Trump Fires Back At “Overrated” Meryl Streep Over Golden Globe Criticism

Tyler Durden's picture

In the latest highly politicized Hollywood event, last night’s Golden Globes took aim squarely at Donald Trump, when Actress Meryl Streep delivered an emotional speech railing against President-elect Donald Trump, without actually mentioning him by name. while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 74th annual Golden Globes on Sunday. The actress referred to the time Trump imitated a disabled New York Times reporter on the campaign trail, and said that particular, real-life performance broke her heart.

“But there was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good — there was nothing good about it — but it was effective and did its job,” Streep said of Trump’s imitation of reporter Serge Kovaleski, who has a congenital condition affecting the joints. “It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth.”

“It was that moment, when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter — someone he out-ranked in privilege, power, and the capacity to fight back,” she continued. “It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie; it was in real life.”

“This instinct to humiliate when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform — by someone powerful — it filters down into everybody’s life because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose,” Streep said.

She then called on the media to use its agency to hold powerful people accountable.

“We need the principled press to hold power to account, to call them on the carpet for every outrage,” Streep said. “That’s why our founders enshrined the press and its freedoms in our Constitution. So I only ask the famously well-heeled Hollywood foreign press and all of us in our community to join us in supporting the Committee to Protect Journalists, and we’re going to need us going forward and they’ll need us to safeguard the truth.”

Streep’s comments echoed actor Hugh Laurie, who earlier in the night joked there would be no more Golden Globes if Trump has his way. “You and all of us in this room belong to the most vilified segments of society right now. Think about it: Hollywood, foreigners and the press,” Streep said. She proceeded to mention several actors in the room who were born outside the United States.

“Hollywood is crawling with foreigners and if we kick them all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and the mixed martial arts — which are not the arts,” Streep said.

Streep’s speech ended with a standing ovation — the first of the night, according to reports on Twitter.

This, predictably…

… drew an outburst from Trump this morning, who tweeted that Streep is an “overrated” actress and a “Hillary [Clinton] flunky who lost big.” Trump also repeated his assertion, “for the 100th time,” that he never “mocked” a disabled reporter on the campaign trail.

Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never “mocked” a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him groveling” when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!”

Trump’s vendetta with members of the press, and certainly Hollywood celebrities, appears to only be escalating, and certainly is nowhere near any possible resolution.

Maybe it is time to just boycott Hollywood. I am sure all those actors can find jobs as….? Yes, let’s just boycott the movie industry. I guess they can live without half the potential audience.

Maybe?

Ya! But then we would have an oversupply of waiters and waitresses. There are always unintended consequences.

I don’t watch these shows anymore just because of political crap like this.

Trump has been making the media irrelevant by using Tweets. Hollywood depends on the media in order to be relevant.

All planned ahead by two factions that represent decay of American society.

Go Trump

TampaRed
TampaRed

Go Trump is correct but he needs to cut way down on his use of Twitter or people will lose interest.
I suspect that after he is sworn in he won’t have time for it anyway.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if one of his staffers isn’t already doing much of his social media.

Stucky

People will lose interest in Trump & Twitter?

Yeah, riiiight.

Homer
Homer

TampaRed, wrong, wrong, wrong! Trump need to continue with his tweets and communicate with the people directly and be truthful in those tweets. The MSM is not his friend nor does it support him. Trump need to gain the trust of the American people for any semblance of his goals as president to come to fruition. That means, he keeps his word and works for the good of all Americans. If he fails in his duty, he will end his presidency surrounded with ridicule and hatred, much as Obama has.

Trump has the chance of becoming one of the greatest president the US has ever had. Is he up to the task? I think so.

TampaRed

I should have worded that differently.I too believe that he should keep using social media to go around the msm.
However,I believe that if he uses social media too much that it will lose it’s pizzaz and people will not be anticipating what he will say next.
Also, the more he puts out there the more that the msm can criticize him for. They are trying to
de legitimatize Trump the same way that they did Bush 2.With enough poo thrown at him, eventually some will stick whether it’s true or not.

Streep is a miserable cunt.

Oh, how it pains me to say that. She has been my favorite actress for decades. I’ve literally seen every one of her movies. That ends today. I will never again watch her movies. Ever.

Although I firmly believe in the freedom of choice, it kind of pisses me off that there are so FEW people who will do likewise. You can probably count them in the hundreds, if that much. People would just rather continue supporting those who THINK YOU’RE A FUCKING ASSHOLE worthy of scorn and ridicule. So, yeah, go ahead, keep supporting that libtard cunt with whom you have ZERO in common. Assholes.

You gotta see it to believe it.

He didn’t mock the reporter. This is one of those times where I wish Fox would do their damned job instead of handing out free blowjobs to the GOP.

A 30 second piece on the truth of the situation would crush that piece of stupidity but quick.

Actually he did mock the disabled reporter. But he didn’t mock the reporter’s disability. Difference. https://www.catholics4trump.com/even-more-video-evidence-trump-did-not-mock-reporters-disability/
If these progtards had any sense, they’d understand that Trump “mocking a disabled reporter” shows that he treats the disabled no better and no worse any other human being. Having a disability doesn’t render you immune to a good mocking by The Don. I suspect this is why the reporter hasn’t said much about this. He knows he was treated the same way Trump would treat any reporter. If he wants special “disability treatment”, then he apparently has another disability – being a castrato.

By libtards’ standards, when Trump gave out Lindsay Graham’s cell phone #, he “outed a gay senator”.

Celebrities, activists and others gave an emotional goodbye to President Obama in a new video by the White House titled “Yes We Can: Your Most Memorable Moments from the Obama Presidency.”

Get out your barf bag.

And, yeah, keep supporting them with your movie money!!

