Reality “Check, Check, Check….”

Is this mic on?? An important message for the far left…

An Aussie brother in the outback practicing with his SMLE

By Francis Marion of Highcountryblog.com for The Burning Platform

“The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles.” ― Jeff Cooper, Art of the Rifle

“What are you laughing at?”

My PH composed himself for a moment cleared his throat, shook his head and smiled. I don’t speak Afrikaans or Zulu so I was a bit lost.

“My tracker says ‘for a guy with a stiff neck you sure do shoot good!’”

I grinned and hopped down off the back of the Toyota and started making my way with the rest of the crew into the dry, hip high grass. It had been a long morning in the hills. We’d seen hundreds of immature impala but not a single decent ram in the bunch. So when a good male exploded out of the bush to our right, crossing the track in front of our vehicle into shorter grass and an open area of large trees, my PH had a fit.

“Shoot the ram, shoot the ram! Kill it! Fast,” he yelled from the seat next to me!

Ok then.

At home shooting from the back of a vehicle is illegal. But not in Africa. In fairness, we hadn’t been road hunting (it’s not my preference) and were actually on our way back to camp to have brunch when it happened. It was late morning so I had my feet up on the roof of the Land Cruiser and was busy soaking up the sun and studying the inside of my eyelids when all hell broke loose.

By the time I grabbed my rifle from its rack and figured out what the heck was going on the small group of impala that moments ago had crossed our front bumper were already close to a hundred yards out and making a beeline for the next valley.

At about one hundred and ten yards they suddenly hung a left and started to quarter across my line of site with the ram picking up the rear. They were booking it so I jacked a round out of the magazine of the Mauser and into the chamber, stuck the crosshairs out in front of him by about a foot and squeezed.

It was like shooting whitetails on a deer drive. You don’t have a lot of time to think so you act more or less on instinct, sort of like tossing a ball. You judge speed, distance, and lead in a moment then throw. A fraction of a second later 286 grains of copper and lead met their mark and caught the ram in mid-flight. When he hit the ground he landed feet up. Four hooves and a cloud of red dust were all I could see through the lens of the scope.

There have been volumes written on the art of the rifle both in print and online but I maintain that it is still one of those things that is primarily instinctual. Over the years I have introduced many to the shooting sports and I can say with some degree of confidence that some are born into it, some learn it in time and some should probably never, ever, EVER pick up a rifle again. Ever.

I’ll never forget one of the more impressive examples of marksmanship I ever saw unfold in real time. It was my old man and I was probably about fifteen at the time. He and I had taken a high school buddy of mine out into the rolling hills of jack pine and poplar just northeast of where we lived along the Saskatchewan river to hunt some grouse.

It had been a slow morning with no birds until after an hour or two when my dad suddenly stops and nods. There were a couple of ruffies strutting around a downed pine and a mess of willows just to our left. My dad had the shot and was carrying his Ruger 10/22 so Dave and I hung back and let him maneuver in for the kill. I watched as he pulled the trigger on one bird while the other, standing only a foot or two away from the first, took off. No word of a lie my dad was on the second bird as fast as you could say ‘sum a bitch’ and knocked it out of the air from a good thirty feet. With a .22. Out of the air.

I remember Dave and I looked at one another half stunned and my old man, composed as best he could with a shit-eating grin plastered across his face hands us the birds and slyly says, “And that my boys, is how it’s done.”

I’d like to say it was luck, and I suspect in part it was, but I also have to admit he was a pretty good shot. At least for an old guy. Like his dad, he came by it naturally and so have I and both my kids, my son and my daughter apparently having inherited the same gene.

Now, this is not to say that every conservative type I’ve ever met has been handy with a rifle either, my university roommate being a prime example. But my observation is that the difference in the way the two types of people think and operate somehow leads to a difference in how they handle small arms. Why that is I couldn’t say, but I think it might have something to do with some of us being closer to our roots as predators and some of us being closer to domesticated livestock. Wolves have canines. Sheep don’t.

