WHAT A F$#KING JOKE

This is the kind of trivial mind numbingly stupid shit that our elected officials spend their time on in Washington D.C. The entire fucking world is exploding in violence and war caused by U.S. meddling and these douchebags are consumed with the “racist” name of a fucking sports team. This is the bread and circus bullshit used to distract the ignorant masses as Rome burns.

The American military empire is crumbling as 100 years of fiat currency fraud enters its final catastrophic phase, and these traitorous fucks spend their time writing letters to the NFL commissioner and using government agencies to damage an organization generating millions in tax revenue to pay their salaries. This fucking country is a hopeless case. We’re not a Democracy, we’re an Idiocracy.

Nancy Pelosi has a suggestion for a new name.

Washington Redskins trademarks cancelled by Patent Office

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Six Washington Redskins trademarks were cancelled by the U.S. Patent Office in a ruling on Wednesday. The ruling was made because the terms were found disparaging at the time they were registered. Fifty U.S. senators have urged the team to change their name.

Half the U.S. Senate wants the Washington Redskins football team to change its name.

50 senators, all Democrats and two independents who vote with Democrats, signed a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell dated May 21. The letter comes in the wake of sanctions against former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for racist comments.

“Now is the time for the NFL to act,” the senators wrote. “The Washington DC football team is on the wrong side of history. What message does it send to punish slurs against African Americans while endorsing slurs against Native Americans?”

Ffity of the 55 Senate Democrats signed the letter. A spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Republicans weren’t given any notice of the letter.

Dan Snyder, the owner of the Redskins, has repeatedly refused to change the name. Last year, he said, “We’ll never change the name. It’s that simple. NEVER – you can use caps.”

The letter drew praise from those favoring a name change, and some scorn from those who think lawmakers have better things to do.

Geez Stuck, I’m trying to smack down llpopc* and get a good ol’fashioned TBP slugfest going, and you come in with your calm logical arguments. Fuck you. “Cooper’s use of redskin as a Native American in-group term was entirely authentic, reflecting both the accurate perception of the Indian self-image and the evolving respect among whites for the Indians’ distinct cultural perspective, whatever its prospects.” ————- from T4C’s article

That’s an interesting historical perspective.

But, the comment that ‘redskin’ reflects —- “the accurate perception of the Indian self-image” — I’m calling mega-bullshit on that.

It’s like a life-long battered woman thinking she’s worthless … because she’s been told she’s worthless ten thousand times. Or, like me, who thought for the first decade of my life that “Hey Asshole” was my first name.

Hey, I’m enjoying the fucking joke as much as llpopc and Dem Osterreicheschen Untermensch, but the fundamental issue here is simple. “Redskins” is probably in poor taste today, whatever its origins, historical meaning and contemporary use as slang by actual native Americans. BUT… if we wipe out the trademark protection of every trademarked name that is in poor taste, we can pretty much eliminate all trademarks relating to fast food, most chain restaurants, half or more of consumer products, all prescription medications, most over the counter medications, a good half of the pro sports teams, probably 3/4 of college sports teams, etc. etc. etc.

This is a simple case of one person’s idea of good taste being used, in the name of the federal government, to take away private property rights.

Holy shit, T4C!! Do YOU go through ALL that trouble to form an opinion on EVERY post …. jsut because someone tells you to do so ……… even though you are somewhat already well read on the subject? So, no, I probably won’t read it.

Besides, it is you who misunderstands. I already said the article was an interesting HISTORICAL read. But, I am talking about TODAY.

Instead, I’ll rely on mostly common sense. It seems INCONCEIVABLE to me that Native Americans today would agree that being called ‘redskin’ is no big deal.

I also have my doubts about that Santee chief French Crow quote. Not that he didn’t say it. He did. And Chief French Crow was probably not offended by it …. but ONLY because that was the ONLY way of referring to his people using the language of the white man. I’m somewhat sure that “Native American” was terminology not used at that time period. So, I find it rather disingenuous for the author to conclude Native Americans back them were not offended by “redskin”, when it was the only damn description available.

I hope llpoh weighs in on this. He is one smart Injun, and I’ll probably go with what he says. And, if he says I’m wrong, so be it.

