This is gonna be a weird request ….. coming from me ….. the agnostic … or am I a Deist? … the guy who is going to hell according to some. 🙂
I’ll be gone all day tomorrow. Leaving for NYC at 7AM. My mom’s surgery (total hip replacement) is scheduled for 1PM.
I’m turning for help to you folks who pray …. will you pray for my mom tomorrow? I look forward to seeing her tomorrow, and holding her hand before they wheel her away to the operating room, and telling her — “Don’t worry, mom. I have friends all over America praying for YOU!!”
And you good folks who don’t pray, I’ll tell mom — “And many more of my friends across America and beyond are thinking about you this very moment!”
It means so much to me, being able to ask you this favor. Thanks, so much.
The prayers have been said. I’m sure everything will go well.
Rise Up
I’ll give your mom my prayers, Stucky. My late father had 9, yes N-I-N-E, hip replacement operations over the course of 40 years, beginning in the late 60’s when the technology and materials weren’t perfected. And being so active as he was (horseback riding, mostly), he tended to wear them out about every 5 years.

@ Stucky,
Best wishes to your mom, hope her surgery goes well. My nondenominational hippie prayers are with her.
Thanks everyone — those who responded, those who will, and others.
This will be my last post for the day, as I am baking up a batch of her favorite cookies, and I’ll probably be up until midnight … much to Ms Freud’s chagrin, as I am NOT a morning person. If possible, I’ll check in before I leave tomorrow morning … as your well wishes give me GREAT comfort.
I checked out several articles/web sites re that surgery. It’s overwhelmingly successful with only about a 1% chance of serious complications. But, my mom will be 80 next month … so I guess I’m just a Big Fat Pussy for being so scared.
We’re staying overnight in the city tomorrow. Will be back Saturday. Maybe I’ll even have an “adventure” to post.
Good Night & God Bless (I think Red Skelton signed off that way.)
My thoughts and prayers are with you Stucky. You’ve done your research so I don’t need to tell you outcomes for hip replacements are very good. She”ll need Rehab, I don’t know how much help she will have in the home. So Ask for PT/OT eval in hospital to see if she qualifies for inpatient Rehab rather than home health rehab. If you have questions ask to speak to an RN Case Manager or Social Worker, one or the other or both will be assigned to her case.
Be thankful the surgery is available to her at her age, in the not to distant future it won’t be so.
Stucky, I don’t pray but please give your mom (and dad) my bet wishes. Your parents are some tough old farts and I enjoy hearing your stories of their lives.
Find a physical therapy place for her that has a pool. Based on my personal experience it will both speed and ease her recovery. Tasks that are difficult or painful on land become easy and comfortable in a warm pool which will help her attitude tremendously.
My wife had surgery today. Surgeon was pleased and all looks well.

Stucky – your Mom will be fine, but I’ll be praying for her, anyway. Just tell her NOT to drink anything – and I mean nothing – when she is coming out of anesthesia. She’ll be up and around in no time and lapping you.
Tell your momma that this afternoon the kids and I will be making laser guided blow dart guns in her honor. I even got some hello kitty duct tape for the occasion.
Wind chill right now is -22. Not planning on going back out for love or money.
I found that foam ear plugs fit perfectly and make a great, in the house, ‘nerf’ blow gun projectile.

I’m sorry I didn’t read this thread until this morning, two days late. It sounds like your mom is experiencing a successful outcome, even without my prayers! 🙂 She will undoubtedly need a few more as she recovers, and I will be on the job.
You are a good son. Blessings.

That is fantastic news. Has she yelled at you yet? Then you know she is back to normal 🙂
A round of applause for her surgeon and her being a tough old gal.