All joking aside, truthfully I’m not sure if it is genetic or if it is simply a confidence issue but some folks simply lack the coordination, mentally and physically, to handle the tool properly. And God forgive me for saying it but the vast majority of the folks I’ve tried to get into shooting over the years who have been a danger to both themselves and everyone around them have tended to be pretty ‘progressive’ in mindset. That’s just a numerical fact I can’t deny.

Which leads me to this Antifa nonsense I keep reading about. Apparently, these folks are unhappy with getting their asses kicked by smaller numbers of right wingers at Berkeley. Well, I get your frustration guys but the answer, in this case, is not to pick up a rifle and ‘get some training’. In fact, I’d say that’s about the worst bit of advice I’ve ever heard anyone give anyone. You see, some folks are just born to fight, like some of us are born to hunt and shoot. That’s just the way it is and no amount of training is going to change that.

So before folks start getting stupid and doing stupid things let me give you some advice:

First, if you’ve never seen what happens to a large mammal when it is struck by a bullet you ought to do yourself a favor and at least turn on youtube and have a look. Death ain’t a pretty thing and it doesn’t always happen easily or peacefully and if you can’t handle the sight of something like a deer or an elk or an elephant going down and the ordeal and blood it all entails then ask yourself how you are likely to deal with it if it is a person? Men come back from war with PTSD for a reason. It’s because killing other men is hard on the soul (assuming you got one) and can seriously fuck you up. You don’t need to experience combat to know this, I haven’t, you just have to be bright enough to listen to those who have. And learn. That listening and learning part is important.

Second, and this is something the right learned a long time ago because we have been dealing with government rats, trolls and miscreants for decades, is that the guy who is trying to convince you that ‘getting some training’ and carrying openly in order to ‘provoke righty’ is a good idea is likely being paid to get you into a whole heap of shit you don’t want any part of.

Which leads me to point number three: the guy who is leading/misleading you is working for someone else. Which means that what is really happening is you are being used. To do someone else’s dirty work. And the one thing I can guarantee you is that a man (or woman) who is willing to put you in the line of fire but not themselves ain’t worth shit and sure as hell ain’t worth risking your life for.

And finally, if an aging, partly crippled redneck like me, who has never been in the military or a police force is already light years ahead of all you ‘Che Guevara’ wannabe’s in terms of skill and training then how do you think you will stack up against the guys on the right (or possibly the government itself) who preface their names with titles such as “sergeant” or “lieutenant“? Cause if I wouldn’t fuck with those boys because I’m smart enough to know that crawling around the mountains chasing goats and mule deer ain’t combat then what makes you think you’d stand a snowball’s chance in hell with them? Hmm? Food for thought, right?

The intelligent among you, assuming there are any, will give all of these points some serious consideration. Failure to do so will land many of you in prison (likely) or possibly worse (hopefully not).

My advice is stick to protesting, peacefully, or fisticuffs (as childish as it is) if you must but don’t go for the guns.

Because while you guys and gals have been sitting around the student lounge and the coffee shop discussing ‘the revolution’ over lattes and cappuccinos the rest of us have been busy doing what we’ve always done: working for a living, playing a little and tipping over beer cans in the back yard, whitetails on the back forty and elk in the high country. For millions of us, that’s what we were born to do. How about you?

My brother-in-law is a “closet” ANTIFA. Shares the memes, uses the terminology, the moral outrage…the whole 9 yards.

One evening he expressed delight that “nazi’s” were getting punched in the face, and furthermore that all Trump voters were Nazis.

My wife asked him if he wanted to punch her in the face. The little feller couldn’t even look her in the eye, and left the room when I told him it would go badly for him if he thought he would punch my wife and get away with it.

I’ve even offered to buy some boxing gloves so he could see what it feels like to throw a punch, and even promised to only counter-strike, so that it was a 1:1 exchange rate. No. No. No.

