FUNCTIONAL ILLITERATES TRYING TO ERASE HISTORY

Written in August 2017 when the leftists first started pulling down statues. It applies perfectly again today. My conclusions stand.

“True patriotism sometimes requires of men to act exactly contrary, at one period, to that which it does at another, and the motive which impels them the desire to do right is precisely the same.” Robert E. Lee

I consider myself a student of history. I’ve always been fascinated by the personalities who drove events throughout history. I probably would have been a history major in college if I didn’t feel the need to make enough money to support myself and my family. I chose a business major and decided studying history would be my hobby. Over the years I’ve taken a particular interest in the Civil War. You could even call me a Civil War buff.

I’ve probably read 60 books on the Civil War, from Bruce Catton, Shelby Foote and numerous other historians. I’ve visited the Gettysburg battlefield a half dozen times, as it is only 150 miles from my home. My basement office is decorated with six prints depicting various scenes from the Civil War. One depicts Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson at Fredericksburg, another depicts Jackson leading his troops through Richmond, another depicts Grant taking command of Union forces, another shows Chamberlain leading the charge down Little Round Top, another portrays Lee and Longstreet making the fateful decision to send Pickett’s men on their futile charge into history, and the last showing the slaughter during Pickett’s charge.

I’ve even taken an executive education course in leadership where the final day is a trip to Gettysburg where a park ranger guides you through the three day battle and the professor asks you to assess the leadership shown by officers on both sides during that tide turning battle. My fascination with the Civil War isn’t based on rooting for one side or the other. I wanted to understand the motivations of the main characters and understand why and how they fought that bloody war. There were so many fateful decisions, errors of judgement, acts of courage, acts of cowardice, brilliantly bold maneuvers, and just plain good and bad luck.

Robert E. Lee, before the outbreak of the war, was overwhelmingly regarded as the finest military mind in the U.S. army. Winfield Scott offered him command of all Union forces at the outbreak of hostilities. But he chose allegiance to his state of Virginia, rather than the Federal government. He didn’t fight for slavery. He freed his slaves. He was fighting for states’ rights. He was an honorable God fearing noble man. Stonewall Jackson was an extremely religious man who waged war with a passion, but also taught Sunday School to slaves. Lee and Jackson must be viewed in the context of the 19th century rather than being judged by the standards of the 21st century.

The vast majority of Confederate soldiers who did the fighting and dying during that war didn’t own slaves. They weren’t fighting to maintain slavery. They were fighting because a foreign army had invaded their land. In 1860 this nation was more an amalgamation of states than a centralized government. States still had a tremendous amount of power and leeway to run their states the way they chose. The ever increasing power of a central authority occurred during and after the Civil War. The South were not the bad guys. Their leaders, generals and soldiers were not evil. They were Americans.

The revisionist history now being peddled by the left wing media and their non-thinking acolytes lacks a factual basis, historical context and a true understanding of history. The Civil War was the climax of decades of tension between the North and the South over states’ rights, economic policies, slavery, and a myriad of other complex issues. Examined within the context of generational theory, it was a Fourth Turning that was unavoidable. It was a crucial important event in U.S. history. It wasn’t the shameful episode portrayed by the brain dead faux journalists babbling on CNN and MSNBC.

Illegally pulling down statues of Confederate soldiers and taking videos of “brave” unemployed liberal arts major social justice warriors kicking the Confederate soldier is what passes for activism in today’s warped society. Liberal mayors and city councils across the south are falling all over themselves wasting time and taxpayer money to remove statues of Confederate generals to appease the left and make a display of how anti-racist they can be. Meanwhile, their cities are bankrupt, their infrastructure is decaying, black crime is rampant and their education systems matriculate functionally illiterate deranged snowflakes into society.

Image result for toppled statue durham nc Image result for toppled statue durham nc

These courageous left wing politicians, like the mayor of New Orleans, have statues removed in the middle of the night to avoid protests by those who understand you cannot erase history by removing statues and names. In a hysterical development, Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh on Monday said in a statement she intended to move forward in removing several city statutes, including those of Lee and Stonewall Jackson. I suppose the soaring murder rate, blacks rioting and burning down neighborhoods, crumbling infrastructure, failing schools, and white flight is due to a few Confederate statues. It’s good to see this diverse mayor has her priorities in order.

The ignorance and disregard for history knows no bounds for generations taught to feel rather think in our government run indoctrination centers known as public schools. The left wing media reinforces their ignorance with misinformation, fake news and government sanctioned propaganda. Snowflakes across the land melt at anything they are instructed to find offensive. Everything and everyone who doesn’t agree with their half baked views are declared racists.

Pointing out that leftist antifa thugs, without permits to protest, initiated the violence in Charlottesville is racist. The uproar against Trump’s truthful assessment of the situation by CNN, MSNBC and Fox proves there isn’t a wit of difference among these corporate media outlets. True colors are revealed. The ongoing coup attempt against Trump continues unabated.

