The Iron Jaws of the Police State: Trump’s America Is a Constitution-Free Zone

Guest Post by John W. Whitehead

Please.

Somebody give Attorney General Jeff Sessions a copy of the Constitution.

And while you’re at it, get a copy to President Trump, too.

In fact, you might want to share a copy with the nation’s police officers, as well.

I have my doubts that any of these individuals—all of whom swore to uphold and defend the Constitution—have ever read any of the nation’s founding documents.

Had they actually read and understood the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights, there would be no militarized police, no mass surveillance, no police shootings of unarmed individuals, no SWAT team raids, no tasering of children, no asset forfeiture schemes or any of the other government-sanctioned abuses that get passed off as law and order these days.

Just take the policing crisis in this country, for instance.

Sessions—the chief lawyer for the government and the head of the Justice Department, which is entrusted with ensuring that the nation’s laws are faithfully carried out and holding government officials accountable to abiding by their oaths of office to “uphold and defend the Constitution”—doesn’t think we’ve got a policing problem in America.

In fact, Sessions thinks the police are doing a great job (apart from “the individual misdeeds of bad actors,” that is).

For that matter, so does Trump.

Really, really great.

Indeed, Sessions thinks the nation’s police forces are doing such a great job that they should be rewarded with more military toys (weapons, gear, equipment) and less oversight by the Justice Department.

Excuse me for a moment while I flush what remains of the Constitution down the toilet.

Clearly, Sessions has not been briefed on the fact that it has never been safer to be a cop in America. According to Newsweek, “It’s safer to be a cop than it is to be a fisher, logger, pilot, roofer, miner, trucker or taxi driver.”

You know what’s dangerous?

Being a citizen of the American police state.

Treating cops as deserving of greater protections than their fellow citizens.

And training cops to think and act like they’re soldiers on a battlefield.

As journalist Daniel Bier warns, “If you tell cops over and over that they’re in a war, they’re under siege, they’re under attack, and that citizens are the enemy—instead of the people they’re supposed to protect—you’re going to create an atmosphere of fear, tension, and hostility that can only end badly, as it has for so many people.”

Frankly, if there’s a war taking place in this country, it’s a war on the American people.

After all, we’re the ones being shot at and tasered and tracked and beaten and intimidated and threatened and invaded and probed.

And what is the government doing to fix this policing crisis that threatens the safety of man, woman and child in this country?

Not a damn thing.

Incredibly, according to a study by the American Medical Association, police-inflicted injuries send more than 50,000 Americans to hospital emergency rooms every year.

Yet as Slate warns, if you even dare to criticize a police officer let alone challenge the myth of the hero cop—a myth “used to legitimize brutality as necessary, justify policies that favor the police, and punish anyone who dares to question police tactics or oppose the unions’ agendas”— you will be roundly denounced “as disloyal, un-American, and dangerous.”

As reporter David Feige concludes, “We should appreciate the value and sacrifice of those who choose to serve and protect. But that appreciation should not constitute a get-out-of-jail-free card for the vast army of 800,000 people granted general arrest powers and increasingly armed with automatic weapons and armored vehicles.”

The fact that police are choosing to fatally resolve encounters with their fellow citizens by using their guns speaks volumes about what is wrong with policing in America today, where police officers are being dressed in the trappings of war, drilled in the deadly art of combat, and trained to look upon “every individual they interact with as an armed threat and every situation as a deadly force encounter in the making.”

Mind you, the federal government is the one responsible for turning our police into extensions of the military, having previously distributed billions of dollars’ worth of military equipment to local police agencies, including high-powered weapons, assault vehicles, drones, tactical gear, body armor, weapon scopes, infrared imaging systems and night-vision goggles—equipment intended for use on the battlefield—not to mention federal grants for militarized training and SWAT teams.

Thus, despite what Attorney General Sessions wants you to believe, the daily shootings, beatings and roadside strip searches (in some cases, rape) of American citizens by police are not random occurrences, accidents or isolated, anecdotal examples of a few bad actors.

Rather, as I make clear in my book Battlefield America: The War on the American People, this is what happens when you allow so-called “law and order” to matter more than justice: corruption flourishes, injustice reigns and tyranny takes hold.

Yet no matter what Trump and Session seem to believe, nowhere in the Constitution does it say that Americans must obey the government.

Despite the corruption of Congress and the complicity of the courts, nowhere does the Constitution require absolute subservience to the government’s dictates.

And despite what most police officers seem to believe, nowhere does the Constitution state that Americans must comply with a police order.

To suggest otherwise is authoritarianism.

This is also, as abolitionist Frederick Douglass noted, the definition of slavery: “I didn’t know I was a slave until I found out I couldn’t do the things I wanted.”

You want to know what it means to be a slave in the American police state?

