Survey: Family Health Insurance Now Averages More Than $20,000 A Year

Via The Federalist

The average family has spent tens of thousands of dollars in higher health insurance premiums because Obamacare has not met Obama’s pledges.

Survey: Family Health Insurance Now Averages More Than $20,000 A Year

According to a recently released report, extending employer-provided health coverage to the average American family equates to buying that family a moderately-priced car every single year. This provides further proof that Barack Obama “sold” a lemon to the American people in the form of Obamacare.

Why Not “Sign Up”?

Guest Post by Eric Peters

I mentioned the Obama Out to one of my friends the other day. He is baffled by my refusal to “take advantage” of the “exchanges” and just buy “affordable” insurance and comply with the mandate – as he has done.

Some context: We’re both self-employed and divorced; money’s tight and the cost to buy insurance on what’s left of the “free” market is exorbitant, especially for the self-employed. Which I suspect is one of the true reasons for government-mandated health insurance; that is, to discourage and then make it economically impossible for anyone to be self-employed.

Such outliers must be corralled and “nudged” – prodded – into the feed lot of corporate employment, which amounts to government control over their employment and thus, control over them.

The Obamacare Out

Guest Post by Eric Peters

It was nice of the Orange Man to rescind the punishment – the “shared responsibility payment” – applied by the IRS for failing to fork over money to the health insurance mafia, for “coverage” people didn’t want to buy or simply couldn’t afford to buy.

That latter part being the interesting part.

Tele-Prompter Boy and Obamacare

Guest Post by Eric Peters

Listen to this lead-in by a CNN Tele-Prompter reader about a federal judge in Texas ruling that the Affordable Care Act’s mandate to buy health insurance is unconstitutional:

“The law that brought health care to millions of Americans has been struck down by a federal judge.”

First words out of his mouth.

Obamacare Gutted: Core Provisions Ruled Unconstitutional By Texas Judge

Via ZeroHedge

Core provisions of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, were ruled unconstitutional by a Texas judge on Friday following a lawsuit brought by a group of Republican attorneys general from 20 states against Democratic attorneys general from 14 states led by California’s Xavier Becerra.

According to court documents (below) US District Judge Reed O’Connor of Fort Worth agreed with the GOP coalition that he had to gut key provisions of the Affordable Care Act after Congress last year eliminated the individual mandate – a tax penalty for not buying insurance.

The Heroin of “Signing Up”

Guest Post by Eric Peters

A good friend urges me to “sign up” for Obamacare. He knows about the extortion letters I have been receiving from the federal thugs who are now the enforcers for the health insurance mafia – which succeeded in getting a law passed which forces us to buy their services.

Or else.

The “or else” being punishing fines – plus interest. These are called “shared responsibility” payments but – in the first place – nothing is being “shared” (I am being forcibly mulcted) and in the second place  for whom am I “responsible”?

The Truth About Health Care

Guest Post by The Zman

Yesterday’s post, was tangentially about health care, but it got a lot of responses about health care. It is a funny subject, in that everyone starts from the premise that everything has been the way it is now since forever. The Left has been so good at proselytizing about government run health care for the last 25 years that the public suffers from collective amnesia. We forget that no one complained about insurance very much a generation ago and no one expected miracles from medicine. Health care was just not a big topic.

After a quarter century of chanting about health care, most everyone seems to buy into the belief that it is a fountain high up on Magic Mountain. It is guarded by the twin dragons of Big Pharma and Big Insurance. The keepers of the faith sent their paladin, Barak Obama, to slay the dragons so that the people could dip their cup into the fountain of health care, getting all they need. His failure to accomplish this is proof that the dragons are mighty and therefore the most extreme weapons must be deployed.

Did Obamacare Really Insure 20 Million?

Via The Daily Signal

One of the most frequently heard claims from the Obama administration is that Obamacare is responsible for insuring 20 million adults who were previously uninsured. But Heritage Foundation research shows the administration’s figure is off by a few million.

The Department of Health and Human Services claims that 20 million people have gained health coverage since the enactment of Obamacare in 2010 through early 2016.

Of those people, 2.3 million are said to be young adults (ages 19 to 25) that gained coverage between 2010 and 2013 as a result of the Obamacare provision allowing them to stay on their parents’ plan until age 26.

The remaining 17.7 million people gained health insurance from Obamacare’s first open enrollment period between October 2013 and early 2016.

The US Healthcare System Summed Up In 1 Stunning Bill

Tyler Durden's picture

While the cost of US healthcare is often said to be “an arm and a leg”, thanks to this gentleman’s knife-wielding accident, America’s doctors bring a whole new meaning to the term being “given the finger…”

“The most bonkers medical bill I’ve ever received. Cut my finger chopping veggies, got a few stitches. Dr took 45 min, billed insurance $14k.”

h/t @odavis_

$14k for some stitches in a finger… well at least he paid his “fair share.”

INFLATION ABOUT TO EXPLODE HIGHER

We all know the BLS artificially suppresses the CPI through bullshit substitution adjustments, quality adjustments, and various other incomprehensible hedonic adjustments made by government apparatchiks at the behest of their politician bosses. Some obscure theoretical academic  calculation called owners equivalent rent accounts for almost a quarter of the CPI weighting.

It has no relation to reality as it has increased by only 12% since 2012, while the Case Shiller Housing Price Index is up 52% over the same time frame. The median price of existing home sales is up 30% over the same time frame. It also has no relation to rent increases, as they have gone up 22% nationally since 2012. It’s essentially a made up number by goal seeking bureaucrats doing the bidding of their establishment masters.
