Crony Developments

“Are you on the take?”

When I tried to get Edgewater, New Jersey, politicians to answer that question, the mayor wouldn’t discuss it, ultimately telling me, “You may sit down.”

The town of Edgewater is right across the Hudson River from Manhattan. Anyone fortunate enough to live there gets a spectacular view of New York City’s skyline.

But the Edgewater city government wants to seize a choice piece of waterfront land for itself.

The spot in question is owned by a developer, the Maxal Group. Maxal bought the property for about $26 million and then spent millions more to clean it up. They planned to build apartments and, to please the town, parks, a school and a ferry stop for commuters.

Norway’s pay-off to the Clinton Foundation was strategic. According to Norad, during the period 2007 to 2015, Norway sent 584 million to the Clinton Foundation. For the next three years, they promised them a further 92 million. These vast donations from Norway appear to have made Stoltenberg the head of NATO and Obama the Nobel Peace Prize.

IKEA PRODUCTS KILL AMERICAN CHILDREN

It seems IKEA has decided to “voluntarily” recall 36 million of their shit particle board, slave labor produced products. All it took was the deaths of six innocent children and the government threatening legal action. Executives from IKEA should be prosecuted. They’ve known these products were defective since the early 1990s. I was in the corporate office in the early 1990s when the first child was killed when one of their cheap shabbily made drawers fell on the child. My boss, Mike McDonald, was the CFO and negotiated the payout to the family.

When the top drawers of these crap units are pulled out, the drawer unit falls over. IKEA then started giving out straps to secure the units to the wall, rather than fix the defect. Profits matter more to this “social responsible” company than the lives of children. They’ve been caught using child labor in India to make their rugs. They push the limits of tax laws to avoid taxes. Their products had formaldehyde in them until they were forced to stop.

They still deny responsibility for killing these kids. What a great company.

IKEA recalls 36 million chests and dressers after six deaths

Swedish furniture company IKEA Group [IKEA.UL] is recalling almost 36 million chests and dressers in the United States and Canada but said the products linked to the deaths of six children are safe when anchored to walls as instructed.

The recall covers six models of MALM chests or dressers manufactured from 2002 to 2016 and about 100 other families of chests or dressers that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said could topple over if not anchored securely to walls, posing a threat to children.

MADOFF: SCHUMER WOULD COME TO HIS OFFICE TO COLLECT “CONTRIBUTIONS”

Good article about Madoff in Politico called: Bernie Madoff speaks: Politics, remorse and Wall Street

Here are a few juicy tidbits:

  • Madoff described in detail the “never ending” fund raising solicitations from politicians, and was harshly critical of President Barack Obama, even though he said he voted for him in 2008. The politician he said he admires the most is Sen. Ron Wyden, the Oregon Democrat.
  • He warned that he is sure there are other “bad players like myself” getting away with another massive Ponzi scheme. And he offered one piece of advice to investors: Stay away from the stock market.
  • Madoff and his wife Ruth made several hundreds of thousands of dollars in political donations since the 1990s, according to Federal Election Commission records. The recipients were mostly Democrats, and the roster included Sen. Chuck Schumer, ex-New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, Rep. Joseph Crowley, Sen. Jeff Merkley and Hillary Clinton during her Senate bid.
  • Madoff said Schumer, whom he described as a “personable guy,” would ask him for money a couple of times a year. “They would come up [to Madoff’s office] just to say hello and collect the money,” he said. Approached in a Senate hallway last week, Schumer seemed willing to talk to a reporter — until the subject of Madoff came up. “I’m not commenting,” the New York Democrat said as he walked away. “I am not commenting.”
  • Even though he’s donated to Clinton, Madoff doesn’t think she would make a good president. “I certainly wasn’t impressed with her as secretary of state,” he says. “Our foreign policy is a mess.” Madoff voted for Obama in 2008, but now says he is “terribly disappointed” in the president and would not have voted for him a second time. “His policies are too socialist.”
