TBP CHANGES

PLEASE READ FOR COMPREHENSION. YOU CANNOT POST MATERIAL FROM OTHER SITES WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION. THAT INCLUDES ARTICLES & PICTURES. I DON’T WANT TO BE A BABYSITTER.

Google has disabled my ads for policy violations. Considering they are my main source of revenue for the site, I’d like to try and get into compliance with their policies. Below are the descriptions of the policy violations:

Scraped content

It’s important for a site displaying AdSense to offer significant value to the user by providing unique and relevant content, and not to place ads on auto-generated pages or pages with little to no original content. This may include, but is not limited to:

  • copying portions of text content from other sources
  • websites dedicated to embedded videos from other hosts
  • websites with gibberish content that makes no sense or seems auto-generated
  • templated or pre-generated websites that provide duplicate content to users.

Sexual content

Google ads may not be placed on pages with adult or mature content. This includes, but is not limited to, pages with images or videos containing:

  • Strategically covered nudity
  • Sheer or see-through clothing
  • Lewd or provocative poses
  • Close-ups of breasts, buttocks, or crotches

Both myself and other contributors on the site have had a tendency to post entire articles from other sites because we find them interesting. Since some of these articles are copyrighted, that violates the Google policy. Going forward we’ll only post snippets from the articles, with a link to the whole article. This is how Zero Hedge, Mish and Denninger operate.

The changes due to the 2nd violation will probably depress the shit throwing monkeys. No more risque pictures posted on the site. I’ll need to delete comments that include those types of pictures.

I’ve had to go through the 14,500 posts made on TBP since 2010 and archive posts that I thought might fall within the Google definition of a violation. I’m going to file an appeal with Google today based on what I’ve done and the new guidelines. There is no guarantee they will agree, but I’m making a good faith effort to abide by their rules.

We will, too… I initially posted snippets and links to full text, but it seemed no one took the time to click through and read them, so I started pasting full text. I’ll go back to keeping it within copyright guidelines.

It’s Friday so I don’t know what to think. Is this a funny / sarcasm post? I think so (but I could be wrong) for the following reasons.

1) It seems EXTREMELY unlikely to me that Admin would actually go through 14,500 posts.

2) It seems even more unlikely that Admin would allow himself to be bullied by these corporate gestapo fuckers.

3) Admin has always said that the Ad-revenues don’t generate much income

4) Google’s guidelines are so vague I image Admin laughed out loud and said “Those assholes can go fuck themselves!!” For example, “Lewd or provocative poses” — what the fuck does that mean?

5) I thought as long as you linked the original article, that that was OK. I guess not? OK, fine … posting just parts of the article is OK. I guess I’ll also just post parts of youtube vids.

6) Lastly, this is SSS’s fault!!!!!!!! All those bouncing Selma tits pics … THAT’S what did it!!!

1) It seems EXTREMELY unlikely to me that Admin would actually go through 14,500 posts.

A lot will have to be deleted. It is a doubtful he will be able to find the original sources from the past 4 years. In turn, that will nix a lot of comment content.

3) Admin has always said that the Ad-revenues don’t generate much income

You mean profit. They still generate income to keep the site running, especially as the site has grown.

I guess I’ll also just post parts of youtube vids.

Youtube videos are usually exempt considering those who made the video get instant revenue by clicking on the video seeing as you still have to watch ads before video. Embedding Youtube automatically has the back like and the owner of the video, as long as they are not committing copyright infringement themselves, get full credit and revenue.

Ad traffic is Ad traffic, Google rules are puzzling. But we must work with what we have. I will be compliant with the changes and continue my monthly support.

For what it’s worth Admin thank you for putting up with the bullshit and keeping this site up and running.

stucky,
good points, if this was april 1st and a friday i would agree but I have spoke with eric about very similar issues and if i had to bet, it probably is true (if not, great prank admin).
i am just wondering where admin is on the “shut this fucking site down and walk away” scale?

I see the point in not posting the entire article but when i do that from anything other than a msm fuckwad i have contacted them directly (like will grigg or judge nap) and they are fine as long as there is a clear link at the end to their original.

i personally dont’ give a rats ass about people reposting my stuff (on rare occasions it has happened and i am surprised where something i wrote pops up) because I am jsut happy someone is reading it. i recognize this woudl change if i was earning any income from it.

Here’s a question for admin, when i have an original post on my site and want to post it on TBP, am I supposed to only do a portion. The only so-called victim in that case is my own traffic, which i care don’t care about.

Also, what about the language in teh comment section?
I don’t know if i will be able to continue if i can’t tell people liek bb and anonymous “to eat shit and die” and follow up with “if they don’t like it they can tongue punch their boyfriend’s poop-chute.”

sidenote:
i had a thought regarding the overlords trying to limit people. when things like blogs get shut down and the dissent adn vitriol can’t play out on the interweb that is when the likelihood of more places to start looking like Kiev.

Admin,

You can also take ANY Associate Press article, rewrite them, and it is deemed original content. This is what nearly every journalist, radio, or news commentary does, then name the original as from the Associated Press. This is what I had to do when I worked in radio. You can even see this on Fox, CNN, or MSNBC articles as well. Photos from AP can also be used seeing as they already have an AP/and photographer imprint on them.

