It’s easy to tell when someone is intelligent or stupid because they are consistent; people in between can have some brilliant ideas and some dumb ones (I have have had some real beauties).

My TI, Sgt Pangloss said, you’re trying to get through life without getting burned.

It isn’t possible to escape the dumb ideas, it takes wisdom to recognize them.

A blind person who sees is better than a seeing person who is blind.

Can wisdom come from a youtube? Maybe

Tell me I’ll forget. Show me I’ll remember. Involve me and I will understand.

The difference between wisdom and intelligence is remarkable. Better to use to the fullest what God gave you, than have so much and never use it.

Wisdom comes from Rhetoric, and is the Lost Goddess, Sophia, part of the TRIUNE GOD of the Gnostics, called the TRIVIUM. Therefore, you cannot achieve Wisdom, without utilizing the intellect (the gray matter between your ears) in conjunction with the TRIVIUM: 1) Grammar, 2) Logic, 3) Rhetoric.

“Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise” – attributed to Ben Franklin.

Good practices precede wisdom; wisdom is not dependent on smarts. Avoiding the tavern or pub is salubrious and thrifty. It follows then that, “The early morning has gold in its mouth” because getting up early gives a person the advantage of the news in the mouth of the morning.

EC, That quote is my second favorite Franklinism First one is ‘We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.’

The early to bed, early to rise quote reminds me of ecclesiastes ‘For in much wisdom there is much grief, and increasing knowledge results in increasing sorrows.’

The more I learn about this fucked up world and it’s sick twisted rulers the more I get the sadz.

Intellect is ability.

Wisdom is the application of ability guided by values.

Someone who has bad ideas but has integrity, you can engage them regarding their ideas and perhaps change their views towards good ideas. However, if they lack integrity any dialogue is useless. The later describes Progressives.

He could be talking about my creepy brother-in-law. Now a retired academian(sp?), talking with him has always been quite the chore. Obviously he has a high IQ but so what? All it’s seems to afford him is a hyper condescending perch from which he can rain down judgments on us pee-ons.

Honestly, the last time I attempted a conversation with him was in the run up to the 2000 election. Discussing the candidates, I happen to say I liked Dan Quayle but realized W would probably prevail & I’d vote for him. He looked at at me and said, “Oh the shrub?”

He lives in Chicago and has this attitude about owning a weapon for self defense, that’s what the police are for. Yikes.

As for getting up early, man you should see the moon this morning! The whole neighborhood is lit up, it’s gorgeous. I sure don’t get people sleeping in until 6 or 7. By then, I’ve checked my kilns, been to the gym, had several meals and have my day well under way.

While sunrises here in w Texas can be quite colorful, I sure miss the ones in the mountains in CO. I really do think I’m going back.

He’s a very persuasive speaker and getting better at keeping the frame.

I did notice that while he paid a form of lip service to “blue collar workers” there was this built in tinge of deprecation.

There are extremely intelligent people who become academics and ones who go another route. You cannot turn knowledge into wisdom without experience. Doing is the key. That allows you to test your premises and suppositions against the ultimate authority- reality.

Over the Summer I watched interns go from being classroom taught college students into real world experienced adults. it didn’t happen because I told them things, it happened because they actually did them. Their preconceptions and indoctrination wore off day after day as they came up against the exigencies of what is as opposed to what should be. It was fascinating to watch them develop the skills, confidence and in some cases even a little bit of wisdom as they went about their daily routines. One of the best moments was watching one of the young men who had spent his entire life in the inner city walking a herd of cows to their paddock for the night. The way he walked, his pacing perfectly matched to the cows, his calm voice calling to them in the same sing-song way I’d shown him, all of it was transcendent and timeless because it flowed from a place of knowing.

I’ll take wisdom over intelligence every time.

Perhaps wisdom is knowing the limits of intelligence? I can do the math, but unless I was the last person available I would not design a bridge. Nor a boat, nor (certainly!) an airplane. Things that people are going to depend on with their lives should be designed by those who are competent in the skills and art, not someone with only book knowledge.
On the other hand, I would be a phenomenal bootlegger; I could also probably rig up a plant to make fertilizers, household chemicals, basics like nitric and sulfuric acid (assuming the catalysts are available). They probably wouldn’t be state-of-the-art (unless automation was available also), but they would get the job done, in small-to-medium amounts, as long as the raw materials and equipment held out / were replaceable.
A man’s gotta know his limitations – and exceed them when circumstances demand it.

I can’t watch the vid …. the computers here at the library have turned off the sound button. Soooo, I can’t really comment, except to give an example. Me.

I have the intelligence to know all the potential health risks that comes with smoking my cigars. I lack the wisdom to not light it.

Wisdom is overrated, Ignorance is Bliss.

Quote:RiNS

I have been laying random flagstone for the past week. I have come to conclude that it is much like life. For first couple of days I tried using logic and wisdom to fit pieces together. Did I mention it is random. Slow going.

So I decided it was time for a different strategy. Now I lay a few rocks then drink a few beers.

Seems to be working a whole lot better.

I should! It would be excellent tribute to a most gracious Gawd!

A Shrine celebrating my Norse Heritage.. Ole BB would have a meltdown for shure.

I might even do a post about this. This project is a metaphor for my life. Random bits strewn creating a mosaic and a pathway that ends up at the woodshed.

Most definitely Odin would approve of the use of rock.

Yours in Odin,

A Most Deplorable RiNS.

Time for another Beer!
