Very beautiful image. Thank you for posting this. I think we too often forget that there is so much more to focus on than the barrage of bad news coming at us from all directions. Contemplating the power behind this phenomenon is simply beyond us.

Does the phrase “Chronosynclsatic Indefundibulum” mean anything to anyone?

That is a planetary nebula. In this case it’s a double star system…….one white dwarf and one slightly larger than our Sun. The larger star has gone nova and ejected the remaining shell of gas that once fueled it. A nova is the death of a star. Our Sun will do something similar once enough of it’s hydrogen has decayed to helium. A supernova is a cataclysmic explosion of a super massive red giant star.
The iridescent shock waves in the middle of each lobe are stunning!

I-S, if you stuck to posting things that don’t have any of your unnecessary verbiage, I could learn to have only positive thoughts about you. Heh.

T4C suggested we are just a bunch of frequencies, she suggested the universe looks like the brain’s own connections. So, whatever the chemical makeup of the universe, it all boils down to protons and electrons – electrical charges whirling around at specific frequencies (and different atomic weights) that constitute the different types of matter.

I’ve been looking at a slightly higher res copy of this image and it’s pretty easy to picture/imagine that the star was literally turned inside out.

T4C says:
“When I see things this magnificent that are occurring ‘out there’, I become more and more aware of the tunnel vision we parasites on Earth have in regards to what we are a minuscule part of.”
Consider this…..nearly every astronomical image you’ve ever seen, save for other galaxies, are objects that reside within our own galaxy. Although the physics is the same, I imagine that some galaxies contain some equally distinctive objects.