Washington Redskins Name Controversy is Just Another Distraction

The political correctness warriors have recently had their target coordinates set upon forcing the NFL’s Washington Redskins football franchise to change it’s name as it is offensive to a certain aggrieved demographic – the American Indian.

Not that the US government gives a damn about Indians, the genocidal mass slaughter of the nation’s only true indigenous people during the era of western conquest and Manifest Destiny doesn’t get much play from the corrupt national government nor in their pocket media. Nor does the ghettoizing of American Indians onto reservations and the institutional racism of broken treaties and stolen land but when there are political points being scored, all of the sanctimonious sacks of shit across the fruited plain (primarily Democrats in an election year) are outraged – yes indeed, outraged at the sheer immorality of the DC area’s professional football franchise’s nickname. Just more of the same hypocrisy in a slightly different package.

Not that there are more important things to spend taxpayer dollars on than frivolous crusades involving sports teams and figures, remember how the US Congress dragged numerous professional baseball stars before them to grovel over alleged steroid usage but the same US Congress couldn’t be bothered with the ongoing series of illegal wars, torture, holding Wall Street looters accountable to the law or reigning in the NSA Stasi. Kicking around guys like Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens who are basically helpless makes for good television and does not piss off campaign donors.

So once again, while Iraq is on the edge of total anarchy and Obama is ready to double down on Bush-Cheney’s war crimes by sending the troops back in and bombing the hell out of even more innocent civilians – murdering them as if they are are as expendable as the American Indians once were – the time and money of the American taxpayer continues to get pissed away on lame horseshit like today’s government intervention to strip the Redskins of their trademark.

In an action that portrays the most petty abuses of big government meddling the US Patent Office has formally stripped the Redskins of their trademark protection. According to a story in The Guardian entitled “US patent office strips Washington Redskins of ‘offensive’ trademarks”: Quoting …

———————————————————————————————————-
The US Patent and Trademark Office announced on Wednesday that it is to cancel six trademark registrations belonging to the Washington Redskins, ruling that the NFL team’s name is disparaging to Native Americans.

In a landmark decision, the offices’s trademark trial and appeal board found that the name cannot be trademarked under federal law, which prohibits the protection of names that “may disparage” individuals or groups, or “bring them into contempt or disrepute”.

“We decide, based on the evidence properly before us, that these registrations must be cancelled because they were disparaging to Native Americans,” the board wrote in its ruling.

Amanda Blackhorse, who brought the case against the team, called the ruling a “great victory for Native Americans – and for all Americans”.

The team said on Wednesday that it would appeal the decision and insisted that its right to protect its trademarks was not affected by the ruling, which would not take effect until the appeals process is complete.

The weeping and gnashing of the teeth by Democrats – 50 US Senators led by the soon to be Minority Leader Harry Reid recently sent a formal letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell basically demanding that he intervene on behalf of the Democratic National Committee (not officially worded as such) to force the name change – primarily more out of the need to be a fundraiser for the Jackass Party’s 2014 election hopes which are dismal and to fire up their base.

No Republicans were asked to sign Reid’s silly letter – although that doesn’t excuse them from being a pack of disgusting racist bastards – making it evident that this is just another political stunt.

Like the Democrats don’t have anything better to do, perhaps holding their dear leader Obama accountable for the unconstitutional spying rampage of his NSA would be a start or stopping the incompetent idiot before he starts World War III.

But that isn’t the way that the Democrats roll, choosing to manipulate Hispanics, women, gay people and any other identity based demographic for political gain in as cynical a manner possible. The crusade to force the Redskins to change their name is a perfect example.
———————————————————————————————————-

To his credit – and I don’t readily offer up much to a shameless, four-flushing, arrogant sleazy rich prick like him – team owner Daniel Snyder correctly took a stand and told the cynical culture warriors to go and fuck themselves.

In comments made by NFL broadcasting king Al Michaels during a recent interview with sports talk host Jim Rome the longtime icon not only expressed his own sentiments but offered those of Snyder. I excerpt the following from the Washington Post sports blog story entitled “Al Michaels says Redskins name debate ‘is nuts’”:

—————————————
Anyhow, NBC “Sunday Night Football” play-by-play man Al Michaels was on Jim Rome on Showtime this week, where he was featured on the Front Row segment. Rome asked Michaels whether he thought Daniel Snyder would hold on to the name.