Trump’s impromptu press conference and his push back of this false narrative was a thing of beauty. The hypocrisy of the left and their utter contempt for facts must be thrown back in their faces at every opportunity. Across the country, 718 Confederate monuments and statues remain, with nearly 300 of them in Georgia, Virginia or North Carolina. There are also 109 public schools named for Robert E. Lee, Confederate President Jefferson Davis or other icons of the Civil War-era South. Will the left be satisfied when all 718 monuments are destroyed and all 109 schools are renamed Oprah Winfrey Middle School? No. They will find something else to be offended about, and violently attack again.

The funniest part about watching these social justice warriors wail and gnash their teeth about the racism of these monuments is knowing these unemployed functional illiterates couldn’t tell you when the Civil War occurred, name two major battles, name five generals, provide a death count within 250,000, or fill in the blank in the phrase Surrender at __________. They don’t know jack shit about history, the Civil War, Lincoln’s true feelings about blacks, or the fact the Democratic Party is the party which suppressed blacks for one hundred years following the Civil War. Only truly ignorant snowflakes think they can erase history by protesting it and trying to destroy monuments to those who fought and died for a cause they believed in.

Do these left wing zealots have any sense of awareness? Maybe they were too busy studying for their gender studies finals to see the reports of the Taliban destroying ancient Buddhist monuments in territory they had captured. Zealots, terrorists, and extremists attempt to destroy symbols that offend them as a way to prove their strength and power. In reality, they destroy what others have built in a feckless effort to boost their self-esteem. Intellectual lightweights attempt to bring others down because they realize their lack of intelligence and inability to get ahead in life has to be blamed on someone else.

The man who helped blow up the Bamiyan Buddhas - BBC News

If these social justice warrior weaklings were transported back in time 154 years to the Gettysburg battlefield where real men displayed real courage and bravery, they would be covered in their own urine cowering behind a tree as Pickett’s charge commenced. Could you imagine any of the Soros paid professional antifa protestors charging across an open field towards certain death? Those pussies would be high tailing it south as fast as their fashion designer sneakers would take them.

Trump was absolutely correct in asking, “Where does it end?” Washington owned slaves. Do we get rid of all dollar bills and quarters? Do we change the name of our capital? Do we change the name of Washington & Lee University to Obama & Spike Lee University? Do we blow up the Washington Memorial? Jefferson owned slaves. Do we get rid of nickles? How about the Jefferson Memorial?

Why stop only in our country? The Egyptian pyramids were built by slaves. Should we tear those down? If these are symbols of hatred and racism that must be destroyed, why do we never hear calls from the left for the destruction of the Nazi death camps. Talk about symbols of hate. Why would we want to remember the holocaust? It couldn’t be that it doesn’t fit the left’s narrative.

This Confederate monument narrative is designed by the left to provoke a backlash from whites who are tired of being scorned, ridiculed, belittled and called racists, rednecks and deplorables by so called open minded progressives. It’s working. The cold race war is beginning to turn hot. The president has no intention of trying to bring the two sides together because it’s impossible at this point. That’s how Fourth Turnings roll. The mood of the country will continue to darken. Reactions to these types of events will intensify. More blood will be shed. It’s too bad these functional illiterates didn’t pay attention in history class or ever read a book. They are going to learn some harsh lessons over the next decade.

“We’re doomed to repeat the past no matter what. That’s what it is to be alive. It’s pretty dense kids who haven’t figured that out by the time they’re ten.”Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Hi all,
been reading this article and the comments with much interest. I’m British and we’ve been experiencing some of the same insanity here. Theatres renamed and statues removed at the baying demands of “students” that saying they have an IQ of 60 would be generous. The irony here, again is that these frankly dangerous morons know zero history. As a brit I feel proud that it was this country was a large factor that ended slavery, for everyone. Well apart from backwards places like Saudi Arabia, the lefts buddies, where slavery was legal till 1963 and still goes on, because of you know what. They know nothing about the West Africa Squadron, the Blockade of Africa (yes the entire continent). The know nothing about Islam’s shameful involvement, in Africa or Africans involvement in the slave trade, centuries before any white European set foot there. Learn from you history, be proud.

Great points admin . If you haven’t already read Sherman’s memoirs , they’re well worth the time.
Uncle Willie gave his all, including a beloved son to defeat what he considered a treasonous South only at the end of the war to have his reputation besmirched by cowardly SJWs and parasitic bureaucrats armchair generaling post War of Northern Aggression. He was even accused of racism for not doing enough to for negroes even though totally involved in waging war against the Southern people.
One thing gleaned from reading Sherman’s tale was that the South, prior to seizing Fort Sumter, had already taken control of several Federal forts and armories in the deep South with no repercussions. It wasn’t until the seizing of Fort Sumter that the Union bit back. The South, falsely thinking the North wouldn’t fight, foolishly overplayed their hand. Also of note, Sherman was banker before the war and from his words we gather that he was a quite wise and successful one at that. Imagine a competent banker turns accomplished killer. Why it’s just unheard of.

If you haven’t read and so desire, the book is here :

Thanks again for a great essay. We’re all Southerners now.

Jefferson Davis Was Right

Jefferson Davis, one of America’s greatest statesmen, said that a question settled by violence would inevitably arise again, though at a different time and in a different form.

