The 3 Layers of Financial Preparedness

Guest Post by Daisy Luther

As our banking system implodes all around us, you may be wondering how on earth we can be financially prepared for the future in a world where our national currency is at extreme risk. While it’s easy to say, “Invest in precious metals,” it’s also important to know that PMs, while important, aren’t your first layer of financial preparedness.

In this article, I want to talk about how to layer your financial preparedness to help yourself through the tough days ahead. Keep in mind that you may not be able to delve into every single layer, and that’s absolutely fine – you have to prep for your unique financial situation just the same way you prep for your unique living situation. Being realistic is the key.

Food as Barter

24 BARTER ideas | barter, third grade social studies, common core social studies

Growing food is always a good thing: if you grow more than you can eat or store, you can barter or gift the surplus. I’ve mentioned that when I was growing up my family grew lots of tomatoes, while the neighbor to the north grew sweetcorn along the edge of his corn field, and others grew cucumbers, peppers, onions, or something else. We all traded freely, since we were friends as well as neighbors. Mom and Dad always had chickens for fresh eggs and the surplus were taken to church every Sunday for anyone who wanted them to take home.

They Won’t Awaken for Fear of Losing the Dream

By Doug “Uncola” Lynn via TheBurningPlatform.com

The great citizens of a country are not those who bend the knee before authority but rather those who, against authority if need be, are adamant as to the honor and freedom of that country.

– Albert Camus, Resistance, Rebellion, and Death

The task of men…is not to desert historical struggles nor to serve the cruel and inhuman elements in those struggles. It is rather to remain what they are, to help man against what is oppressing him, to favor freedom against the fatalities that close in upon it.…Man’s greatness…lies in his decision to be greater than his condition. And if his condition is unjust, he has only one way of overcoming it, which is to be just himself.

– Albert Camus, Resistance, Rebellion, and Death

Those familiar with the story of Noah’s Ark will know the ancient patriarch, as described in the Bible’s Book of Genesis, built a ship to ensure his family’s lineage through a great global flood. The mass population of Noah’s day would not survive the coming carnage and the people lived without any knowledge of what was about to happen. Perhaps they even ridiculed Noah and his family for building the ark. Regardless, the Walking Dead lived the dream until their world ended, abruptly, in a deluge that swept them to their respective deaths.

The Grand Inevitability of Unavoidable Endings

By Doug “Uncola” Lynn via TheBurningPlatform.com

It is true people are known by their actions. We are what we do. Or, more specifically, we are what we do and not what we say we’ll do. Actions speak louder than words.  It means if the swamp were to be truly drained, there would have been a steady progression of media revelations indicating genuine results during the Trump administration. Therefore, to quantify any progress of swamp draining, I collated headlines in a series of articles posted in the spring and summer of 2018. The objective at that time was to identify actual trends prior to the midterm elections based upon reported news, instead of political spin, empty promises, smoke and mirrors.

The final compilation of the series of articles was posted on September 1, 2018 and was entitled “Destination in Sight”. It summarized specific trends in accordance with previous monthly postings and there were two prominent progressions identified: 1.) The advancement of Socialism and 2.) The technological ascendency of Orwell’s Big Brother.

Staying Ahead Of The Shortages: What To Stock Up On For The Coming Year

Authored by Samantha Biggers via BackdoorSurvival.com,

While a lot of people are concerned about food shortages, one should not forget that there are a lot of items that make life easier or at least more enjoyable that come from abroad. A lot of these items specifically come from China and India. I am going to mention a few other things that are mostly made in the USA but that may potentially be in short supply as a result of the pandemic.

Food and water are primary concerns as they should be but what about these other things. I have compiled this list of things that you may want to consider acquiring if you don’t think you have enough to get through the next 6 months to a year.

Preparing for the Storm: The Perfect Storm.

By Doug “Uncola” Lynn via TheBurningPlatform.com

Out here in the still-free internet, the ether lends itself to utilizing a wide array of digital media as the means to provide source attribution as well as to establish commonality and understanding amongst ourselves.  This is, perhaps, the primary reason how internet blogs became the new town square in this millennium.  In the old days it was courthouses and town halls, and pubs.  Today, we meet in chatrooms, and on pages and threads.

