TBP recently had the pleasure of experiencing the brilliant arrival of a new commenter and then contributor to the site. HollyO posted an extremely profound comment on a thread which blew everyone away. After reading it, I encouraged her to post an article and made her a TBP contributor. We had uncovered another profound new voice. She already had her own website and has written dozens of books. It was clear she was a true artist and she would surely be a tremendous asset to TBP going forward.
It is rare for a TBP article to breach the 100 comment mark. He first excellent article reached 102 comments. But, her second very provocative article reached 248 comments and was picked up by a number of other websites. I and many others couldn’t wait to see what was coming next. And then I received the following email from HollyO:

If you are reading this you must remember that the ‘fire brands’ you read here are, for the most part, nothing more than average everyday people just like you and we are all vulnerable in a variety of ways. In fact what I have come to realize over the years is that the thing that makes us the most vulnerable is in fact love. Wives, husbands, children, parents, all of them make us extremely vulnerable and those who act daily in the interest of destroying what once made our civilization what it was (imperfections and all) are happy to prey upon that weakness.
What we have to ask ourselves is simply this: what is my life worth against the future of my civilization, of the world of my children’s children?
It is a question I ask myself daily, and it has driven me to desire less of ‘things’ and more of ‘quality’; more time with those I love and more time to do the things I love. I desire these things not because there is a void but because I sense that time is running out. Time is running out because the people who have threatened you are growing bolder and more dangerous by the day. They force those of us who desire peace to think the unthinkable. I am not a violent man, I never have been but I see now where this is headed, whether I like it or not.
When I was a younger guy I dreamed of a retirement filled with children, grandchildren and weekends spent on the lake, at the cottage and wandering the mountains. I think to some degree those dreams will never be a reality because of the world those who threatened you have made.
So for now I desire quality from my life, because I believe the moment is approaching when there will be none available for any of us. At least for a time.
So find a way and make yourself heard. That goes for everyone here.

Many years ago there was a post about some guy in Chatham NJ who turned his neighbor in for illegally growing tomatoes, or some such bullshit complaint. Stuck made a sarcastic comment about beating the shit out of the guy. Everyone knew it was just internet humor.
The asshole read the comment and filed a complaint with the Chatham Police. They contacted me and asked who Stuck in NJ was. I told them I didn’t know who anyone was on the site. They were all anonymous. Somehow they got his IP address and traced it to him.
They then called him into the station for an interrogation.
Ever since, whenever we want to bust Stuck’s balls we comment under Chatham Police.
Has that been ONGOING all this time? Good God! How much insanity can we “normal” people take before something blows?
They never brought charges against Stuck, but they tried to intimidate and scare him.
I got a lesson in how that feels. Face down, handcuffed. They took my documents from me… the items I was taking to my LAWYER’S office by foot since their illegal traffic stop was going to delay my getting there.

It is unfortunate. The couple of articles she posted were eloquent and simple, to the point. I do, however, understand her thoughts. Dealing with critics in entertainment is tough enough, the jibes and barbs intentionally fired off by those with no drive or talent that have never completed anything in their lives. Eventually a sort of skin is developed but even to prevent the emotional angst that comes with the negativity it is easier to create separate lines of communications that do not have to be looked at but give the critics and avenue to fire off their commentary.
For someone that is anonymous for the most part to suddenly be thrust onto the stage…well simply putting thoughts on paper is often tough, having them read tougher, but now being center stage for all seemingly by yourself, it is down right terrifying. Being in the UK where police raid houses in the middle of the night I am sure this adds an entire degree of terror that most in the US (as of yet) havent experienced. So I understand. There is no anonymity that “THEY” can not dig out, no wealth They cannot confiscate, no lives They cannot take.
Here in the US we have blatantly seen extremely questionable deaths of those that question the narrative, disappearances of journalists, muggings, car crashes and “heart attacks”. Worse, just because most TBP’ers have similar values we, like most people, are afflicted with a very dangerous bias called Complementary Projection where we think more people share our values and beliefs than really do. I’ve researched and written several articles on what I consider some of our most dangerous biases. It was easy because there’s a lot of information on them.
Yet one of the most difficult articles I ever wrote was the one on Complementary Projection Bias because, despite its danger, there’s almost NOTHING available about it. It’s almost as if we aren’t supposed to know about it.

