Are we getting stupider?

This is hard to know as we don’t have IQ exams from further back than last century. We have some ways to approximate IQ going back into the mists of time, but those will always get bogged down by debates over methods. Then you have the flat earth types who argue that IQ is not a real thing or that there are multiple forms of intelligence. Just sticking with the good data we have for the last 100 years or so, it does appear that the West is getting dumber. By how much and and how fast is the debate.

THE STUPID – IT BURNS

Two charts revealing how stupid the average American remains. Despite what should have been a once in lifetime lesson from 2005 through 2010 on the dangers of excessive leverage, dumbass Americans have been led like sheep to slaughter again by the Wall Street cabal, Madison Avenue maggots, and the mega-corporate purveyors of materialism. Wall Street is issuing more credit cards today than they did at the 2008 peak, and 90% more than they did in 2009.

The automakers, their finance divisions, and Wall Street have “sold” a new $40,000 vehicle to every Tom, Dick, and Lakesha in Amurica with subprime loans, 7 year 0% interest “deals”, and low payment leases. Now, tens of millions of these dumbasses are underwater on their auto loans. But wait. These people are so fucking stupid they NEED a new vehicle and are trading in their underwater 3 year old vehicles for another $40,000 ride. Gotta keep up with the Joneses. Just roll the old loan into the new loan and drive off the lot underwater from the get go. Simply brilliant. Meanwhile, auto loan delinquencies are soaring.

The idiocy of people taking on this level of debt once again, so they can pretend to live the good life, is mind boggling to behold by rational thinking individuals. The decay and rot of this unsustainable system is clear and the stench from our fetid putrefying carcass of a faux democracy is overwhelming.

Two quotes come to mind when you see mindless Americans in action in this great democracy of ours.

“Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.”Mencken

“Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”Carlin

I TOLD YOU WE WERE DOOMED

WTF are they teaching kids in school today? The fact that only 25% of those answering these questions got all three right makes me sick to my stomach. If you don’t graduate high school with the knowledge to get these three questions correct, then our educational system is a complete and utter failure. No wonder the government and bankers can get away with blatant fraud. The average person can’t add 3 + 6.

Most 20-somethings can’t answer these 3 financial questions. Can you?

Unsure

A new study finds that young Americans could use some help when it comes to managing their money.

Just in time for financial literacy month, a new San Diego State University study of young Americans has found that they are lacking when it comes to financial knowledge and behavior.

Out of these three questions measuring basic financial knowledge, the average respondent could answer only 1.8 correctly—and only a quarter got all three right. (Answers are at the bottom of this story.)

(1) Do you think that the following statement is true or false? Buying a single company stock usually provides a safer return than a stock mutual fund.

(2) Suppose you had $100 in a savings account and the interest rate was 2% per year. After 5 years, how much do you think you would have in the account if you left the money to grow: More than $102, exactly $102, or less than $102?

(3) Imagine that the interest rate on your savings account was 1% per year and inflation was 2% per year. After 1 year, would you be able to buy more than, exactly the same as, or less than today with the money in this account?

It’s Official: Americans R Stupid

Brain - Public DomainAs Americans, we tend to be pretty full of ourselves, and this is especially true of our young people.  But do we really have reason for such pride?  According to a shocking new report from the Educational Testing Service, Americans between the ages of 20 and 34 are way behind young adults in other industrialized nations when it comes to literacy, mathematics and technological proficiency.  Even though more Americans than ever are going to college, we continue to fall farther and farther behind intellectually.  So what does this say about us?  Sadly, the truth is that Americans are stupid.  Our education system is an abysmal failure, and our young people spend most of their free time staring at the television, their computers or their mobile devices.  And until we are honest with ourselves about this, our intellectual decline is going to get even worse.

According to this new report from the Educational Testing Service, at this point American Millennials that have a four year college degree are essentially on the same intellectual level as young adults in Japan, Finland and the Netherlands that only have a high school degree

Americans born after 1980 are lagging their peers in countries ranging from Australia to Estonia, according to a new report from researchers at the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The study looked at scores for literacy and numeracy from a test called the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies, which tested the abilities of people in 22 countries.

The results are sobering, with dire implications for America. It hints that students may be falling behind not only in their early educational years but at the college level. Even though more Americans between the ages of 20 to 34 are achieving higher levels of education, they’re still falling behind their cohorts in other countries. In Japan, Finland and the Netherlands, young adults with only a high school degree scored on par with American Millennials holding four-year college degrees, the report said.

How in the world is that possible?

I can tell you how that is possible – our colleges are a joke.  But more on that in a moment.
