories include: We’re past the point of waiting for an economic depression, next bear market will be worst in Jim Rogers’ lifetime, and retail investors are bullish on gold.

The economic depression is already here, but there’s a way to counter it

Finance author Robert Kiyosaki recently spoke to Stansberry Research, reiterating his bearish stance on the global economy. Kiyosaki has been sounding the bells for what he calls the biggest crash in world history for months, initially predicting it to hit in October 2020. The S&P 500 Index has done nothing but soar since then, but Kiyosaki can’t ignore the red flags.

Dealing with the Depression of Sickness Psychosis

Guest Post by Eric Peters

It is easy to get down when it seems that almost everyone you see looks sick. When society is ill – and you feel hopeless about it.

This happens to me, regularly. I think it is a sign of mental health to sometimes feel very down about things, given how things are. That is a normal response to a depressing scene. The sight of Freaks everywhere – who do not realize they are Freaks. Who look at you – over the crest of their Face Diapers – their eyes boggled in fear and wonderment that you don’t share their certain delusions.

It is hard to keep one’s equipoise given this. Given its ubiquity. Orwell wrote about it through the character of Winston Smith, in his famous novel 1984. He had Winston musing to himself about sanity not being statistical; i.e., that just because the whole world has gone crazy, it doesn’t mean you are because you haven’t.

THANK FAUCI, GATES & DEMOCRAT GOVERNORS

Covid didn’t cause this. It’s a fucking flu. Fauci, Gates and Democrats weaponized the flu to remove Trump. They purposely created this result and have the blood of all those suicides and ruined lives on their hands. They don’t care, because your life means nothing to these sociopaths.

The US Is Caught In An Economic Death Spiral, And One Group Is Being Hit Particularly Hard…

Authored by Michael Snyder via The Economic Collapse blog,

Many have been warning for years that our economic bubble would eventually burst and that a collapse was inevitably coming, but the ferocity of this new economic crisis has caught just about everyone off guard.  And even though some states have been attempting to “reopen” their economies in recent days, the job loss tsunami just continues to roll on.  Prior to this year, the all-time record for the most new unemployment claims in a single week was 695,000.  That record was set all the way back in 1982, and it had survived all the way until 2020.  But now we have been absolutely dwarfing that number week after week.  On Thursday, we learned that another 2.9 million Americans filed initial claims for unemployment benefits last week, and that brings the grand total for this pandemic to more than 36 million

New filings for unemployment claims totaled just shy of 3 million for the most recent reporting period, a number that while still high declined for the sixth straight week, according to Labor Department figures Thursday.

The total 2.981 million new claims for unemployment insurance filed last week brought the coronavirus crisis total to nearly 36.5 million, by far the biggest loss in U.S. history. The count announced last week count was revised up by 7,000 to 3.176 million, putting the weekly decline at 195,000 between the two most recent reports.

To put that in perspective, at the lowest point of the Great Depression only 15 million Americans were unemployed.

Depression Strikes America, Looting Begins, Panic Searching “Buy Ammo” Hits Record

Via ZeroHedge

With a labor market in freefall, ten million Americans have lost their jobs in two weeks. CNN reported Thursday afternoon that stimulus checks for households could take up to 20 weeks, which is creating a perfect storm of possible social unrest.

The Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies recently warned that a “social bomb could explode at any moment” over Western cities. That is because the evolution of the pandemic, which has crashed the American economy into a depression, could result in social unraveling in major metros, specifically in low-income areas.

Writing to you from lockdown

Guest Post by Simon Black

As you might have heard, Puerto Rico is now on lockdown. Government offices and private businesses are closed, and no one is allowed to leave their homes except to buy food, attend medical appointments, etc.

This is quickly going to become global policy, at least in the West. If these measures haven’t hit yet where you live, they’re probably coming soon.

So much of what we’ve been writing about for so long is now happening. But even still, it feels surreal.

Americans Are Lonely, Miserable, & Depressed: The Legacy Of A Society That Has Rejected Family, Faith, & Patriotism

Authored by Michael Snyder via TheMostImportantNews.com,

What in the world has happened to us? Once upon a time, America was made up of tightly-knit communities that were united by family, faith and patriotism, but now we are more isolated than ever before. Of course one of the biggest reasons for this is the fact that we are all spending countless hours staring at screens instead of interacting with real people, and this is something that I covered in a previous article. However, our fundamental beliefs are also significantly shaping how we behave. For the past couple of generations, we have de-emphasized family, faith and patriotism as a nation, and instead we have become an extremely “me-centered” society that is primarily focused on doing whatever makes ourselves happy in the moment. But this single-minded pursuit of individual happiness has resulted in much of the country being perpetually mired in loneliness, depression and/or addiction.

When you look at the numbers, they truly are startling. For example, a recent survey that was conducted by Cigna found that almost half of all Americans feel lonely

Macleod: “The Last This Happened Was 1929-32…”

Authored by Alasdair Macleod via GoldMoney.com,

An Inflationary Depression

Financial markets are ignoring bearish developments in international trade, which coincide with the end of a long expansionary phase for credit. Both empirical evidence from the one occasion these conditions existed in the past and reasoned theory suggest the consequences of this collective folly will be enormous, undermining both financial asset values and fiat currencies.

The last time this coincidence occurred was 1929-32, leading into the great depression, when prices for commodities and output prices for consumer goods fell heavily. With unsound money and a central banking determination to maintain prices, depression conditions will be concealed by monetary expansion, but still exist, nonetheless.

FOURTH TURNING ECONOMICS (PART TWO)

In Part One of this article I laid out the unsustainable economic conditions which will drive the next phase of this Fourth Turnings and detailed the economic factors which drove the previous three American Fourth Turnings.

Image result for fourth turning crisis

Strauss and Howe, when writing The Fourth Turning in 1997, did not know the exact circumstances and events which would propel the next Turning. But their study of economic and demographic trends along with the attitudes of generations and historical precedents in prior Fourth Turnings, led them to conclude the driving factors of this Crisis would be debt, global disorder and civic decay.

As I watch what is currently happening in this country and around the world, it is evident to me they nailed it. The volcanic eruption in 2008 unleashed a torrent of molten lava, which continues to flow along channels of distress, but is currently threatening to burst free of these channels and wreak worldwide financial and physical devastation. A multitude of possibilities described by Strauss and Howe below are already happening or will happen in the next few years.

QUOTES OF THE DAY

“The gentle downward slope gets steeper,
and imperceptibly becomes an abyss.”

Tomas Tranströmer

“A person who has not been completely alienated, who has remained sensitive and able to feel, who has not lost the sense of dignity, who is not yet ‘for sale’, who can still suffer over the suffering of others, who has not acquired fully the having mode of existence – briefly, a person who has remained a person and not become a thing – cannot help feeling lonely, powerless, isolated in present-day society. He cannot help doubting himself and his own convictions, if not his sanity.”