It means being obedient, compliant and Sieg Heil!-ing every government agent armed with a weapon. If you believe otherwise, try standing up for your rights, being vocal about your freedoms, or just challenging a government dictate, and see how long you last before you’re staring down the barrel of a loaded government-issued gun.

Just another effect of too much Government. Government exists now to perpetuate itself, and the employees / unions of such exist for their own ends, not any civic duty. If you keep that in mind, whenever dealing with a government employee, it will server you well. The ‘hero in blue’ nonsense is just sheeple being told by the teevee to hero worship authoritarianism.

You know who had some concrete suggestions for improving policing (lessening brutality)? Shaun King. Yes, the white guy who went to Morehouse and pretends to be black. He’s a big lib and therefore wrong on many things (including the fake narratives of Trayvon and Mike Brown), but he has insights. Some – not all – of his 25 suggestions make sense. https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/shaun-king-25-practical-steps-solutions-to-the-police-brutality-issue.2487331/

If the politicians are not going to stop passing stupid and superfluous laws, then the people must treat those laws as if they do not exist and have the courage to stand up to the ensuing legal battle. I know it is not a practical option for all and much harder said than done, but we have to start nullifying bad laws.

I love jury duty. I have figured out on two occasions that I am quite persuasive in the ‘jury room’ and that jury nullification is a great weapon. It is amazing how DA’s tend to kiss your ass as a juror if they think their case may be going sideways due to an awake, educated citizen…..
I recommend that anyone that cares about actually doing something about this nonsense, don’t make up an excuse to not go to jury duty because it is ‘inconvenient’. Trust me, you will actually have real power and be able to blunt this police state nonsense in a real way….
Been there, and can testify first hand that it is gratifying, and feels good to tip the scale once in a while on the side of liberty. Why do you suppose so many people just fold like a cheap lawn chair when going to trial for the plea bargain. Because they figure the jury is a bunch of sheep. DA’s count on this, and so do the thugs in blue.
All it takes is one voice of reason to wake some sheep, and when they are awoke, then the fun starts. Ask questions of the judge / DA. Question the circumstances of evidence. Ask to see testimony not necessarily ‘presented’ at trial. That is YOUR RIGHT as a juror, and ANY DA that attempts to object then immediately puts the jurors in to suspicion mode, and from there you can pick it apart, piece by piece. Ultimately, it is YOUR decision as a jury who wins. That is still the ultimate equalizer in our just – us system.

This is true but be careful if you are from the communist state of NJ. They are on the look out for jury nullifiers. They have a questionnaire, which if answered entirely honestly will get you dismissed before you even started.

This has been jumping off of the pages at me lately. I started noticing how bad my party promotes the less rights, police state thing. Isn’t this TREASON?? There is a movie with Depp wahlberg Martin Sheen, and Damon, and Depp is interviewing for Massachusetts state police, and looking at his IQ Sheen tells Depp he can’t be a trooper because he is too smart, he should be a rocket scientist. I also read where this feller tries to get into police dept. in California, and couldn’t because IQ was too high. It seems to me they don’t want cops smart enough to debate and diffuse situations. They want compliance through fear and intimidation.
Debra Dupree wrote the only follow-up of pipeline protesters. It entailed huge overwhelming force with media silence. The only mainstream coverage was about how big the mess was after being forcefully removed, and unable to clean anything. North Dakota is one state pushing real hard for police drones. If we don’t start fighting back hard, it will be too late.

Funny thing, what you just described reminds me of how the public school system works here in California too! Yes-men and women…anyone who questions things is not a “team player” and is shunned!

While watching YouTube vids of Russian police strong arming the public in Russia, I thought how we have been moving to the same sort of police state here. Mr. Whitehead is correct and the starry eyed voting citizens here in the US are giving them permission to continue building the soviet model prison right here in the USA!USA!USA!.

Those of you who know I had a recent “run-in” with the local police (Cape Girardeau, Missouri, just down the road from the Limbaugh Law Firm) will not be surprised to learn that upon further investigation, I’ve found more than a DOZEN folks who were tossed into the slammer for no other reason that they could be tossed there. One business-woman was strip-searched and kept in a Psych Watch lockup for 24 hours, when all she did was demand to call her attorney. Just like my telling a cop I was on my way TO my attorney’s office and here is his business card, her request was not a valid one in the cops “opinion.” I ended up on the concrete in handcuffs when I called the cop bad names and said I was going to WALK there and then come back with him to SUE their asses.

I think I was probably very, very lucky my incident occurred on a public street within a block of the local VFW, causing at least a dozen old gentleman warriors to come out and watch me berate more policemen than seems warranted by a 55-year-old woman trying to walk through a neighborhood, pissed because the cops were having an illegal search and seizure party near campus, generating revenue for seat belts and any other planted evidence they could plant. And, I am lucky my husband managed to get to me with my “get out of jail free” card aka a card that explains I’m an adult onset Hydrocephalic which seems to explain psychotic behavior to idiots. (Of course, it does NOT cause psychotic behavior, but it does excuse a lot of things. To idiots.)

