BURNING BOOKS IN A BRAVE NEW 1984 WORLD – THE AGE OF CENSORSHIP

In Part 1 of this article, I explored how Huxley, Orwell, and Bradbury foretold the use of technology by totalitarians to subjugate and control the masses. Now we move on to a currently hot topic – censorship.

“Great is truth, but still greater, from a practical point of view, is silence about truth.” Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

Nick Tyrone on Twitter: "This Venn diagram isn't possible. “1984” is set in an authoritarian future in which all pleasure is repressed; “Brave New World” in one where people are provided with

Censorship

“There was always a minority afraid of something, and a great majority afraid of the dark, afraid of the future, afraid of the past, afraid of the present, afraid of themselves and shadows of themselves” Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

Fahrenheit 451 Censorship by Riley Curry

“There is more than one way to burn a book. And the world is full of people running about with lit matches.” Ray Bradbury

The primary theme of Fahrenheit 451 is censorship. In Bradbury’s dystopia, burning books was the principal method of censorship, directed by the government, but generally supported by the masses. A form of self-censorship developed, as the dullards, intellectually lazy, and willfully ignorant, preferred books to be burned so they felt that would put them on a level playing field with the critical thinkers and intellectually curious minded.

It always comes back to the government doing everything in their power to keep the masses apathetic, ill-informed, entertained, and distracted, to ensure their continued control over society. Bradbury believed the masses would go along with censorship because they already had television, radio, and fast cars, with vacuous programming, loud music, and unceasing advertising creating over-stimulation and distraction for the populace. They were too distracted to read a book, learn, think critically, or question the authorities.

It’s not Matt Taibbi (or Substack), it’s Elon

Guest Post by Alex Berenson

The world’s most interesting billionaire has developed a love-hate relationship with Twitter – and anyone who stands up to him

Elon Musk is tired.

He’s been tired, and making mistakes, ever since he wrapped himself up in the tar baby (trigger alert) that is Twitter. Along the way he’s lost $24 billion on the little bird, by his own estimate.

Now Musk has made his worst mistake yet.

On Thursday, he picked a fight with Substack, a company one-one-thousandth Twitter’s size. Then he doubled down by attacking Matt Taibbi, a veteran investigative reporter who has done months of work at Musk’s invitation on the Twitter Files, the effort to open Twitter’s archives to examine how governments, non-profits, and companies tried to force Twitter to censor tweets and ban users.

In 48 hours, Musk has burned up what’s left of his credibility as a free speech champion. And he’s ensured the mainstream media will forever treat the Twitter Files – a key reason he bought Twitter – as a joke.

Taibbi Hits Back After Rep. Ted Lieu Calls Him A Liar

Via ZeroHedge

Journalist Matt Taibbi hit back at Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA), who called him a liar for suggesting that the FBI has been “analyzing and mass-flagging social media posts” instead of “chasing child sex predators or terrorists.”

Taibbi responded to Lieu, suggesting that he could shed light on actual figures:

“Being on that committee,” Taibbi replied, referring to the House Judiciary Committee Lieu brought up, “you should know:

– How much has been spent, and how many DHS/DOJ employees have been assigned, to monitoring and flagging social media? – Why is the FBI asking for “location information” about ordinary Americans and media outlets like @RSBNetwork ?

Taibbi also asked Lieu “What “law enforcement” objective is served by asking for Billy Baldwin’s location information?” and why the FBI and DHS are in the business of analyzing and flagging social media content at all.

“A Cautionary Tale for Everyone”: The Media Mob Turns on Taibbi

Guest Post by Jonathan Turley

There was a time when the disclosure of a back channel for politically motivated censorship would have generated widespread acclaim and called for awards. This is not that time. Just ask Matt Taibbi.

No one is suggesting that the New York Post should receive a Pulitzer Prize for its long fight to prove the truth about the Hunter Biden laptop. Despite an alliance of most of the media and political establishment arrayed against it, the New York Post fought censorship and unrelenting attacks to bring this massive influence peddling operation to light.  (Of course, the New York Times and Washington Post can keep Pulitzer Prizes for reporting on debunked Russian collusion claims created and pushed by the Clinton campaign).

In the case of journalist Matt Taibbi, his analysis of thousands of documents has met with the standard scorched earth campaign from liberal reporters and pundits.

Was the 2008 Financial Crisis Part of The Great Reset?

Via Children’s Health Defense

In an interview with Russell Brand, journalist Matt Taibbi explained why he believes the collapse of the 2008 economy was part of The Great Reset.

What did the 2008 financial crash have to do with The Great Reset, a more contemporary topic of conversation?

Plenty, according to journalist and author Matt Taibbi, who in a recent interview with Russell Brand, explained how he believes the two are linked.

Taibbi told Brand he initially noticed a public outcry while interviewing people on the campaign trail during the first presidential election after the financial crash of 2008.

“There was suddenly a huge amount of discontent from people who would normally never think negatively about Wall Street, who were suddenly saying things like, ‘How come they bailed out X company and I had to go into foreclosure? Why did that happen?’” Taibbi said.

