HOW CAN ROMANIA HAVE FASTER INTERNET SPEEDS THAN THE U.S.?

What are we, a fucking third world shithole? I thought we were the greatest empire the world has ever seen. I thought we were the most technologically advanced country on earth. Our government can monitor every electronic message sent or received by every citizen on earth. But, some lowly Romanian peasant living in a dilapidated shack can download a movie on the internet faster than us. WTF?? All is lost. We’re doomed. Thank the oligopoly of Comcast and Verizon for this sad state of affairs.

Infographic: These Countries Have The Fastest Internet Speeds | Statista

According to Akamai’s most recent State of the Internet Report, South Korea boasts the highest average internet connection speed in the world. Korea’s internet users surfed at an average speed of 24.6 Mbps in the second quarter of 2014 according to Akamai’s measurements (click here for details on their methodology).

Korea is trailed by Hong Kong, Switzerland and Japan who each saw average speeds around 15 Mbps. The United States ranked 14th with an average connection speed of 11.4 Mbps, which is still way above the global average of 4.6 Mbps. To add a little perspective on what these speeds mean: At 10 Mbps it takes around 50 minutes to download a 2-hour movie in HD quality.

I’m going to go out on a limb here. Since the NSA and all of the other alphabet agencies need a lot of bandwidth to vacuum up all of the data in the entire planet that they need to throttle our bandwidth to maintain theirs.
What else could explain it?

Too bad they don’t show the price in each country as well.

I am paying just under $20 for 10 Mbps service. (and that isn’t UP TO 10 Mbps, that is consistently 10 – 11 Mbsp.)

I typed in Comcast sucks in my search engine.

It only came back with 1,170,000 results.

I thought it would be much higher.

I just love having to pay the bill for the “service” a month in advance.

Well …. about eleven years ago or so, all we could in our home was either a) dialup — cheap and slooow or, 2) DSL — quite expensive at the time. So, I’m pretty happy with my bandwidth and speed.

Besides, there isn’t much difference in 11.4 (USA) and 24.6 (South Korea) in terms of REGULAR EVERY DAY usage. I’ve downloaded 300 page PDF files that take just few seconds. It does make a difference in streaming vids …. sometimes youtube vids are kind of choppy.

In regards to Smoke Jensen’s suspicion that the NSA and alphabetical agencies are the cause for slow speeds? Not so.

Do you have Netflix? I do. Ever have this problem; movies don’t load? I do, sometimes. But, far worse is watching a movie and every 5 minutes, or less, you get that fucking “loading” bar! Aaaargh!!!

You can blame the Internet Providers. For your reference, see Wiki article below on “Bandwidth_throttling” …. the INTENTIONAL slowing of Internet service by an ISP.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandwidth_throttling

.
Or, … “Internet providers continue to intentionally slow down speeds for additional money”

Fuck all the ISP extortionists (not just Comcast).

@ Stucky – Try a different browser. I used to have that problem, switched to Palemoon from FF and have not had a buffering problem since.

Palemoon is just a less bloated form of FF and will run all the same add ons.

Stucky,
I didn’t mean to suggest that the alphabet agencies are the cause of slowing down the internet. That’s beyond the capability of that gaggle of goofballs. The speed of your internet lies squarely in the hands of your ISP. They choose your download and upload speeds based upon their capacity to provide it.
What I’m saying is that based upon our technical capabilities in the F.S.A, we should be enjoying much greater speeds than we are now and I believe that speeds are limited in order to maintain a certain capacity for AAs. I’ll give you an example. I have ATT for my iPhone with an “unlimited” data plan that was granfathered when the arse holes decided they could make shitloads more money by selling 3 and 5 Gig data plans for roughly the same price and sticking people with over charges when they exceed their limits. My wife does this all of the time just by using Facebook. But I digress. Even though I have an “unlimited” data plan (a 2′ pipe), when I exceed 3 Gigs they throttle my band with down to a garden hose. It’s evident with slower downloads and choppy Youtube videos even though I have full signal. What I’m saying is this ( I can’t prove it but believe it ), that we have the capacity for much greater speeds but the ISPs limit the bandwith so as to allow the AAs to do what they do. What kind of bandwidth do you reckon it takes to download all voice and (meta)data traffic for the entire F.S.A in real time? I think the bandwidth they consume is set aside from consumer bandwidth and that’s why were left near the bottom of the list.
I could be wrong but I’d appreciate it if you didn’t tell my wife.