In another incident, a friend’s daughter managed to pull into a local car repairman’s home to ask about getting work done on her car just minutes before the cops arrived to search and seize his meth lab equipment and even though it was obvious she was NOT part of his home/shop, she was arrested when the police searched her car for the third time and “found” a little pipe. My friend rushed to bail her out, but was told she had to be in lockup for FIVE days. Why? Because they can apparently. My friend had her daughter drug tested while in the jail to show evidence she was “clean” at her trial, but do any of you believe that will make a difference?

I will be sitting my ass in my car quietly during the next “papers please” stop and not trying to prove or pretend I have any rights. Now that I know I don’t, it seems prudent to shut my big mouth.

The only rights we have are those we can take through force of persuasion. I’ve said that twice on here before and got a lot of down thumbs. I thought it was obvious. Who better to initiate Martial Law than Trump. Whether it’s done by looking the other way or officially doesn’t change the effect.

You are correct. You have no rights. If you are a US citizen, you have no protection from the Constitution. It’s because you don’t know whereof you are a citizen. If you want to know, go study these two articles. But I bet you won’t.

Hey I See! Yes, the current system is based on the false belief that we are all US Citizens. No argument. The problem is that The Powers That Be refuse to obey the law, they are not interested in the law, and they have more and bigger guns than you do. More importantly, they are willing to use those guns on YOU for little or no reason.

Consider this analogy. Genghis Khan’s army has surrounded your village and demands surrender and all the cattle. Do it peacefully and he will just take your cattle and move on to the next village. Fight him and he will kill everyone, burn the village and THEN take the cattle. What do you do? Do you tell him (respectfully or not) “You have no right to MY cattle, therefore I refuse, you cannot take them!”?

Our various governments have gone rogue. They do not respect the law. Our politicians, judges, military and legal authorities are like the army of Genghis Khan; they are criminals who refuse to obey the law. What do you do?

You are correct that you and I are NOT US Citizens. You and I are victims of a criminal gang with overwhelming force. Any appeal to them that they obey the law will not work. A general refusal of We The People would stop the gang — but a refusal of scattered individuals will only get those individuals killed. There are not enough people interested in freedom, not yet. The time may (maybe) come, but it is not here yet.

I believed that standing up for one’s constitutional right would hold one up in court. Now, I realize it won’t even ensure you GET to court.

We have an active crew agitating for the return of Nazi Germany here in the states. They offer articles which they say will awaken you to the truth as they see it. They never mention the dead, many millions who were disappeared in the deportations, since they have effectively denied the gas chambers and pooh-poohed the holocaust myth, they have swept away the dead. The photos of dead bodies stacked or lying in the open are mere figments of our lying eyes. These neo-Nazis have the truth, their version of the truth that fits these times.

I don’t doubt these fools are ready, willing and able to travel as itinerant killers. They itch to round up minorities and shoot them on the spot. Once the country gets over he shock, they can gear up, industrialize the death machine; making the nation safe for white women, blonde white women, virgin blonde white women who haven’t had black dick. Ann Coulter, OK? They wish to worship Ann Coulter.

Three score and several years ago our white fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Purity, and dedicated to the proposition that all white men are created more equal.

Hey El Coyote!

You say, “We have an active crew agitating for the return of Nazi Germany here in the states.”

Maybe yes, maybe no. If there is, it is because a growing number of people have come to the conclusion that singing kumbayah did not make everyone live together peacefully. Yes, crime and low achievement happen in all races and economic levels, but any objective look will confirm that they are concentrated in certain demographic groups. I ask this sincerely, how would you protect the more peaceful part of our nation from the more violent and more dependent?

I assume your question is rhetorical. I read somewhere that one should answer the question that wasn’t asked.

The business of America is war. To this end, the country needs people willing to go to war out of necessity. It is good policy to keep the smart and peaceful folks close to home. So we have a group to be educated and a group to be sacrificed to the god of war.

If we could isolate the groups, it would be more quiet. But the cannon-fodder looks at the sheep and wishes it could live that way. Some folks like Kanye are allowed to live large to give the rest hope if nothing else. They are token blacks. Black folk envy them, white folks hate them for living large; better than white folks even.

These niggers make lots of money for their masters who keep them on a short leash of drugs and whores. The sheep work steady for low pay which is heavily taxed to pay the token blacks and to keep the cannon-fodder mollified.

Arguing over race keeps the sheep and cannon-fodder from directing their anger at the people in control. The so-called illegals invasion was/is a distraction. Since nobody reads anymore, reality TV provides the illusion of prosperity necessary to keep the sheep working.

This is the modern system. The problems it creates is also part of the program. If you don’t agree with my outlook, please paint me a better scenario.