My favorite part was when he jailed whistleblowers and used his nobel peace prize to press the “drone” button an American citizens.

I also like when he used his bully pulpit to commandeer nearly 20% of the US GDP in the name of “healthcare”.

Mark Dice should corner a few Hollywood freaks and throw a few simple questions from Real Life at Them.

Their security guys would beat the hell out of Dice as soon as he started asking questions.
It’s nice to speculate though.Who would come off as more vapid & ignorant, the people at the beach or creatures of Hollywood?

Stucky,
I watched 2+ minutes. Lovely, very sentimental.
My comment has nothing to do with Dem. vs Rep. Actors
or celebrities don’t usually do anything of import. I suspect
many may carry strong feelings of inferiority. They have to
award themselves shiny objects for validation. So, as a group
they virtue signal the loudest and they are motivated to show
how much they “care.” We know they care about how they look
above all else. They are idiots mostly, whining that they had to work
thru supper hour.

PS: I learned a new term, maybe here. What is a fluffer?
I told the Mr. and now I can’t get rid of it.

Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep are great actors, really great! But…I’m reminded what a friend said of her first husband, “He was a great cook, a fantastic cook. It was heaven eating his food, but he couldn’t f**k worth a damn!”

I guess one should stick to what one does best. For Tom and Meryl, that’s acting, not public political commentary.

I’m fine I almost never watch any movies anymore either. I can just watch Rocky and Rambo, Stallone is one of the few non-regressives in the amoral pit called hollywood. So many great board games and books, or I can just stare out at nature and be entertained without raising my blood pressure. The regressives worship their god the state when they aren’t worshipping materialism and hedonism. It’s funny that these people are the moralists, what a joke. Society would be much better off if people didn’t spend most of their lives in passive entertainment. It’s not good for the brain or relationships, given so many people don’t use moderation and spend most of their lives as voyeurs of life, instead of living it.

Hollywood seems rather afraid it will lose political significance under the coming Trump administration.

Hopefully their fears turn out true.

I have been boycotting hollywood for 20yrs. I have been to the moviehouse one time since 1997 and that was to see “The Martian” last year. With very few exceptions, the collection of idiots that inhabits hollywood doesn’t deserve one penny or one thought about their “politics”. Buy more ammo instead. Or contribute to TBP.

I don’t do movies either, and for a long time. I’ve never even seen a Meryl Streep movie. I don’t know any of the actors anymore, unless they were around before the early ’80s. I recognized more 1930s, ’40s and ’50s actors than I do today’s. And that was before my time.

The next four-eight years are going to be so much fun to watch. Trump is a brilliant. The liberal tools think they are going to destroy him and think they are one step ahead of him. While in truth they are playing into his hand are are two steps behind.

He comes off as a buffoon and is anything but.
Twitter is his best friend he is a master at its use

Trump allows you to think you are winning that you are getting the best of him. Then when you go away you find out he got everything he wanted out of the deal. My business mentor always told me “Know the animal” understand who you are making a deal with. TRUST me Trump is a smart man and anyone dealing with him better know what they are doing or they will get destroyed.

He is not some “celebrity” president. He maneuvered and calculated his way into the office. His whole campaign was all about 270 Elctoral votes and he acted like he didn’t know that. He completely out-maneuvered his opponent who thought she had it in the bag. He is working while his opponents are sleeping; he is making plans for the the next move while his opponents are trying to figure out what just happened. His opponents are always talking about what he said yesterday, they are always reacting; meanwhile he is already on to today.

D Trump is going to have Washington spinning on its head. Congressman and Senators are going to be called at 4:00 AM to be at the White House at 6:00 AM and ready to work. These people are not going to know what hit them.

A buffoon inserts yes men and tools around him. Like his cabinet appointments or not, it is not a cabinet of yes-men. The Obama cabinet was full of nothing but yes men. These people are coming to Washington to work. You know why? Because that is all they have done there whole lives is get up and go to work.

“Streep’s comments echoed actor Hugh Laurie, who earlier in the night joked there would be no more Golden Globes if Trump has his way.” – I don’t think it is The Donald these libtards need to worry about.
NFL ratings plummeted after the self righteous side of the millionaire spoiled baby club decided to wear their ass on their head during games. What do you suppose is going to happen to the Golden – good old libtards club already sagging ratings?
The problem is that these over paid liars have been living out other peoples life through their scripts for so many years, and have had their asses kissed by all of their sycophant “groupies” so long, they actually start to believe their own stupid. How else can you explain idiots like George Clooney and Leo DeCraprio? Stick to reading the damn script, no one, and I mean no one of any substance gives a damn what you and your ilk think that is not on your payroll in some way, or wants some type of influence.

They’re actors. They do what they always do in front of a camera: Act. The GG show is scripted like any other show or movie. It’s even in the final credits.

George Looney and his hired wife meeting with Angela Merkel campaigning in behalf of refugees in Europe? Scripted.

Leonardo diCrappio flying to Davos to give a speech against global warming? He got his script and his act laid out for him and he puts on a show. He may or may not know what he’s talking about. Doesn’t matter, he gets his check anyway.

Meryl Creep giving a pathetic speech with a breaking voice, throwing in some fake tears for good measure? A fucking act. It’s what she always does.

At these events not a single word, not a single gesture is spontaneous. It’s a damn show.

My guess is it’s not even hypocrisy on their part. They’re just acting, no more no less. It’s what they do, it’s what they get paid for. They are all whores for money and fame.

Now Streep is whining about Bawlywood and the Mentaltainment industry being vilified. If stupid libtards like her would learn to keep their damn mouth shut and keep their stupid opinions to themselves and the little bubble they live in, that would be the solution.

I’d enjoy seeing these Hollywood award shows end with the participants being herded into boxcars, destined for parts unknown.