Every day I drive to work I look around and see thousands of people, few of whom would ever get along as well here as you or anyone else that posts here do. The one thing TBP commenters and posters generally have in common is a relatively thick skin and an ability to tolerate ideas they disagree with, sometimes vehemently.
In terms of the general public, after almost 20 years in the Pop Tart business, I have come to realize that I cannot assume everyone walking through my doors shares my political views just because they like the same kind of filling as me. Hell, I’d put money on the possibility that a quarter of my customers voted hard left in the last local election.
Large groups of people are simple but people are complicated. It is why this whole thing will get real messy at some stage. Jimminy Crickets, even the damn STM’s in this joint don’t get along half the time. And when they do, someone usually bitches things are getting too cozy and throws a pile just to mix it up a bit. And I consider this place many degrees more civilized than the real world.
The social mood needs to swing a lot more for people like us to be seen by the general public as anything more than racist, misogynistic, chicken littles. That shift is happening but it is still in its infant stages. Much more pain and suffering will have to come before the system can be torn down. And that pain is coming on a variety of fronts. At this stage, all we are, are canaries in a coal mine trying not to choke out before it is too late.

Stuckey, we have made two trips to Ecuador in the last four years, the last one just this January, to explore the option of retiring there. On the last trip we even met with a visa attorney to get the exact requirements for immigration (so I think I know what I’m talking about here)
Ultimately we decided against it for a variety of reasons, none of them related to the language problem.

I hope Holly is still reading and will post again with greater anonymity. I also left the US for a number of years, and went through a similar “lifting of the veil”. I thought Europeans were crazy to have dozens of newspapers, each sponsored by a party. Noo. In America, we have “real” journalism, where they tell you the who, what , when where, why.. like we were taught in school!! As Waco did Holly, 9/11 disabused me of that notion and many others I had had about the country I grew up in.

I spent much of my professional life fighting leftist terrorists and their political supporters. Salvador Allende was a hard-core Marxist elected president in Chile (with a minority vote, about 35 percent). He very nearly turned Chile into another Cuba before the army stopped him, but it was a close thing. The army was always totally anti-Communist but up until very nearly the end it obeyed Allende’s orders. Do not count on the military to do anything. They might but they very well might not. Only the American people will save this nation.

A tip should you decide to stay and post – skip the English prose. Here in backwater America, we have managed to mangle the English language beyond recognition. Example, the word favorite is spelled, well, favorite, not favourite. Another example, which is a favourite (heh) of mine. When a young American man seeks a date with a woman, he does NOT say, “I’ll knock you up.” That usually results in a reddened cheek. With that obvious point said, NEVER talk to the police (especially ones from NJ). I know our natural inclination is to be nice and talk our way out of a given situation, but always politely refuse to cooperate. If they call and ask you for something or show up at your house, politely refuse to provide any information and politely ask them to step back beyond the perimeter of your property — unless they have a warrant. If they have a warrant, all bets are off, and you will probably be forced to hire some scumbag attorney.
True. Answer a question with a question if you can’t keep quiet, such as “what can I tell you?” Don’t voluntary go down to a police station/office/whatever to answer questions. Ask them, “Am I under arrest?” They’ll say, “Do you want to be?” Answer, “What can I tell you?”
Cops will want you to talk to them without your being under arrest, so that you won’t have a lawyer. Don’t answer anything without a lawyer. If that means getting arrested, that’s better than talking to them and giving them something to hang you with before they arrest you.
The cops are not your friends and they are not there to protect you. Fuck ’em and feed ’em fish heads.