All those countries have faster speeds because they have less than 26 letters in their alphabets so it takes less time for stories to travel. Or something like hat.

Old Roy proposed that it is diversity, contrary to published propaganda, that is the USA’s weakness. The countries surpassing the USA in MPS and bandwidth are not diversified. They have stiffer erections and lead the world in the sciences and lunar exploration by virtue of their racial purity.

WOW…so ignorant…”Romanian peasant living in a dilapidated shack ” . Do you even know where Romania is located on the map? Or even Europe? Do you know how we live? What Romanians invented? Say thank you for flying on a jet, for insuline and for many others , you have it because some romanian peasants ! And yes ,you from the great empire of the world as you call it, which btw has more flaws than Romania, we have better internet, go cry some more over it.

Fuck off, y’all!!!

My dad is from Romania and I still have relatives there. We still, to this day, send them big “care packages” 2-3 times per year. I’m sure the bigger cities are far from being a third-world scenario. But, my dad’s relatives are from a small village. And judging from the pics I have personally seen … it ain’t all that great.

Hey, Admin … I’m working fast and furiously on the cars thread. You can probably see the progress. It’s more involved than I expected …. as usual. Not sure I’ll be done today, but I’m trying. 🙁

Eugend66 – hiya! Glad to see you post.

You should have kicked these assclowns in the nuts.

The pure and simple answer is that the US spends all of its money on the free shit army, and almost no infrastructure gets built or repaired. Drive thru the shithole LA for an example of third world roads.

How does Romania have better roads than the US? FSA.

How does (fill in the blank) have better (fill in the blank) than the US? FSA

Answer FSA to any combo, and you will get at least a passing grade.

I read somewhere recently, could have been TBP, where Romania is the location of one of the worlds most prolific illegal hacking and internet scamming operations. As I recall, what used to be idyllic country towns without things like indoor toilets, now have luxury McMansions, 5 star hotels, world class eateries, exotic sports and luxury cars etc, all built and paid for from the proceeds of spamming, scamming internet asswipes that got rich stealing from people and companies. Not only that but they have server farms where they host internet traffic so that other countries can do the same remotely. That requires bandwidth.

I keep my puters in pretty good shape and most websites, photos and videos load almost faster than I can blink. Why anyone needs a faster connection is beyond me. If I encounter any slow loading issues it is almost always due to issues at the site I’m trying to access. TBP had such issues no so long ago. I’d guess that a big reason for the lower bandwidth in the US is due to sheople standing right next to each other texting instead of talking. WTF is up with that? If you could prevent that stupid behavior everyone’s speed would double instantly.

How has advanced technology improved mankind ? Internet has given us additional outlets to shopping and porn, now there is an improvement.(sarc)

Hey, Administrator !

I still doubt that you could be an american, I still have doubts that you, Americans, can be so dumb! Or maybe you are just a frustrated romanian that tries to integrate himself because is just landed in USA ?

Anyways, you, Americans should travel more and get more knowledges and not at least, get more open-minded such as we, Europeans do. You have not culture, nor story. Go to learn something from the countries that have millenary stories!

PS : Are you confusing romanians with gypsies? Well, my dear, go to take some lessons of ethnology & linguistics so you can understand the difference between gypsy people ( ethnic group, originally from Asia and widespread all over Europe and outside Europe. They actually speak their own language, different of any other european language and very similar to the indian one) and romanian people ( latin descents, speaking one of the 5 latin languages and a franchopone language) .

Anyways, my dears, I wish you all a good time, and please…. my advice : open some books, make some trips, open your mind, learn something new… eat different, not just junk-food.. help people in need around the world, as Europe is doing, we are tired of your wars and stupidity.