It means if this blogger to were to write on how we’ve all become Sarah Conner in the Jeep riding into the storm at the end of the first Terminator film – a photo of that moment could be posted at the top of the article for emphasis.  Or, better yet, a video of that scene could be hyper-linked into the text.

Truly, it is the best of times and the worst of times.

10 Mandatory Preps Regardless of How SHTF

Via Survival Sullivan

One of the key things to learn about prepping is that even though each person has in mind specific SHTF events they believe will happen, there’s really no way to predict when SHTF or how it will happen.

One of the most dangerous things a prepper can do is to prepare exclusively with a focus on one specific type of SHTF event. Preppers that only prepare for a Tsunami or only prepare for an EMP or solar flare, put themselves at risk of not being ready if a different type of SHTF event occurs.

So what are the mandatory preps, regardless of how SHTF? What are the categories and some of the items that you should be prepping to be prepared for a wide variety of SHTF events? We’ve given you a list below.

A Modern-Day Paul Revere Not Warning of Noah’s Flood at a Wedding

By Doug “Uncola” Lynn via TheBurningPlatform.com

They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

– Luke 17:27

Over the last three months I’ve attended three weddings.  Whatever getting married in a barn signifies or portends, it’s trending, because that was the case for two out of my last three invitations.  Although one of the earlier ceremonies was held in an actual barn, the wedding and reception facilities where I attended this last Saturday appeared to have been specifically remade for human mammals because the venue was beyond elegant.

Being the very first betrothal I can recall ever attending in the month of December, it was no surprise the weather was bad given this time of year.  Fortunately, however, all of the important people were there.  Again, it wasn’t the storm that mattered that evening, but rather, more importantly, who showed-up for the feast. The accommodations were first class, and with all of the beautiful people in attendance, I commented to another guest it was like being in a movie or, at the very least, at a television awards ceremony.

The next morning one of my offspring texted me the following:

Was impressed last night by all the people who came up to you just to chat or for your advice and your handling of what could have been an awkward situation

30 Survival Items To Get In The First 30 Days Of When You Start Prepping

Via Survival Sullivan

30 items to stockpile featured

Welcome to the prepper world! Today we face the most possibilities of SHTF than ever before: WWIII, EMP, power grid down, civil unrest, and economic collapse are all very likely to happen.

So, congratulations on making the right decision to start prepping for the sake of your family’s well-being and survival. It is best to be prepared and self-reliant than relying on the government’s help and getting sent to a FEMA Camp or dying in the process of waiting.

There are many items you should start stockpiling so you won’t have to go out after SHTF to scrounge for these supplies and take the chances of being robbed or killed on the journey to town. Listed below are 30 survival items and the majority of them can be found for a cheap price.

Things We Can Learn from the Past to Prepare

People who think preppers are crazy have obviously paid no attention in history class. There are so many things that’ve happened and continue to happen in this huge planet of ours, one would have to be crazy NOT to prep.

In today’s piece, I want to take a sneak peek into our troubled, bloody history and learn a few things. I won’t go into boring details, I’ll mainly be focused on the teachings we can extract. Hopefully, you’ll see this piece as refreshing and a break from boring how-to survival articles out there.

#1. Learn to live like they did during The Great Depression.

Many people, including myself, believe an economic collapse is very likely to happen. What happened in 2008 was just a dress rehearsal if you ask me, so to figure out what life would be life after such a collapse, let’s take a closer look at what people did during the Great Depression of 1929.

Among other things:

Empty Shelves and Madness: A Minor Winter Storm Drove People Into “Panic Buying of Food And Basics”

Guest Post by Mac Slavo

Can you picture empty store shelves?

A couple of weeks ago, in early January, there was a relatively minor storm in the South and Southeast U.S. Cold weather, threat of the power going out, snow and ice and empty store shelves.

This wasn’t the big one. And yet it was enough to bring things to a panic.

If this is how people react to an extreme cold spell, then what happens when something major hits?

With about two months of winter to go, it is the kind of routine disturbance that is likely to happen again without much ado. A much more severe storm may come as well.

Shortages, and ill prepared people scrambling about for the final available resources. The angry race to the checkout line probably elicited road rage, fights and arguments… the storm that is brought out in people poses perhaps an even larger threat than the natural disaster, etc. itself.

