I honestly can’t believe what I’m seeing right now. Just when I think I can’t hate the public education system more, someone shows me something like this.
Some of the questions I don’t really think are of utmost importance, I don’t expect schools to glorify and horrify every damned detail, but god damned, the overall lack of any sort of knowledge is horrifying.
One poor bint even tied it into racism in America, despite having no fucking clue what the question was, she was still able to spout off her state mandated “White Guilt” proglotard bullshit “education.”
We are well and truly fucked. See you on the other side, I’ll be the curly haired, baby faced guy screaming obscenities and waving a corn knife wildly.
Notice how most of them have an ‘answer’, that would get them through any public school common core education. “I know this”, “It is over there, right?”, “My history is a little fuzzy, can you give me a hint?”. Then there is a few honest ones, that just say, “I don’t know”.
No need for history revisionists, just do not teach it.

I had a similar but much smaller scale experience recently where I work (I am 32). During a discussion over lunch regarding the economy I used the term “robber baron” and damn near everyone had no idea what I was talking about. Didn’t matter the age, one person is a recent college grad 23yo but the group also included 30, 40 and 50 yo’s. Only one other person out of a group of almost a dozen knew what I meant, she was in her early 40’s and attended private school (I did as well from K-10). I immediately texted my wife to reinforce my thoughts about private/homeschooling vs a govt education.
it leaves me with the belief that the US govt isn’t teaching about past genocides because we aren’t that far away from witnessing another one up close and personal.
on a side note, the video is great and i am hopeful all those children and young adults felt ashamed they didn’t know the answers and it emboldened them to go and find the answers. But i am also 100% against the video creator’s agenda of mandating holocaust education in PA. We don’t need the government creating any more laws mandating what is taught, we need them out of the public school system altogether. They are the problem and not part of the solution.

Seems a lot of us remembered Santayana’s quote (which PJ accurately amended). If anyone wants to read about other similarities to where we are today — like the need to take out the political dissidents first — the wiki entry on the Holocaust is a fairly good summary of events and timing. Like Brandon Smith said just the other day, this will play out in months and years, not all at once. We need to recognize events for what they are.
I think we have driven much of the innate curiosity out of many of our young people. Also so few of them read, I mean really read. I am older than you harry (about 20 years), I commute about an hour to an hour and a half to and from work 5-6 days a week working 9-10 hours a day. I work on my house on the weekends and do stuff for my wife and kids 17 and 20. I still make the time to read a book or two a month. Some junk entertainment some more serious. I recently finished Follet’s “Winter of the World” and the parallels of the 20’s, 30’s and the lead into WWII are simply amazing and frightening.
Few kids today have the attention span to read a book that involves a serious in depth look at history. I not sure if it is all the distractions or if they have never seen a parent read a book, any book. My daughter said to me last night as I read while watching the Sox game, “I love watching you read Daddy.” I wonder how many parents ever hear this. I am not sure if we have made our lives too busy and the distractions have become our lives, but if the above video is the result them many of us are doing something wrong. Drastically wrong.

The actual murder attempt was on the Ambassador I believe in France, but the Third Secretary was the one shot, by an angry Polish Jew whose family was expelled from Germany, hardly a plot of an assassin. The Germans used ( Goebbels) this to inflame the Germans people with the direct help of the SS. The murder was not staged, but much of the violence was.

I was wondering how long it would take you to chime in. The Russians suffered horrendously under the attacks of the Third Reich. but the more than made up with their own atrocities at the end of the war. The Jews suffered as much as any of them with little to fight back with at the time. No wonder they still hold a grudge.

Bob, I was just going to say, no, I wasn’t aware it was staged. I know that Goebbels and Hitler were together when they got word of the assassination and turned it into an opportunity to rile up older soldiers who then demonstrated in the streets. The head of the Gestapo then wired all police units to stage violent actions and vandalism against Jewish targets throughout all of Germany, with many civilians joining in.
By the time the assassination occurred, Hitler had already created an environment of hated against the Jews and they were already being shipped to the borders. The kid who killed the diplomat was among those whose family had been torn apart by the deportations and he was taking revenge. Or so I thought.

You may be closer to correct, but I have read where some let the murder take place to use as an opportunity to accelerate the suppression of the Jews. It is amazing how much wealth and business enterprises were stolen from the Jews in that period, much of it legally, as they “legislated” many of their rights away. Sound familiar.

I was at the dentist a few months ago. In the waiting room with me was a young woman and her toddler. The toddler picked up a book and brought it to his mom and asked her to read it to him. The mother, all the while on her cell phone gave a look of disgust / frustration that such a request was made of her. I felt sorry for that little boy.
As I look around me and observe all of the people constantly on their cell phones I feel sorry for them too. For it is nothing but a distraction from real life. There is no substitute for reading a book. There is no substitute for a ‘quiet mind’ and the ability to think, reflect, question and learn.

This video is appalling. I’m Canadian born, parochial school educated (now living in the US for 17 years) and I was able to answer all of the questions discussed not because we learned all of it in school but b/c what we did cover fostered a natural interest and desire to learn world history outside of my little Canadian universe. The audacity of a school system that promotes American exceptionalism to this extreme while keeping everyone deliberately ignorant of significant world historical events is terrifying. No spark. No interest. No dialogue. Instead, a government-approved history curriculum that is stupefyingly dry and unprovocative.
Whenever my colleagues accuse me of being alarmist, I like to muse on that last scene in “Dr. Zhivago” where Lara’s daughter isn’t even aware of her own family history, let alone what let up to her current circumstances. Then off she goes to her government-issued job in her government-issued work clothes with her government-approved boyfriend walking beside her to his government-approved job. That simple scene haunts me as that could be my kids one day in the not too distance future….
I am not surprised at this video at all. When I went to school they glossed over most of history. Most people don’t even know that there have been war criminals convicted in our own borders. Very few know about the Andersonville Prison Camp from the Civil War or that its commander was hanged for war crimes. Very few know that Arlington was the private property of Robert E. Lee that was taken by the Union government. Very few know about the scorched earth policies of Sherman. I am curious of how these college kids didn’t know that the bombing of Pearl Harbor brought us into WW2 or that FDR was the president.