I told him the offer held for his friends as well. Male or female. No takers.

ANTIFA is populated by effeminate posers and dreamers. People so distanced from reality that they actually believe the tripe force-fed them by Hollywood and the rest of the MSM.

“Gender is a social construct! Women are as capable as Men! All White Guys are evil racists!”

These kids have lived a life completely divorced from real hardship, but are still evolutionarily hardwired to treat their current situation like its an actual life and death struggle. So average, everyday occurrences, like being disagreed with, creates literal “shakening” as their system floods with adrenaline in a response to an intrusion from reality.

They got dispersed like the rabble they are at Berkely because the people pushing back on them have been punched in the face before. They live in reality. They are willing to do what it takes to prevent ANTIFA from pushing any further.

And I dearly pray it goes no further, because if ANTIFA arms and organizes further the crackdown will not just be on dolts in black pajama’s, but on all second-amendment enthusiasts, and my oft repeated warning of Civil War 2.0 will come to fruition, with many more factions than just North vs South as the nation tears itself apart.

I’ll know its happening when I catch an ANTIFA bullet in the back. There’s no way the little shit would have the balls to shoot me man-to-man.

I don’t use any of the “terms” but if I shot you in the eye I could hit the same eye if I could chamber a round fast enough. That came from training.

Quality in training too I’ll wager. A horde of black-pajamas who are watching a youtube video prior to every round sent downrange are less likely to hit my eye than a guy who served or hunted their whole lives.

Cool hunting story Francis, I have never been to Africa but have some funny deer stories of my own. You nailed it spot on about the little snowflakes completely missing the bigger picture.

There is a millennial kid I know (32) that i tried to take shooting time and again, told him I would teach him gun safety and all. He has no guns but kept saying he might get one. Since the election he really got into the antifa crap, I talked to him last week at the landfill and he was outraged that that poor little girl in Berkley got her ass beat. He refused to believe me when I told him that dozens of old white men had gotten beatdowns just for wearing red maga hats. I told him those days are over. And if he shows up at an antifa rally he better be prepared to get his ass kicked.

No amount of training at this late date will save these snowflakes. They will literally cry out to the government to save them. I think we are getting very close to crossing the rubicon. The tactical and real life experience of hundreds of thousands of ex military, leos, bikers, and real men who have worked with their hands, trumps millions of kids who have never even taken a punch. The phrase these children need to learn and remember is ‘mess with the bull, get the horns.’

The poor little girl at Berkeley who got her ass beat was wearing fucking lead lined gloves. She’s 5 foot nothing and she wants to go out into a mass brawl and think she’s going to do some damage? The little idiot community college professor who was beating people with a bike lock is 5 foot 2. The Asian chick who was on Tucker Carlson talking shit is about 5 foot tall. Those people are advocating violence, violence will not be very kind to them, as it almost never is to very small people. They’re going to get their’s and it won’t be pretty.

Off topic but watch for shenanigans tomorrow in the D.C. area. Zerohedge ran this piece earlier and I’m surprised TBP didn’t pick it up. There is a long list of drills that ended up “going live” (911 NORAD drill, Sandy Hook drill, Boston Bombing drill, etc.). Note that crisis actors are involved as well:

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-04-24/washington-dc-area-hold-massive-drill-preparation-complex-coordinated-terror-attack-

“April 26th is shaping up to be a busy day.

As we reported on Friday, that’s when Operation Gotham Shield, an exercise involving FEMA, Homeland Security and a myriad of law enforcement and military agencies and which simulates a nuclear bomb blast over Manhattan, is set to conclude.

Then, as we learned earlier, April 26 is also when the entire Senate will be briefed by Donald Trump and his four top defense and military officials on the situation in North Korea at the White House, an event which Reuters dubbed as “unusual.”

