AMERICAN KIDS HAVE NEVER BEEN DUMBER

This is fucking ridiculous. The taxpayers of this country fund the bloated government run public school systems in this country to the tune of $11,000 per kid per year. Billions are spent supposedly educating our youth. The spending has risen astronomically since the early 1970s. The government has imposed a warped socialization agenda in the public schools taught mostly by mediocre union teachers. The result is there for all to see. SAT scores have sunk to new lows as spending has reached new highs. The control freak liberals screaming for more money to fund bloated teacher salaries, benefits and pensions don’t give a crap about your kid’s education. They want to fill their union coffers with your hard earned money.

The bigger disgrace is the fact that only 28% of all high school graduates score at a level that would predict at least a C average in college. Then why are 66% of all high school graduates enrolling in college? It’s because Obama and his minions care not whether the kids are intellectually capable of succeeding in college? Everyone gets a loan. No child left behind from student loan slavery. So we have millions of bone headed morons with billions in debt, and even smart kids who won’t get a job in this shitty economy, with unpayable levels of debt.

You the taxpayer have dumped hundreds of billions into the government public school system, which has produced a nation of idiots, and now you the taxpayer will be on the hook for hundreds of billions in bad debt student loans made to the idiots by Obama and his liberal minions. What a fucking country.

I would like to see a break down on racial groups. Compare whites with blacks , Asians and Hispanics. I read an article last week about this issue. The author said if youtake out black and Hispanics kids Asians and white kids are scoring on the same level as European kids.At least that is what he claimed.

Seems to me part of the problem is that kids are not spending all of their time learning, part of the day is spent on indoctrination. My oldest had a general science class last year and they spent time on how bad climate change is and what they can do about it. English class spent time on social injustices.

I think the TPTB are just bidding their time and waiting for this next generation to get older and then they will be able to implement their grand plans because the kids today are being brainwashed. How many parents out there are really paying attention to what their kids are being taught? I am always having to give my kids a alternate point of view or correct outright flasehoods.

Jim, you sure that black/mexi number is correct? Seems awful low. I spent a couple of minutes googling to see if I could come up with some stats, but failed

I took my kids out of elementary school after my son came home with an “D” on a short paper in which the teacher had scrawled, “The moon is not a satellite!” across it in bold red letters. I sent the paper back suggesting she look for the definition of the word, “satellite” in a dictionary.

My daughter came home from the same school with a math problem that was corrected (swear on a stack of bibles) to reflect that 2/3 was greater than 3/4. My daughter went to school the next day and asked if the problem could be graded to reflect a correct answer? Bad idea. So, I went to the school as a concerned parent, believing it was all just a misunderstanding? Apparently not, as it turns out 2/3 was greater than 3/4, or so I was told. I then inquired if 66% was greater than 75%? Needless to say I wasn’t very popular after that.

I could go (and on) as to just how bad the system was. Repeatedly my kids were taught erroneous information, or worse, not taught “how” to think but rather “what” to think, which in the end was the final straw.

The PC, liberal, b.s. system of education we have today is a joke, a huge waste of taxpayer money, and sadly an even bigger waste of our children’s time. There are good people in the public school system but they are hopelessly outnumbered enough to make a difference. Trump is right, we need to end the US Department of Education, and it’s not the only department, but that’s another story.

I forgot. SENIORS take the SAT. The minority kids have mostly dropped out by then. My bad.

I just had to pull some research on the “hidden costs” of a college education. The intent was to show that parents never budget for more than basic costs of living, so if their kid chooses to go to sports games, eat pizza once in awhile, join a Greek organization, drink some beer, etc. it costs a lot more than they expect and budget for.

I actually, in the process of pulling data to show that these costs can add up to a “5th year” of tuition, found that the AVERAGE student graduates in 4.7 years now. The reason: many have to take at least one semester of remedial math, English, etc. in order to qualify for entry-level college courses. Additionally, despite bloated college administrations, there are fewer advisors per student than there were a decade ago, and students lack the ability to understand how many courses they need to take each semester to graduate in 4 years. So they don’t schedule as many credit hours as they should, leaving them to complete an additional semester or year.

Ultimately, this all adds up to costing each student somewhere between $15,000 – $68,000 extra, depending on type of institution. THAT is what should tell us something…

I’m ‘gifted’ in math (that and $5 will get you a Starbucks). Degrees in engineering and comp sci.

Every once in a while a friend, or a friend of a friend asks me could I help their child with math. These are usually juniors or seniors.

As time goes by I see that these ‘math questions’ have now become sort of a tricky riddles. Reading the questions irritate me, I become impatient with the stupidity. I’ve been solving real math problems for over 40 years.

What I’m getting at is the kids are being taught how to answer ‘cutesy’ questions – not math.

The decline in scores is very likely due to the changing racial demographics. IQ is extremely heritable, and a population group that has 1 standard deviation lower IQ than the other will always fall behind no matter how much money you try to throw at them.