Those were the words I was looking for. I cannot emphasize enough the parallels that I see in the pre-WWII decades and the last 2 to 3 decades. Currency debasement, moral debasement, consolidation of empires, legislating away rights, right under peoples eyes. All the time we are enjoying our fancy new phonograph, playing great jazz tunes, drinking our illegal hooch, or is it staring at our Iphones, listening to Pandora or latest App, and taking our prescribed pharmaceuticals. I will say it has been a hell of a ride, but I am afraid it is not going to end well.

I taught History & Government for two years in our public school system. It took two years for that system to drive me to despair and leave the profession. Best move I ever made though.
My Seniors (we tested them) could only read and comprehend at a 3rd Grade Level. They simply could not read their assigned texts nor comprehend much of what I had to say. They 100% lacked any foundation necessary for any higher learning. Therefore, it didn’t matter what I did, what I said or how much I “really” wanted them to learn. It just wasn’t possible.
When I suggested to my superiors that I stop the facade of teaching history and focus on the immediate need for some basic literacy, I was transferred to an even worse inner city school as punishment. Fun stuff.
You can see it in these kids as well. I’m guessing that since they are in “college” that they can probably read at the level of a 6th grader but not any better. The PTB want it that way. Don’t kid yourself into believing anything else.

This meshes nicely with Admin’s Fourth Turning. I would not be surprised if many of the German youths have very vague ideas of the holocaust. Generationally they are quite detached from the horrors of WWII. I am sure they hear stories and are taught more history than our inattentive youths, but their country even with all of its strengths will suffer as much as ours in this current turning. The key is how will they react, and how will they come out the other end.

Those who are doomed to watch are all the immigrants that escaped eastern Europe after WW2 asking for asylum here; escaping communism imposed on their countries by Soviet Russia; their sons and daughters that were told the truth of communism, and historians that also read the truth that is out there for anyone to read.
Bolshevism is a disease of the mind that causes the people under its influence to become uncompromising and destructive. The most recent demonstration was the fight on the debt ceiling and the budget by the democrats (Bolsheviks). Compare this with the actions of the Bolsheviks in the second provisional government of Russia after the fall of the czar. The Democrats as the Bolsheviks are the agents of destruction. They will continue to spend until the crash of the economy and the government as we know it; then when that happens they will sweet talk the people to let them take complete control with promises of utopia by stripping the rich of their wealth. Then when they have total control they will use the raw force of the new national police to control the people; violently if needed. And after the takeover spying on those that oppose them will be easy now that the NSA has developed the necessary methods.
Right now the people have very little will. The general population is uninformed and very susceptible to the propaganda being fed to them. They are very fearful of losing their material things and their spending habits. This is how the Democrats (Bolsheviks) will control them when the crash comes. We now have one party running the government. The Bolsheviks in this controlling party come from both the Democrat and Republican Parties. Many government workers have become Bolsheviks by the militarism of their ranks and training. Our high schools and Universities are producing the next generation of government agents that will continue the Bolshevik revolution.
Yes; there has been a revolution going on in this country for some time now; and it does not involve the liberty movement: It is Bolshevism. It is succeeding because they have been gradually occupying one position of power after another, they control the media, and they are masters of deceit, slander, and intimidation through fear.

@Zara: seriously? The number is not exactly 6,000,000.00, but it is certainly in the millions, and plus or minus 10-20% doesn’t affect the magnitude of what happened.
I will say that what constantly irritates me is the single minded focus on the JEWISH Holocaust, when in fact the Nazis killed all sorts of people, particularly Russians (generally) and any middle class or above Poles – and that’s just for starters.
And people just about always leave out the other genocides around the same time – Soviets killing virtually anyone of German ethnicity (including their own citizens), killing nearly all German POWs, huge numbers of German civilians in the conquered areas, the Soviet invasions of Finland that killed a large portion of the entire Finnish population, and enormous numbers of their own ethnic Russians, Ukrainians, etc. The Soviets are at least as guilty of genocide as the Nazis, but that is rarely brought up. Don’t get me started on the Japanese either, whose treatment of all non-Japanese made the Nazis look downright polite in comparison. Even the US/UK treatment of POWs after the war was criminal.

Somehow 6 million Jews (among 11 million or so total) is something special out of the 200,000,000 or so murdered by their own governments (democide) during the last 120 years or so.
The Holocaust was bad. It was, however, just (approximately) 3% of the total.
At the end of the day, millions of deaths are just a statistic. The one that matters is the death of someone about whom you care…or yourself.

Like several others here, I have no problem with teaching about the holocaust (whatever the actual number, Zara) …. but Jews seemingly always and only want to focus on THEIR travails, to the exclusion of all others. Maybe that’s natural.

Oh, shit, I agree with Stucky. When it comes to my generation, they are a disappointment in the sense that we have the grandest collection of data in their hands and won’t use it. The worst part is that I remember having to use encyclopedia for school projects. Lugging that heavy shit around and spending hours jump back and forth from multiple books. Now I just have to go to wikipedia and just hop back and forth from pages. There is still plenty of things in the world that I do not know about. Now I am priding myself on learning more Math and Science since my high school and college were totally worthless. I had terrible experiences in college for math and science because all my professors were foreigners and I couldn’t understand what the hell they were saying. But, this is the situation we live in.
