Is This What You Call Being Prepared?

Guest Post by Jeff Thomas

In talking with American clients about their need to prepare themselves for the upcoming socio-economic/political upheaval in their country, my advice to them primarily revolves around the concept that, if you’re living in a bad neighbourhood, the obvious solution is to leave.

Many choose to do just that. Those who have limited funds seek out employment in a country that’s less likely to be dramatically impacted than their home country. Those who are a bit more well-heeled generally liquidate what they can in their home country and forward the proceeds to one where the economy and socio-political situation are more stable—and one where the rights of the individual are more greatly respected.

Emergency Preps From A To Z

Authored by Ashley Allen via The Organic Prepper blog,

Emergency preparedness is serious business but not all of our endeavors need to take on the gravity of life and death. This is a fun list, and while the suggestions are solid, it is by no means a list that covers everything you need to be prepared.

Without further ado, here’s an alphabetical list of preps that could serve you well.

Emergency Preps from A-Z

I’ve chosen one prep for each letter of the alphabet to help you get ready for disasters large or small.

A – Alcohol-based hand sanitizer: It’s important to have hand sanitizer on hand in case you don’t have access to soap and water. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer can help reduce the spread of germs and bacteria. Not a fan of hand sanitizer and prefer a natural approach? Here’s an article that explains when to use what kind of product.

B – Battery-powered radio: In the event of a power outage, a battery-powered or hand-crank radio can be a vital source of information. It can help you stay updated on weather forecasts, evacuation orders, and other important alerts. We recommend this one.

C – Cash: In an emergency, ATMs and credit card machines may not be available, so it’s important to have a supply of cash on hand. This can be used to purchase necessary supplies or pay for evacuation expenses. Put back small bills. You may not be able to get change during a crisis.

The Ugly Truth About Prepping

Guest Post by James Walton

The Ugly Truth About Prepping

The fruits of prepping have gone mainstream. After the pandemic, the US toilet paper epidemic and the summer riots of 2020, it became clear the crazy preppers were not so crazy after all.

I talked to Business Insider and the New York Times who all wanted me to rub it in the face of the unprepared. Of course, I laughed at the idea.

As the world is navigating what could be the pretext for WWIII I find myself much less worried about the accolades of all that we preppers have achieved both for ourselves and for the nation at large. Instead, I am thinking about the ugly truths of prepping and what to expect next.

Let’s take a closer look at some of those ugly truths.

‘Preppers’ Quietly Stock Up For The ‘Perfect Storm’

Authored by Allan Stein via The Epoch Times,

A crippling ice storm that left Travis Maddox and thousands of other Missouri residents without power in 2007 had an “almost apocalyptic feel to it.”

“No one could move. It just shut the whole region down for two weeks. I wasn’t as prepared as I thought,” said Maddox, a burly man of 43 sporting a long black beard, T-shirt, cargo pants and baseball cap, while tending his garden.

Those two weeks made Maddox realize that being prepared—“prepping,” as it’s called today—was the key to a life of self-reliance and personal freedom.

As an Eagle Scout, he never forgot the Boy Scout motto: Be prepared.

“To me, the ultimate level of prepping is being self-sufficient. You’re still being modern, but you’re in control,” Maddox told The Epoch Times in a phone interview on Thursday.

Secretive ‘prepping’ community growing amid pandemic, racial unrest

Via WRAL

— Cyber attacks, nuclear warfare, civil unrest, hurricanes and snowstorms. These are just a few of the catastrophes survivalists across North Carolina are preparing for.

A small and secretive community exists in the Triangle, focused on preparing for worst-case scenarios. These people are ready to last without electricity, a trip to the grocery store, or running water for anywhere from a couple months to as long as 3 years.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says families should be prepared for a natural disaster, and recommends that families have a gallon of water for each person, non-perishable food, a first aid kit and a battery powered radio.

But “preppers” take planning for emergencies a step further. Bradley Garret, a social geographer, told the BBC there are likely 20 million preppers across the globe.