Jim, Blacks are like 12 or 13% of the population, hispanics around 17% OFFICIALLY, though probably more when factoring in illegal immigrants, making 30% together. But more importantly, they are having much more children than whites, so when looking at their percentage of all SCHOOL AGE children, it is likely much higher than this. I recall reading not long ago headlines stating that white children now make up a minority of newborns. If you were to try to find a correlation between declining scores and race, I’m almost certain it would explain at least 85% of the change.

Greek life isn’t necessarily expensive, some houses actually cost less than the dorms even when you include dues and social fees.

Now granted that isn’t to say greek life is perfect, I hate the way they consider themselves campus organizations and allow themselves to be bullied by school administrators. They need to tell the schools to go fuck themselves and declare themselves independent of them…

Dutchman, modern Common Core math is DESIGNED to be confusing and irritating, in order to turn kids off of math/science and critical thinking. It’s the Look/Say method of math instruction.

“The most erroneous assumption is to the effect that the aim of public education is to fill the young of the species with knowledge and awaken their intelligence, and so make them fit to discharge the duties of citizenship in an enlightened and independent manner. Nothing could be further from the truth. The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all; it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. That is its aim in the United States, whatever the pretensions of politicians, pedagogues and other such mountebanks, and that is its aim everywhere else.”

Where did you get that example (I would like to pass it on if I knew some specifics).

Let’s be real, Admin. No Chlid’s Behind Left was designed to reap $64 Billion for Neil Bush, and his company “Ignite”(“W”‘s other brother, remember him). THAT’S when the wheels started coming off the education system, NOT because of Liberals, unless you’re calling “W” a liberal, that is.
Stop blaming liberals for every goddamned thing under the sun. Neo-cons are the ones running this country into the ground and making the “Ugly American” even uglier. I’d like to see some suggestions from your side of the aisle to clean out your own barn.

@Stucky: First ‘Banana’ Hill – you talkin’ ’bout my Banana? Or some neegrow banana?

Well I look at that example entitled: “Subtracting with an expanded algorithm” – What a pile of shit – it’s a terrible algorithm. Throwing words like algorithm makes it right?

If you want to teach the kids about number bases it should be done when they are old enough to understand exponents.

Dutchman’s algorithm:

500 + 60 + 8 (568)
-200 – 90 – 3 (293)

300 -30 + 5 = 275

I’m a fucking genius!

That’s common core. You can tell because it has you do all kinds of unnecessary bullshit to get the answer. Common core has you hike up and over a mountain range to get from A to B instead of the tunnel that made the trip 99% easier.

So I was going to set up this trust fund to make sure my grandchildren could go to university in the US as I did (50 years ago) and my children did (also a while back) and have come to believe that I might make better use of the funds ordering extra pepperoni on the pizzas until my toes turn up in a ditch: thanks!

Is there any measure of a robust, productive society that is not in decline in the present culture of the US? Education stinks just as politics, finance, healthcare; popular culture (music, movies,TV); relations between races, classes, and the ever-increasing number of genders; and every other institution including religion does. Children being brought up in the midst of this mayhem are not likely to have a burning desire to learn any more about the world they live in except for what they find to be of immediate use. Who would possibly be their role model? What worthwhile heroes do they have to emulate? Early on they are as cynical as everybody they watch.

Empires in decline are not characterized by the flowering of educational achievement.

Mr Westcoaster, Modern Math was created by Liberals in the 60’s to give girls an advantage over boys. Girls do better verbally so the texts were packed with definitions and vignettes of women. The plan succeeded and within 10 years, male math majors declined 50% while women increased. I hated Modern math and asked a professor why I had to study crap that had no application. He said because it was invented by a woman and it is up to you to learn it and find an application. Now Mr Leftcoaster, I respectfully suggest you muck some bullshit out of your barn.

Common Core is not legally implemented here in Virginia but it has been brought in covertly. If you challenge a teacher, they deny this.

Last year, I finally convinced one of my kids (a single father) to remove his daughter from public school. They live nearby and so I volunteered to provide the curriculum and teach her at home. We are now in the 2nd year of homeschooling.

Prior to homeschooling, her grades for Grade 2 were average or below-average, yet she was getting As and Bs on her report cards. She was in the federally-funded reading program for ‘slow learners’ and was placed in Grade 1 reading, holding her back, making her hate reading(Since we provided after-school care for her, I saw all of this transpire over the course of 2 years of public school.)

This year, in July, after an intensive year of homeschooling, she was tested with the Stanford10 standardized tests — this was to fulfill the state obligations of homeschool regulations.

She scored in the 9th stanine in all subjects (she took the full battery of tests). She scored perfect in math and science. In reading, she is on a Grade 12 level and scored a 97%.

What does that say about the lack of education taught in public education?