Admin

Thanks for the explanation.

I believe that many (most?) static pics are also protected …. they “belong” to the original creator. No? So, does that mean that posting pics is also verboten?

Would you feel comfortable telling us what it actually costs to run TBP annually? I’m talking hard cash … not all your time and effort. (If people know your out-of-pocket expenses some may be more inclined to donate.)

It’s a damn shame all this shit is happening. I remember your split with Jason was because he wanted to make money off you, and that wasn’t your cup of tea. (I DO realize there’s a difference between “making money” and “covering expenses.)

Just to be sure ……. I WILL abide strictly by WHATEVER the new rules are. I love TBP too much to ever let the Google stormtroopers ever run me off.

“This happened two days after my Retail Dying article.”

You are victim of your own success. You got noted in MSM and this is the reward. Actually, it is quite beneficial in the bigger picture. Outside of the Ads there are drastic changes happening online to protect the blogger now. Means more traffic. A lot of sites are either going to die off in the next year through not having original content, giving more liberty and credit to the smaller writers. This I believe is a good trend, it shows how weak MSM is becoming. More people are searching for information in the dark corners of the internet.

thanks for clarifying and keeping up the good fight. i’ll follow teh guidelines to keep the google stasi at bay.

I’m unclear about how to handle Friday Fail, POWM, and Sunday Funnies.

You can still post Fail photos and POWM photos because fail and POWM is imprinted in the photos. You just have to start off the post with a direct link to the websites and give typed credit underneath each picture. Sunday Funnies already have the artist signature under all the photos, just give typed credit underneath. For copyright examples go to buzzfeed.com. That website is steal central for web hits. But they give proper credit.

“I’m unclear about how to handle Friday Fail, POWM, and Sunday Funnies.” —– Admin

I’m jumping around the web perusing “copyright infringement on the internet”. General consensus seems to be;

1)— Copyright on the web basically comes down to this; — If you did not write or create the article, graphic, or data that you found, then you need permission from the owner before you can copy it.

2)— Taking another person’s image or graphic and giving them a “shout out,” linkback, or any other type of attribution does not negate copyright infringement.

3)— As soon as an image is taken from one platform and used on another, there may be problems. Assume every image you find online is Copyrighted

An attorney wrote an article — “THE SEVEN DEADLY MYTHS OF INTERNET COPYRIGHT”

These are the myths he covers;

—- 1) I do not need to register my photos with the copyright office, because I ‘automatically’ have copyright at the instant I snap the shutter.”

—- 2) I got the photo off the Usenet (newsgroups) so it is in the ‘Public Domain

—- 3) My [website use, posting, whatever] is ‘Fair Use’ so I haven’t violated copyright”

—- 4) “If it does not have a copyright notice on it, it is not copyrighted – so I can use it freely.

—- 5) “If I am not making money off the photos, I am not violating copyright.”

—- 6) “I’ll win. I have a lot of rights in court. And they can not do much to me anyhow

—- 7) “Copyright violation is not a crime-it is just a quarrel between two businessmen

The link to the article is here; — http://webnet77.com/webstuff/copyright.html

Yeah, I love all our laws also. I don’t think we have enough. We need MORE, many more …. you know, to protect our freedoms and to keep us free.

Personally, I think that attorney article is a lot of Fear Mongering. There are, no doubt, trillions of pictures on the web. I’m sure millions of people are asking each other “Yo, dude! Can I post your picture?” Sure.

Not only that … HOW IN THE FUCK does one find the ORIGINAL owner anyway? Check any google picture and click on “more sizes”. Most often you’ll get dozens, if not hundreds, of the SAME picture and all of them are from OTHER websites. WHO is the original owner??

Admin is a white male (strike 1). TBP is frequented by whites (strike 2), it’s content is libertarian, somewhat conservative, and anti-establishment (strike 3). He therefore has a target on his back, and will harassed relentlessly.

Admin needs to change his name to JaAdmin, LaJimbo, or LaQuishaQinny. He needs to focus more on diversity, gender issues, women’s issues, gay issues, affirmative action, political correctness, and progressiveness. He needs to channel more hatred and guilt towards whitey, and he needs to set up a quota system, where only a percentage of comments are allowed by evil white men, and the rest reserved and set aside for minorities and women.

If he completes these tasks, he can even be hosted by Google, just like the blackfoot soldier network, that openly celebrates the murder of whites by blacks. It’s something we should all aspire to.

It’s SALMA, damnit. Her name is SALMA Hayek. How many times do I have to say that? And I don’t think my posting pics of her sent Google over the edge. I thought they were always pleasant and tasteful eye candy poses, but I could be wrong. Same with my pics of Giada.

Better candidates for censorship by Google are the pics of camel toes, wet T-shirts and other such stuff. Google’s guidelines in those two areas are fairly clear. In other areas, not so much.
•Strategically covered nudity (what the hell does this mean?)
•Sheer or see-through clothing (aha, you know who you are)
•Lewd or provocative poses (another mystery: does a Twerking pic qualify?)
•Close-ups of breasts, buttocks, or crotches (camel toes are definitely a no-no)

Which brings me to MY longstanding two-word guideline for this site …… “NO NUDITY.” That’s so much easier to understand. I tried to tell you people, but you just wouldn’t listen.