Survivalists, Escapists and the Rapture in the Prophetic Future!

Via newantisemitism.com

by Olivier Melnick

I ran across this link on another website, and thought it would make an interesting post.

There are not that many topics in the Bible that cause so much controversy as the Rapture does. Some people believe in it, some don’t. From those who believe that the Rapture is a real event that will be fulfilled literally–and I belong to that group–many positions exist. The Rapture might happen before the Tribulation, during or after. I personally believe that the Rapture will occur before the Great Tribulation, leaving behind all those who have not placed their trust in the atoning death of Yeshua the Messiah for their sins. So, on the spectrum of end-times events, we find many markers representing doctrinal positions. At each end of that spectrum, we find groups that I will identify as the survivalists and the escapists.

Here’s How 30 Preppers Have Adapted and What They Foresee Happening Next

Via The Organic Prepper

There’s a lot more crazy and a lot less money than usual, and as I’ve written before, the face of prepping has changed. It’s a lot more difficult (and expensive) to go out and stockpile as we did a few years ago, and the event we’ve faced has been a slow-burning SHTF event that has slowly and insidiously taken away financial security from hundreds of thousands of Americans.

I wondered how others have changed the way they prep to adapt to these times so I asked the folks in our Me-We group if they’ve changed how they prep and if so, what changes they’ve made. If you are interested in joining the group, go here, answer four questions, and be sure to change your profile picture from the Me-We basic images. We don’t care what you change them too, we’re just trying to avoid “bot” traffic from prowling through our group.

PREPARE WHEN NO ONE ELSE IS PREPARING

Guest Post by Ol’ Remus

These are your choices. They always were and they always will be.

Prepare when no one else is preparing.

Panic when everyone else is panicking.

Got food? Ammo? Meds? It’s too late now to prepare adequately for the pandemic much less the impending derailment of civilization itself. Preppers were calmly topping off their stashes in early January, at regular prices, in any quantity with lots-o’-choices. They saw the foreshadow of this emergency and acted appropriately. Prepping always looks crazy until the rug gets pulled. Paranoia is a survival tool, panic is not.

Be Prepared

Guest Post by The Zman

Older readers will surely recall being taught as children the importance of being prepared for the various emergencies that are a part of life. Before the usual suspects destroyed the Boy Scouts, preparedness was a central part of the Scout ethos. People used to regularly make sure they had things like candles and matches in the house. Every equinox we were told that it is a good time to check batteries, test out flashlights and portable radios, as part of general preparedness.

Media Vilifies Preppers And Those Stocking Up As “Selfish Hoarders” As Potential Mass Quarantine Looms

Authored by Daisy Luther via The Organic Prepper blog,

With the Covid19 virus popping up across the country, people who are preppers are adding a few last-minute things to their stockpiles. Those who aren’t preppers are starting from scratch to get what they think they might need to handle a potential quarantine at home.

While most of the folks on this website would read this and think, “Of course they are” there are a few who think, “What a bunch of selfish people, hoarding supplies instead of only taking a little and leaving the rest for other people.”  Often the people with this mindset are those “other people” who failed to prepare and who are upset that they missed their window of opportunity to get the necessary supplies.

Demand For “Prepper Properties” Soars Amid “Concerns About Social Stability”

Authored by Michael Snyder via The End of The American Dream blog,

In 2017 and 2018, most Americans were generally feeling pretty good about the future, and interest in “prepping” plummeted nationwide.

But now things have changed.

All of a sudden, demand for “prepper properties” is absolutely soaring, and this is driving up the prices of rural homes all over the nation.  In fact, in some of the hottest areas working class families have already been completely priced out of the market.  Meanwhile, luxury home prices in the heart of New York City have fallen to the lowest level in six years.  Many are deeply concerned about the upcoming election, and many others are alarmed by all the other crazy stuff happening all over the world, but whatever the motivation it is undeniable that an increasing number of Americans are seeking to flee the major cities right now.   There seems to be a growing consensus that our society is rapidly steamrolling toward a nightmare, and a lot of people are purchasing “prepper properties” while they still can.

