AIN’T GOIN NOWHERE

I won’t be leaving the house for at least another 24 hours. We’re in the 18 to 24 inch zone. We already have more than a foot on the ground with another 16 hours of snow to go. I hate winter.

Aw, c’mon. This is the weekend that Algore predicted (what, twenty years ago?) that Global Warming would crash catastrophically down upon us, and snow would be something our children would never again experience.

Ain’t there some weapons-grade irony in this weekend’s blizzard?

(Speaking of which, I want the Oreo cookie crumbles in mine….)

For once we will be dodging the giant snow bullet…normally we are the ones getting clobbered! So, as rough as it is for you guys it’s hard to feel bad! Good luck shoveling out!

“Snowblind”

What you get and what you see
Things that don’t come easily
Feeling happy in my pain
Icicles within my brain
(cocaine)

Something blowing in my head
Winds of ice that soon will spread
Down to freeze my very soul
Makes me happy, makes me cold

My eyes are blind but I can see
The snowflakes glisten on the tree
The sun no longer sets me free
I feel the snowflakes freezing me

Let the winter sunshine on
Let me feel the frost of dawn
Build my dreams on flakes of snow
Soon I’ll feel the chilling glow

Don’t you think I know what I’m doing
Don’t tell me that it’s doing me wrong
You’re the one that’s really the loser
This is where I feel I belong

Kiss the world with winter flowers
Turn my days to frozen hours
Lying snowblind in the sun
Will my ice age ever come?

Gotta be careful about going out much in this one.

This is the Wolf Moon, and at it’s at its fullest.

Everyone should understand what that means.

Yes, it means that the N.C. State Wolfpack will knock off Duke in Raleigh this afternoon.

Just got back from shoveling for the second time this morning.

Got out the tape measure …. there’s 21″ of snow on top of the car. We’ll hit the two foot mark by noon. Might as well enjoy it ….. It’s good exercise. And, so pretty.

Bright, sunny and clear up here.

Waiting for someone to pick up their puppy. Then we’re burning brush piles.

We got 30 inches last week. Winter in the north country. Had to walk barefoot thru it to get to the hot tub this morning. I wear shoes out this time of year and the dog burries them in the snow. 15 degrees out so at least it isnt cold.

Not bad at all here in northern KY but our doomstead in central KY was hit with ice and 14 inches of snow. That means Billy is prolly snowed in down that way. Sorry Billy but better you than me. heh heh

HSF- My granddog is a border collie, really sweet natured but dumb as a box of rocks. Be that as it may, I really love her.

I sure wouldn’t wait for the snow to stop before shoveling. Get out and shovel every six inches or so. Much easier that way and not nearly as demoralizing. Besides, what if they’re wrong and you get 50″ instead of 24″?

After a magnificent 3-4 weeks of snow and temps in the 20’s it has warmed up here, been raining and turned everything to a gray, sloppy mess. The last remnants of snow are just about gone. The only good thing about it is finally getting all the dog crap picked up.

Contractors are going balls to the wall rebuilding some houses and repairing others on nearly every block after our late November storms.

I’m only 30 miles from NJ and the ground is completely bare here. They changed our forecast from 3-5 inches to 1-3. I’m hoping for zero. You can get a lot of mouse damage to fruit trees under deep snow if you don’t take precautions (tree wraps or repellent paint). It also gives rabbits a chance to browse higher into the branches.

If you live in a snow prone area and don’t already have a snow blower, you have to check out snowovel.com. I’ve been using one for 6 years, and my driveway is 1/3 mile long. This device really works and is worth every penny.

I lived in Reston VA next to Lake Anne for 20 years. Sounds like you live nearby. After moving from there to Arizona, one of the great pleasures was leaving behind for the buyer of our house every fucking item I owned that had anything to do with snow and repairing/cleaning the wood deck in the back of our house, which had to be done every spring. Pffft!!!! And they’re gone.

We’re at 40″ in Winchester, VA. The snow is just stopping now at 7:00pm after falling continuously for 31 hours. 2016 joins the blizzard of 1996 as the two biggest storms I’ve seen over the past 30+ years (although we’ve had more cumulative snow over the course of a winter). To think, it was 70° the day after Christmas…

@SSS, yes, I’m just a few minutes from Reston. Grew up here in Great Falls before Reston was even built. Robert E Simon (RESton) died last year.

28″ in my front yard and it’s still snowing. Probably hit 30″ before it ends later tonight. In 2010 Dulles recorded 32″, so we’re pretty close that record. Other big ones recently here were 1996 and 2003.

Spent a couple of hours cleaning guns and drinking maple whiskey. Biggest hassle was digging out enough space a couple of yards from the front door for the dogs to poop. Will dig out the driveway and cars tomorrow–supposed to be sunny (but cold).

——————————–
Brutal because of the nitwit people who don’t have enough experience with winter driving. Snowfalls have been sporadic here in the 70-80’s, seems to have picked up since then. Last Wednesday night we had barely an inch but there was no treatment put down on the roads and it was very icy. Everyone was thinking of the Friday forecast and the local govs were caught off guard. I saw about half-dozen abandoned cars, believe it or not. Ridiculous.

Mid eighties around these parts. I can’t decide between a nice mojito, a ice cold frothy, or a refreshing G+T. I think I will have a couple of each.
