As another month passes, the great schism inside the American labor force get wider. We are referring to the unprecedented divergence between the total number of high-paying manufacturing jobs, and minimum-wage food service and drinking places jobs, also known as waiters and bartenders. In October, according to the BLS, while the number of people employed by “food services and drinking places” rose by another 18,900, the US workforce lost another 4,000 manufacturing workers.

This is the fourth consecutive month of declining manufacturing workers, and the 7th decline in the past 10 months.

The chart below puts this in context: since 2014, the US had added 571,000 waiters and bartenders, and has lost 34,000 manufacturing workers.

As another month passes, the great schism inside the American labor force get wider. We are referring to the unprecedented divergence between the total number of high-paying manufacturing jobs, and minimum-wage food service and drinking places jobs, aka waiters and bartenders. In August, according to the BLS, while the number of people employed by “food services and drinking places” rose by another 34,000, the US workforce lost another 14,000 manufacturing workers.

The chart below puts this in context: since 2014, the US had added 523,000 waiters and bartenders, and has lost 13,000 manufacturing workers.

While we would be the first to congraulte the new American waiter and bartender class, something does not smell quite right. On one hand, there has been a spike in recent restaurant bankruptcies or mass closures (Logan’s, Fox and Hound, Bob Evans), which has failed to reflect in the government report. However, what we find more suspect, is that according to the BLS’ seasonally adjusted “data”, starting in March of 2010 and continuing through August of 2016, there has been just one month in which restaurant workers lost jobs, and alternatively, jobs for waiters and bartenders have increased in 77 out of the past 78 months.

We are curious what this “data” series will look like after it is revised by the BLS shortly after the NBER declares the official start of the next recession.

WHY IS THE MSM COVERING UP RECESSIONARY DATA?

The Census Bureau put out their monthly retail sales report this morning. During good times, the MSM would be hailing the tremendous increases as proof the consumer was flush with cash and all was well with the economy. Considering 70% of our GDP is dependent upon consumer spending, you would think this data point would be pretty important in judging how well Americans are really doing.

It’s not perfect, because the issuance of debt to consumers to purchase autos, furniture, appliances and electronics can juice the retail sales numbers and create the false impression of strength. That’s what has been going on with auto sales for the last two years.

The retail sales figures have been propped up by the issuance of subprime auto loans to deadbeats, 7 year 0% interest loans to good credit customers, and an all-time high in leases (aka 3 year rentals). Despite this Fed induced auto loan scheme, retail sales have still been pitiful, as the average American has been left with stagnant wages, 0% interest on their minuscule savings, surging rent and home prices, and drastic increases in their healthcare costs due to Obamacare.

The retail sales for March, reported this morning, were disastrous and further confirmed a myriad of other economic indicators that the country is in recession. GDP for the first quarter will be negative. And this time they can’t blame it on snow in the winter. They have already doubly seasonally adjusted the figures, and they will still be negative. Retail sales in the first quarter were atrocious. It might make a critical thinking person question the establishment storyline of solid job growth being peddled by politicians and their MSM mouthpieces. If people had good paying jobs, they would be spending money.

WOULD YOU LIKE FRIES WITH THAT?

Thank God for obesity and stupidity. Without it, there would be no job growth in America. We always need more teachers – it’s for the chilruns. It requires more and more union government drones to make our chilruns dumber. With 13% of the population obese and growing, we need more healthcare workers to supply them with drugs and help them tie their shoes and wipe their fat asses. But the real growth industry in America is feeding the rotund masses. In 1990 there were 17.5 million manufacturing workers in the U.S. and 6.2 million waiters & bartenders. The gap was 11.3 million.

Today there are 12.3 million manufacturing workers and 11 million waiters & bartenders. The gap is 1.3 million.

Hmm. I wonder which jobs pay more?

The American transformational success story in all its glory.

Thank you NAFTA, globalization, corporate fascists, corrupt politicians, Harvard MBAs and the insatiable appetites of the average American.