Preparing for the Storm: The Perfect Storm.

By Doug “Uncola” Lynn via TheBurningPlatform.com

Out here in the still-free internet, the ether lends itself to utilizing a wide array of digital media as the means to provide source attribution as well as to establish commonality and understanding amongst ourselves.  This is, perhaps, the primary reason how internet blogs became the new town square in this millennium.  In the old days it was courthouses and town halls, and pubs.  Today, we meet in chatrooms, and on pages and threads.

It means if this blogger to were to write on how we’ve all become Sarah Conner in the Jeep riding into the storm at the end of the first Terminator film – a photo of that moment could be posted at the top of the article for emphasis.  Or, better yet, a video of that scene could be hyper-linked into the text.

Truly, it is the best of times and the worst of times.

Financial Advice for Preppers

Via Survival Sullivan

No matter what type of specific doomsday disaster you may be preparing for, a nearly identical scenario of domino effects will ultimately occur during any long-term nationwide event.

Financial collapse and hyper-inflation planning must be factored into any apocalyptic scenario you are prepping yourself and your loved ones to survive – and hopefully thrive in during the post-SHTF rebuilding stage.

Become A Frugal Prepper

The more you can prepare your family financially now, the better your chances of survival during a long-term disaster. In a post-doomsday society you will face world that is functioning on a startling and highly volatile mix of panic, general chaos, fear, and violence.

Over time, and the amount of time depending upon the type of SHTF event, surviving Americans will adjust to the new reality and begin creating a new type of society out of the rubble – both figuratively and literally.

Do not buy into the fantasy that our monetary system will survive an apocalyptic disaster of any origin. If our government is still functioning, flawed attempts to make the dollar a viable method of currency will prompt printing presses to be working on overtime. This will cause hyperinflation of epic proportions – realistically driving the price of a loaf of bread to $10 a bag.

Which Are Better Preppers or Homesteaders?

Via Survival Sullivan

preppers vs homesteaders pinterest

When it comes to preppers and homesteaders, members of the two groups can live very different lifestyles. But which are better, preppers or homesteaders?  And are they really that different? It’s true, the person you visualize when you hear the term “prepper” is likely very different from who you picture when you hear the term “homesteader”.

The Perception

If I were to say to you, my new neighbor is a “prepper” what picture do you get in your mind? Most people will likely picture a single male in his late 20’s to late 40’s wearing camouflage and loaded down with guns, knives, and ammo, right?  You’d expect to find his basement, or maybe even an underground bunker, piled high with MREs, water, and bulk bags of rice and beans packed away in mylar bags and food grade buckets.

But if I were to tell you that my new neighbor is a homesteader, don’t you get a completely different picture? You likely picture a woman or a family with children who are homeschooled to protect them from the influence of public school. You see a family who all work together to harvest their garden and care for their livestock and who store any excess by home canning, dehydrating, or otherwise preserving the food for winter.

Survival Notes: Educating the Unprepared and Uninformed…It’s Exhausting

Via Survival Sullivan

educating the unprepared

This week on our survival homestead was a lot like many others. We worked our paying jobs, we worked the land, spent some quality time with our tribe – and went to bed exhausted. The multitude of manual labor hours we put into our survival retreat this week were tiring, but yet far less exhausting that the other preparedness actions we engaged in…educating the unprepared, uninformed, and unprepared.

I am related, both by blood and by marriage, to non-preppers, some of which are Democrats. There I said it. It wasn’t easy, but they say confession is good for the soul. For the sake of full disclosure, I am almost positive at least one blood relative is not just a Democrat, he is a liberal.

This fact can make for some very stressful and outright infuriating family dinners, to say the least. Why do I bother, because even though, and I feel bad admitting it, I really don’t like some of these relatives at this point, I do love them. You never should give up on family, even if trying to enlighten and educate them makes you feel like you are hitting your head on that proverbial brick wall.