April 26 is also when the USS Carl Vinson is expected to finally arrive off the coast of the Korean Penninsula.

Now, in a statement from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, the regional association reports that “law enforcement officials and other first responders will participate in a full-scale exercise on April 26 designed to prepare for the possibility of a complex coordinated terror attack in the National Capital Region.”

The statement adds that emergency managers who work together at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) planned the exercise to help protect residents by preparing for an attack involving multiple target locations and teams of perpetrators.

The exercise will be conducted across a widespread geographical area. According to the release, the regional exercise will be staged at six sites in the District of Columbia, suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia, and will involve hundreds of police, fire, and emergency medical service personnel and volunteer actors.”

Greetings,

Back in my military training days we had a mantra that went like this:
Leader – Led – Situation – Mission
Now, all of that mush was broken down into its bits and parts but this – Leader, Led, Situation & Mission was an excellent starting point in my never ending quest to figure out what the hell was going on and what the hell I was supposed to do. After all, ya gotta begin somewhere, right?

For just a quick moment, I wanna see if that can be applied to the new “militant” Left in any way and what the outcome of that might be.

1. Leadership The fake Antifa movement has self appointed leadership but it is hidden from view. Who or what is stirring up these people? True leadership requires a very heavy obligation to those that are being led. What binds the Leadership to the Led in this? These puppets have no clue as to who their puppet masters are. Leadership that wont come out from the shadows isn’t very good leadership at all.

2. Led Those being led appear to be more like a mob than an organized unit. A commander’s greatest fear is that of seeing his disciplined soldiers turned into a mob because that is when the fight is lost.

3. Situation The situation doesn’t look all that good for the Left as they riot and cause mayhem in areas they ALREADY control. (like a mob) This situation is made worse by the fact that the critical infrastructure they need in order to survive was not built to withstand rioting and mayhem. Next, water, food and energy are not produced or stored in the areas they control. The situation really calls for a siege mentality but these antifa believe themselves to be on the offensive which, again, makes no sense because they only control dense urban areas that produce very little of anything that has any value.

4. Mission The Mission does not appear to be well defined. I think this is because the leadership, which, after all, is nothing more than funding and propaganda, has not announced its goals. It could be any number of organizations stirring the pot and it wouldn’t surprise me if there were several competing Missions.

Without a defined mission, in an unwinnable situation with the worst of the worst for foot soldiers and leadership that hides in the shadows, I do not see how a new and improved militant Left is going to make any progress. I just do not see how.

Of course, none of this will stop them from destroying their own habitats.

The goal of the backers and organizers (Soros, La Raza, BLM, NEA, CPUSA?) has one goal- chaos. Communism’s low regard for the individual is on full display here. These cannon fodder are the useful idiots. After a revolution half of them would be put up against the wall as a prophylactic measure against “counter” revolution. Like Pasternak wrote in Dr. Zhivago “All men will be judged politically regardless of military record.”

My brotha told me one time that some snipers prefer to use 22 rifles as a tackdriver because of the lack of recoil. Although I can’t think of a time my bro ever lied to me, I never really vetted that claim. In any case, my friends will sometimes plink away with 22 rifles just for fun and because the ammo is cheap.

Regardless of the caliber, anyone who knows me realizes I don’t play around when it comes to accuracy. So, we duct tape an empty shotgun shell down range and shoot from the 75 yard bench. Upon my turn, my buddy hands me his ancient Mossberg that he had since high school and his son spots me. What’s cool about this rig is that is not a bolt-action. Instead, it’s a semi-auto with a ten round clip. After two shots with one windage calibration and re-adjust for drop on the scope, the 3rd time was the charm.

My friend’s son wanted to see if I could do it again and I told him: “Nope, that’s good enough for today”.

I now keep it on a shelf in my office. In retrospect, I wished I could have stolen your dad’s line.

Enjoyable piece, Francis.

