ARE YOU A 1%er

Damn. I missed it by that much.

I wonder why New York and Connecticut have the largest gaps between the 1% and the 99%. It’s a mystery.

Officially, to be considered in the top 1% in America, your household income would need to be well north of $380,000, according to IRS 2014 data. On a state-by-state level, the benchmark fluctuates, as you can see above.

The most unequal states in the U.S.? According to the EPI report, New York and Connecticut had the largest gaps in 2012 between the average incomes of the top 1% and the bottom 99%, with the 1% earning more than 48 times the income of the poorest residents.

“There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.
At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores
and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
“The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.
In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.
So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
“But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.
besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
“He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family,
for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
There is nothing wrong with having ! It’s the not sharing . We are all responsible for each other . One cannot legislate Goodness in man . So thus all the current inequality you see in this article!

NoHomeHere,

I gave you a thumbs up, but things seem a lot different now than when Jesus told that story. Now there’s Section 8 housing, free K-12 schooling , SNAP, Obama phones, free medical care (Medicaid + free clinics) – also food shelves, home heating assistance, almost-free public transportation, etc. If you give a beggar money now, it’s likely that they’ll just use it for alcohol or drugs. I once asked a priest what he does for beggars on the exit ramps. He said he gives them gift certificates for fast food restaurants. I guess that’s something.
