A great political revulsion is underway. The mystery of Trump and his popularity confounds only those who believe the current political class is not exploiting and screwing up everything they touch. The shallow-minded media come to mind. The rest of us understand the revulsion.
The risk of electing a Trump is great, but continuing with the current Mafia has a certain end. The choice is one between rusting out with certainty (i.e., over a longer period of time) versus a chance of solving the rust problem but with the risk of burning out immediately. In short, it is akin to the decision of allowing King George to slowly milk the life out of the country or risking war against the then most powerful country in the world. Back then many wanted to choose the rusting process rather than risk the fires of war. After all, how bad could things get in the short span of a lifetime?
Fortunately, the nation back then was not filled with political correctness and cowardice. A minority prevailed and the freedom and liberty that changed the world was the result. A similar decision point, on a less grandiose scale, seems to be driving today’s political machinations.