People angered by the U.S. government’s response and financial restructuring after the 2008 crash had questions, he said, including:

In the Western world, journalism has been replaced by the Ministry of Propaganda

Guest Post by Paul Craig Roberts

“If the Trump-era FBI had executed search warrants inside the newsrooms of The New York Times and NBC News, we would be demanding evidence to prove it was legally justified. Yet virtually nothing has been provided to justify the FBI’s targeting of O’Keefe and his colleagues at Project Veritas, and the little that has been disclosed by way of justifying this makes no sense.” — Glenn Greenwald

US vs. THEM

“I’ll show you politics in America. Here it is, right here. “I think the puppet on the right shares my beliefs.” “I think the puppet on the left is more to my liking.” “Hey, wait a minute, there’s one guy holding out both puppets!”” – Bill Hicks

Anyone who frequents Twitter, Facebook, political blogs, economic blogs, or fake news mainstream media channels knows our world is driven by the “Us versus Them” narrative. It’s almost as if “they” are forcing us to choose sides and believe the other side is evil. Bill Hicks died in 1994, but his above quote is truer today then it was then. As the American Empire continues its long-term decline, the proles are manipulated through Bernaysian propaganda techniques, honed over the course of decades by the ruling oligarchs, to root for their assigned puppets.

Most people can’t discern they are being manipulated and duped by the Deep State controllers. The most terrifying outcome for these Deep State controllers would be for the masses to realize it is us versus them. But they don’t believe there is a chance in hell of this happening. Their arrogance is palatable.

How You Can Be Certain That The US Charge Against Assange Is Fraudulent

Authored by Caitlin Johnstone via Medium.com,

Julian Assange sits in a jail cell today after being betrayed by the Ecuadorian government and his home country of Australia. A British judge named Michael Snow has found the WikiLeaks founder guilty of violating bail conditions, inserting himself into the annals of history by labeling Assange “a narcissist who cannot get beyond his own selfish interest.” So that tells you how much of a fair and impartial legal proceeding we can expect to see from the British judicial process on this matter.

But the real reason that Assange has been surrendered by the Ecuadorian government, imprisoned by the British government, and ignored by the Australian government is not directly related to any of those governments, but to that of the United States of America. An unsealed indictment from the Trump administration’s District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, accompanied by an extradition request, charges Assange with “conspiracy to commit computer intrusion for agreeing to break a password to a classified U.S. government computer” during Chelsea Manning’s 2010 leak of government documents exposing US war crimes.

Silicon Valley is changing its mind about censorship.

Two weeks ago, we learned about a new campaign against “inauthentic” content, conducted by Facebook in consultation with Congress and the secretive think tank Atlantic Council — whose board includes an array of ex-CIA and Homeland Security officials — in the name of cracking down on alleged Russian disinformation efforts. As part of the bizarre alliance of Internet news distributors and quasi-government censors, the social network zapped 32 accounts and pages, including an ad for a real “No Unite the Right 2” anti-racist counter-rally in D.C. this past weekend.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“If you don’t think that the endgame to all of this [Russiagate] lunacy is a world where every America-critical movement from Black Lives Matter to Our Revolution to the Green Party is ultimately swept up in the collusion narrative along with Donald Trump and his alt-right minions, you haven’t been paying attention.

That’s because #Russiagate, from the start, was framed as an indictment not just of one potentially traitorous Trump, but all alternative politics in general. The story has evolved to seem less like a single focused investigation and more like the broad institutional response to a spate of shocking election results, targeting the beliefs of discontented Americans across the political spectrum…

It’s been impossible not to notice how effective the Russiagate affair has already been as a hammer against all other political outsiders, even those with opposite values to Trump. In fact, unless you’re a Hillary Clinton Democrat, you’ve probably been portrayed as having somehow been in on it, at one time or another.”

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“America as a country has evolved in recent decades into a confederacy of widescale industrial scams. The biggest slices of our economic pie – sectors like health care, military production, banking, even commercial and residential real estate – have become crude income-redistribution schemes, often untethered from the market by subsidies or bailouts, with the richest companies benefiting from gamed or denuded regulatory systems that make profits almost as assured as taxes.”

Matt Taibbi

QUOTES OF THE DAY

“The crash was caused by greed, not social policy. The problem was that banks were using derivative tricks to successfully disguise toxic subprime loans as good investments. All that housing credit was available because it was profitable for banks to offer it, not because they were forced by Fannie/Freddie or anyone else to lend it.”

Matt Taibbi

“Those among the fortunate rich who are not, in the rigorous sense, damned, can understand the neediness of poverty, because they are needy themselves, after a fashion; but they cannot understand true impoverishment.

Capable of giving alms, perhaps, but incapable of stripping themselves bare, they will be moved to the sound of beautiful music, at Jesus’s sufferings— but His Cross, the reality of the self-denial of His Cross, will horrify them. For they want it all out of gold, bathed in light, costly and of little weight; pleasant to see, and hanging from a beautiful woman’s throat.”

Taibbi: Eric Holder, Wall Street’s Double Agent

Guest Post by Jesse

“Holder doubtless seriously believed at first that in a time of financial crisis, he was doing the right thing in constructing new forms of justice for banks, where nobody but the shareholders actually had to pay for crime. You’ve heard of victimless crimes; Holder created the victimless punishment.

But in the end, it was pretty convenient, wasn’t it, that “the right thing” also happened to be the strategy that preserved Democratic Party relationships with big-dollar donors, kept the client base at Holder’s old firm nice and fat, made the influential rich immeasurably richer and allowed Eric Holder himself to crash-land into a giant pile of money upon resignation.

What a coincidence! In any civilized country, it’d be a scandal. In America, though, he’s just another guy selling whatever he can to get by. It was just too bad that what Holder had to sell was the criminal justice system.”

Matt Taibbi, Eric Holder, Wall Street Double Agent, Comes In From the Cold

Holder was no rogue political appointee. He was very much in the mainstream of the Wall Street wing of the Democratic Party, founded by the Clintons. Obama did nothing to reform it and added Big Healthcare and Big Pharma into the corporatist money mix.