CALL IT RETIREMENT

Hat tip Suzanne

Via Bison Prepper

Over the years-or at least the last twenty or twenty five years or so, after guys got all pussy whipped and worthless- the subject of talking your spouse into allowing room in the budget for prepping has been a hot topic. I wrote a book on it, Survival Divorce, where after embarrassing personal experience I can attest to the effectiveness of combining frugal preparations with leaving stupid dumb bitches who would rather have you and the children die rather than reduce her living standard now ( if she still had her looks she could always pimp herself out to the new warlord on the block-an ancient female survival mechanism. Hey, don’t take it personally. You were, maybe, only her baby daddy. Not her red hot lover. Maybe, because something like up to a quarter of offspring are the product of cuckolding ). And no, it wasn’t like I was the smart and strong one who left her. She took the kids and left. But it was a very expensive lesson I did learn well.

IT WAS A FEELING

After getting an extra hour of sleep last night I followed my normal Sunday routine of heading to Wal-Mart and Giant at 7:00 am to avoid the onslaught of Wal-Creatures. It was crisp Fall morning with temperatures in the low 50’s with a gusty breeze. The sun was up and as I looked up expecting nothing but blue skies. What did I see? I saw chem-trails all over the sky. If you looked to the left, nothing but blue. Look to the right and you saw chem-trails forming into low level clouds. That pissed me off and set the mood for the trip.

As I drove the few miles on empty roads I couldn’t help but get the feeling the next few days would be historic and game changing. Normally I just get the essentials I need at Wal-Mart and then make my way to Giant for the food. Today I had a feeling I should pick up a few extras. Another case of water and a few extra gallon jugs to add to my supply. Some more supplies from the emergency aisle. Last week I bought another large propane tank. I’ve had this feeling before, and nothing came of it. But the water and supplies are in my storage area for when I am right. No downside to being prepared too early.

29 Essential Tips for the New Prepper: “Start Small. Develop Your Skills. Create a Plan”

Guest Post by Mac Slavo

Whether you are just starting out with prepping and are figuring out what to focus on first, or whether you are a veteran prepper tracing over your plans for potential flaws, you can always make improvements.

These videos can help you cover the essentials, boil down to the most important factors and start actually putting your preps into action.

Don’t wait until the trouble starts, because it will already be too late.

How would you survive if the food supplies stall out, the economy and digital grid crashes, or para-government forces unleash a round-up plan?

Have you made your family as secure as they can be with stored goods, equipment and a fool proof bug out plan for continuity of life off the grid?

There are some good answers on where to start and how to account for just about everything, but the point is that you must start somewhere.

For beginners, the best tip may be to start small and build up from there as you learn what you’re doing:

Part Two: THE STUPID, IT BURNS

In Part One we left off with our good fortune in that we did not need to risk life and limb by consorting with the sheople in their confused and panicked, iCrap free state. When we started prepping that was one of my major goals.

The list maker had to work on day two of the Pockylypse but I had called the day before and told El Jefe not to plan on seeing my smiling face since we had nothing pressing at work but that I was available if needed.

I set about cleaning up the debris that was everywhere. I think I had the remains of a dozen roofs in my backyard. No one claimed ownership though so I guess it was finders-keepers. Once I made some progress I headed out on foot to see how other neighbors had fared. The volume of destruction was exactly the same as the category 4 hurricane we had endured in 1989 but without the rain. We had cold instead with temps in the twenties and teens in store.

I learned that winds on the coast were 120 mph and one hundred miles west of here the winds were clocked at 116 mph. The highest wind recorded at our airport was only 71 but I find that hard to believe judging by what I see. Four miles from my house during hurricane Hugo the anemometer broke at 112 mph and the wind damage here equaled what I saw there.

This storm occurred 19 years after, to the week that we suffered a massive ice storm that left us without power for 17 days. That was when I bought my first generator. Back then the majority of the damage was simply downed lines with a few downed poles and trees. I was told that TPTB had declared that this event was much more severe with respect to the power grid. DUH! I suspect that the Governor and his peeps were in the 3-4 never seen before helicopters buzzing back and forth over the south side of town for several hours. I do lack an emergency radio which I should buy (prep deficit #3) but to be honest I’m not missing the news or the innerwebs, or the teevee one bit.
