Wife and I just watched this movie for the first time a week ago, this scene had us both looking at each other nodding, saying, remember when…..

Smith Barney for a while, then a friend, and finally Edward Jones, all fucked us over and lied just so they could keep us paying the hidden fees while they lost our money.
Fuck the client? Fuck brokers.
We left that cesspool of liars in 2008, not sorry, I don’t give a shit if the market hits 20k, fuck brokers.

It took me from 25 to 45 – to figure this out also. Prudential Securities / Piper Jaffrey.

I use old Charles Schwab – the last of the Mom and Pop brokers.

They called me up once (many years ago) and asked me if I’d like to have a personal investment advisor to hover over my accounts and trade for me..

I just said, “No! And never ask me again.” And they didn’t. But their services are suburb and their associates are really well trained and respond to any request with alacrity.

But they don’t manage squat for me.. (I can lose money quite well enough on my own, thank you!)

I had a dollar in for about a decade…truly the exemplary doubling. During the fun Dean Witter guy would call me, and we are talking tip money here, to churn on some “good advice. I got wise to that and scooted over to Smith Barney. A lot less chatter, but the broker was smart enough to know that moving the tip money was a waste of his time when he could move the whole table of bigger “diners”. I bugged out of the whole game of smoke and mirrors around 2005. The 401k is still is suspended animation, untouchable by the company rules until I go dig dirt or take the big nap. The responsibility for me exists in my shoes. Carlin was a prophet.

Merry Christmas, Jim Quinn!