22 lr has been used by snipers not because of its low recoil but because it can be effectively silenced and used with a very low profile engaging targets at 100 yards or less. With subsonic ammunition, it is “hollywood” quiet when using a suppressor. The Israeli’s have been known to use suppressed 22lr rifles in riot / crowd control situations for both disabling (e.g. knees) and kill (e.g. head or heart) shots.

Firearms are tools. If you use tools often you will become skilled and that ability will become like second nature. Our children have grown up around firearms and their safe handling and they may shoot whenever they want to. We keep them within easy reach for obvious reasons and we’ve never had any more trouble with a rifle than with a power saw or a cutting torch. My time in the military taught me far more about the maintenance and care of a weapon than in the actual business of using it against hostiles, but I have never forgotten any of it- including the latter.

Most of these people seem to be play-acting at defiance and anti- whatever it is they are against and when it comes down to it they will most likely give up on their quest in the face of any real resistance.

stories. My parents had a shooting hobby, and Dad built
beautiful rifles from parts ordered hither and yon.

Non- experienced would be shooters have no idea how
heavy rifles are and what recoil they deliver. That is why
shooters lay on their front-sides and prop their rifles.
Hand guns are heavy as well, and accuracy on the fly is a
movie myth. Talk is cheap, and would be warriors will
find that out. Rule # one = avoid the fight.

Edit add: It isn’t the black clothed masked front line people we have to worry about…it is the masked experienced
snipers in their midst. So don’t go there. Let them rant alone.

Absolutely. Not everyone in the military, or with military experience, is on our side. Their side will have ex-military guys, too! I can’t believe how casual some people are about the possibility of our current “cold civil war” going hot. It scares me to death.

Excellent post once again FM!! 286 grains, Daaaaannngg. Nice buck!!
We need to remember these kids have been conditioned on Call Of duty, and grand theft auto. If there is no laser pointer or a scope they might know how aim it. Then comes the nerve factor, the only thing ever killed was a basket of nuggets. They have no courage without a mob behind them. The idiot woman with the glove was trying to play on that man’s morality about hitting a lady, but after seeing stars from being suckerpunched, that thought was gone, and she ain’t no lady. It could have been another made for TV moment too. Sun Tzu says to know your opponent. Who knows how many people have been put in their place for not knowing rule #1.
This is the generations whom the state told their mommas they couldn’t hit them. They can’t handle being communicated to without losing it if they Can’t win the debate, let alone their opponents remaining calm. Old farts that can’t afford 3 minute rounds will find the knockout reeeeaaallll early, and queensbury rules will not apply

Who is buying their guns for them? Most young folks their age don’t have that kind of disposable income.

The shooters in the video wouldn’t know how to clear a double bolt over-ride…or even how to use SPORTS when a road isn’t fed into the chamber.Once one of these situations happened they’ll be like the French…they’ll drop their rifle and ruuuuuuun.

Fear these goofballs..nope .

Francis you’re right about one thing. I was born to hunt. I love to turkey hunt. It’s taught me how to sit motionless for an hour or more waiting for an ol’ gobbler . Or sitting on the ground with the wind in my favor while a big horn buck works his way to me in an acorn laden swamp.Have cleaned hundreds of deer I can attest to the carnage a bullet can do to flesh .

My mom believe or not is a crack shot..with a BB gun or a 22 rifle she cleans out the pigeons in no time around her house.

I didn’t check out the video looking for safety violations. I will almost bet Buckhed’s Turkey gun with 0000buck or #2s would probably put more lead on the paper not to mention knockdown power.
I agree about feeling sorry for them, dangerous yes. 100 yards, probably not. Under stress rofl. Can you imagine someone from out of town catching them waving a gun around recklessly. I think I will watch it again

There were several misses 4 feet in front of the target. A long time ago I threw knives at smaller target, at about that distance. I used to chase pop cans around farther than that with a wristrocket slingshot. It was a carefully staged video.
