A “liberal” as blared about today is NOT the same as a classic liberal. I’m a classic liberal and it’s just a case where the exact opposite philosophy has adopted the name of a marvelous philosophy that was the basis of libertarianism, twisted it completely out of shape and crapped on everything the classic liberal professed to believe.

Kinda like the Republican party absorbing the Tea Party whole (while spitting out any troublesome seeds of wisdom) to eliminate any competition.

Try this: https://www.princeton.edu/~achaney/tmve/wiki100k/docs/Classical_liberalism.html

Now Republicans are supposed to be classical liberals and have drifted so far to the right they can’t even spell it much less take any action the philosophy.

A pox on all of the bastards..

Gotta agree with Muck on this one and let’s zero in on that Conserv vs Lib dialogue. The Oligarchs promote this so you’ll be distracted by Conservative vs Liberal politics while they loot the economy and write laws to their advantage (think Koch bros) enacted by their bought & paid for politicians who don’t even take care to actually read the proposed laws (re: Nancy Pelosi).
We’ve crossed the Rubicon in the U.S. and the theme is no longer Conservative versus Liberal, it is we the people versus an out of control government. THAT’S what the discussion should be here IMHO because you guys/gals are smart enough to be able to understand that.

Muck and West are correct.

The only problem I have with Democrats/Liberals/Progressives is they look to the government to create laws that will grant them permission to enjoy a right they always had, or to take away someone else’s rights.

The problem I have with Republican/Conservatives is they look to the government to create laws that will grant them permission to enjoy a right they always had, or to take away someone else’s rights.

We have a Constitution, we have a Bill of Rights we have our inalienable rights, Life Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness and all that. The legislator was created to protect our rights, not grant permission to enjoy a right if you vote for them.

Somewhere along the way politics became fucked up and bullshit, and the 99% play along cheering for one side or the other as if they were cheering for a favorite sports team.