“It seems to me as if he is going to hold on,” Michaels said. “I mean all of the sudden — I mean, for 70-some odd years this was a zero issue, and then it became an issue. I understand we live in this politically correct environment. It’s crazier than ever; you know, senators want to weigh in on this, like there’s nothing better to do in Congress. This becomes a big issue. I mean, I just think it’s nuts. And I do know, I’ve talked to Snyder about it — not recently but when we were in Washington last year — and he basically said “over my dead body.’ ”
—————————————

And today, in the aftermath of the actions by the US Patent and Trademark Office the feeding frenzy is akin to those annoying shoppers stampeding to the free samples tables at Costco.

The scrum is on with the feckless wonder Harry Reid, former Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann (he of the famous broken leg) to the millionaire radio degenerate Howard Stern are racing the cast of thousands to jump on the bandwagon. Wouldn’t their outburst of energy be better channeled in opposing the fact that Barack Obama (who himself has trashed the Redskins nickname for political gain) not commit the USA!, USA!, USA! to a historical disaster with another incursion into Iraq?

Anyway, given the collapsing state of the world this story is basically nonsensical bullshit which is my point to begin with, so just file it away in that category with all of the other weapons of mass distraction that our political elite so often use to keep the bewildered herd in exactly that state of perplexity.

Public Faith in Congress Falls Again, Hits Historic Low

by Rebecca Riffkin

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Americans’ confidence in Congress has sunk to a new low. Seven percent of Americans say they have “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in Congress as an American institution, down from the previous low of 10% in 2013. This confidence is starkly different from the 42% in 1973, the first year Gallup began asking the question.

Admin – boohoo, you whiny ass. The senators did not do shit – they wrote some letters supporting getting rid of the name Redskins. Their right, and hardly a waste of a lot of time.

Redskins is offensive. Don’t be an ass. As such, common courtesy dictates that people would not use it. Point out anywhere I said legislate it out of use. Umm… No can you do, can you?

Patent office deems the patents unenforceable. Suits me. I did not ask it be done, but it seems reasonable that offensive terms not be patentable. Not asking them be made unlawful, just not afforded legal protection via copyright.

This shit is about common courtesy and respect. Not about law. And just because a lot of people say they are not shitting on you and it is not disrespectful does not make that statement true.

I am telling you, and everyone, that it is akin to being called a nigger. It is disrespectful and it should not be done. That white folks that are the majority do not agree is neither here nor there. Snyder is hanging on as it is over money. He wants to keep disparaging Native Americans because it makes him money. It is despicable. And that bastion of common decency, Admin, supports his efforts. Go figure.

But I guess an ignorant mick does not know anything about common courtesy and respect.

This is not about political correctness, Persnickety, you dumbass. It is about calling people offensive names and disparaging them in a commercial setting. And you want to claim it is political correctness? What say we name a team the Persnickety Cocksuckers. I suppose that would not be offensive. But it sure would fit.

Admin talks about me being a libertarian. Guess I never thought about it too much. I believe govt promises life liberty and the pursuit of happiness but should not be involved otherwise, by and large.

But I personally promise no such thing. Folks that might call me a red skin to my face will not be greeted nicely, as their right to free speech might well come at the cost of lost teeth. I have never been a pacifist.

I want the govt to leave me alone. Same goes for people. Having the right to say something does not mean you can get away with it. Hamilton vs Burr is Exhibit A. People have the legal right to call me a red skin. I believe I have the moral right to defend myself against it.

All teams should now be named after animals. Animals don’t get offended because sports teams bear (pardon the pun) their names. Maybe it makes them proud.

My idea of a good team name is the U.C. Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. I’m not certain if their name is the reason you’ve never heard of their less-than-stellar athletic teams, but it’s for sure no subgroup of the populace can make a fuss about it.

My Alma Mater fielded the Aggies. The farmers of America need to rise up and stop the use of this pejorative name. Catholics could take great offense at a team called Saints. Is not one of the major tenets of their religion being minimized if not mocked? I’m a white person, and I’m not sure the White Sox name isn’t offensive to me. I’f I ponder it long enough, I can probably work up some rage.

As a Beaner, I find any suggestion of naming the team “Illegals” to be deeply offensive. My proud ancestors fought and died to repel the Aztec scourge of Mexico and its putrid Teotihuacan. They were then forced off their land and made homeless in their own nation, eventually having to emigrate to survive. To name an American football team after our struggle is condescending and insulting.

Ich werde Ihnen tuten mit meine giftigen Affen! Besonders der Osterreicher!
I don’t begrudge the Injuns their casinos. I don’t consider it a racial thing (with non-Injuns being prohibited from opening a casino). It’s more like their being heirs to a particular piece of land and what can be brought forth from it. Like inheriting a farm from your grandpa and finding oil on it. The federal government made treaties with different groups of Indians. The treaties gave the Indians limited sovereignty over their swaths of land. So they open some casinos. Around here there are some Sioux (Lakota) and Ojibwe whose reservations are close enough to the cities that their casinos can make money. Sioux or Ojibwe from different bands (way out in the boondocks) have no claim on that money and couldn’t just set up their own casino next door. Even though they’re the same race as the lucky Indians whose land was close to civilization, they can’t get into the casino racket because they’re from a band located halfway to the Artic Circle. So it’s not a race thing. It’s an inheritance thing, and they didn’t get none – other than all the mahnomen they can knock into a canoe.

As for the Washington Redskins, I don’t think a trademark should be voided just because it’s offensive. Arguing about whether it’s offensive or how offensive seems beside the point.

Well, that may be the unfortunate capstone comment of this thread. It was well buried in the firefight, but it’s there.

Llpoh – please think about the TIME those sports teams’ names were adopted, as in 70, 80, 90 years ago. Today those Indian names may seem clumsy or even insulting, but they were never meant to be disparaging. They were meant to inspire fear, as it was understood in the context of the times.

I am not asking you to dismiss the historical racism and mistreatment of Indians. But I am asking you to understand that symbols like Chief Wahoo are not meant as a racist insult, but as a compliment, however misguided as seen through a modern prism.

And none of this shit is the government’s business. THAT’S the true insult.

Individuals[edit]

These prominent Native Americans have put their opposition to the Redskins’ name on the public record:

Sherman Alexie (author, Spokane)[170]
Notah Begay (Navajo, PGA pro golfer) called the Redskins’ name “a very clear example of institutionalized degradation of an ethnic minority.”[171]
Clyde Bellecourt (Ojibwe, co-founder of the American Indian Movement)[172]
Bob Burns (Blackfeet elder)[173]
Vine Deloria, Jr. (Sioux, historian/author)[174]
Ben Nighthorse Campbell (Northern Cheyenne, U.S. Senator)[175]
Kevin Gover (Pawnee, director of The Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian)[176]
Suzan Shown Harjo (Cheyenne/Hodulgee Muscogee, author/activist)[177]
Litefoot (Cherokee/Chichimeca, rapper) ironically celebrates Native American team names as “recreational genocide” on the track ‘Stereotipik’.[178]
Russell Means (Oglala Lakota, activist/actor)[179]
Billy Mills (Sioux, Olympic gold medal winner)[180]
Ted Nolan (First Nations Ojibway, NHL player and coach)[181]
Buford Rolin (Creek tribal chairman)[182]
Shoni Schimmel (Umatilla, Louisville Cardinals guard, class of 2015)[183]
Charlene Teters (Spokane, artist/lecturer)[184]
W. Richard West Jr. (Cheyenne) – President of the Autry National Center in Los Angeles: Redskin is “an openly derogatory term. It always is and it always has been.” West also characterizes the Original American’s Foundation as an “attempt to divert attention from the fact that his team’s nickname is coming under increasing heat from people who think it’s an offensive racial term.”[185]

Fuck a bunch of Indians, a bunch of drunks that throw their trash out the front door of their Government shack on the Res. If you don’t believe me make a trip to Tonkawa Okla. or go out to Farmington NM, the drunken Bastards will lay lay down on a public Hwy if your not careful you’ll run over one. Hell I’ve seen them drink rubbing alcohol, they’ll drink anything with Alcohol in it. Anyone that disputes this has never been anywhere near a Reservation.
Don’t make me start posting stats on Alcoholism on Reservations.