And what, you might well ask, is a Jeffersonian Democrat? He’s a person who hasn’t forgotten that the sovereign states created the federal government, not the reverse, as some today seem to assume. He believes that what the Constitution created was a republic of sovereign states, and that the carefully limited powers assigned to the federal government were all the powers it had, in peace or in war. He believes the Constitution is a binding contract, not a rubbery document that can mean anything a judge or a politician says it means. He believes in a system of checks and balances. In short, he believes in the Declaration of Independence.

That document, you might recall, says that the only purpose of government is to protect rights already granted by God, and that when a government fails to protect those rights and begins to abuse them, the people have the right to alter or overthrow it. “

Functional illiterates trying to erase history COUNTERED BY Functional illiterates trying to defend history

The Alamo was a hoaxed event. Now a bunch of geniuses are barricading it and defending a monument to a hoax. This is akin to the Goombas in Philly protecting the Columbus statue.

The Mexican war poisoned America and Columbus was spice speculator from the friggin’ 1400s.

All wars are about loot and political power. Consider that Ft Sumpter, fired on first by Citadel Cadets (my son is a proud Citadel grad) was where the federal government levied taxes on southern shipments of goods that were used to finance northern infrastructure.

Battles and Leaders of the Civil War (4 Volume Set) Hardcover – Box set, January 1, 1956
by Robert Underwood Johnson (Editor)

Great first hand accounts of battles by people there, many un-heard stories such as the shelling of the Confederate Hospital in Shepardstown after the battle of Sharpsburg, Maryland.

I fondly remember my HS history classes. I had a wonderful teacher who truly loved history and even more loved teaching it.
He held back nothing. We heard Nazi war songs during our classes on WW 2.
But what made him a great teacher is not that he taught the FACTS of a war, or part of history, but he asked us to contemplate and expound on what we thought of each side’s motivation.
Of course this was a long time ago, almost another planet, of the late 80s- early 90s when there was no political correctness or hurt feelings.
During our Civil War classes I remember him telling us not everything is black and white, both figuratively and symbolically, about this war.
He made us think about what other motivations each side had in engaging in this war.
We also had to write an essay on whether or not we believed slavery would have ended without their being a war, to which I absolutely wrote YES.
Slaves were starting to outnumber their white masters and controllers. Many forward-thinking slave owners taught their slaves to read and do arithmetic, as these tended to be better workers and happier by far.
Many slave holders kept families together.
These two factors made for a more cohesive slave population, with a reason to revolt and the education to do it.
Please also keep in mind, technical advancements were starting to make slavery obsolete and far more expensive to keep slaves. The cotton gin was invented in 1794, but slavery was not officially abolished until 1865. All perpetuated by a patent infringement preventing it from being profitable AT THE TIME. It makes you wonder who was pulling the strings behind all the patent chicanery, and while we can guess I think we all know the answer to that and if you are a really objective person than you are not going to say “the south”. Whitney, which is never taught in schools now, also manufactured musket parts. In 1798 Congress passed a bill for $800,000 in musket parts, and astronomical sum at that time. Whitney was a true con man, he signed a contract but had no factory, no workers, and zero experience in manufacturing arms. He was a crafty man, though, and brought is previous skill set to bear and did in fact make it happen. We history always repeats itself and the money train always rolled. War is profit for those that can see it. There was no money to be made in a peaceful resolution of slavery.
But pretending that slavery would not have ended organically rather than through war is disingenuous at best but really just plain stupid. The PTB did what they always do, and manipulate the market and the politicians of the time to make it seem like there was no other option but to go to war.
If you look at that particular facet of the equation, it makes much more sense to see that the war was about FAR more than freeing slaves. Like any war, even when American entered WW 2, it’s not the reason fed to the public.
I have yet to meet a politician that does anything out of the goodness of their hearts (if they have one), and there is always a back-and-forth and a lot of back-scratching that goes on to make things happen.
So what we are seeing now is also a ramping up to war. Anyone who doesn’t think so is living in serious denial and pulling a really hard ostrich maneuver.
The PTB will have a much easier time culling the herd that’s left if the herd culls itself first. And much like every other war before, an emotional trigger is much more effective at getting the party started no matter the facts. Facts just get in the way.

Jim, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Excluding the Battles of Manassas, you’ve forgotten more Civil War history than I’ll ever know. (I worked at the Battlefield over two summers…cleaning the latrines and displays at the Visitor Center, and weed-whacking every monument leaves an indelible mark on you. Jackson’s statue was an everyday site for us.) Like my mother, you Pennsylvanians seem to have been permanently moved by that horribly bloody war.

I completely concur with you. My passion is antebellum (am I still allowed to say that?) American history. I would have taught History at UVA if I didn’t need to make a living.

The reason you love history so much is because you’re from PA. As is my mother. I am from VA. Those from MA fall into the same category as us, meaning these three Commonwealths framed this union of several states. Franklin taught Jefferson. Jefferson collaborated with Madison. Sam Adams was the fire, the spirit.

And George Washington saved all of them.

This past weekend my sister went on long diatribe about white guilt and blame for all things black, brown and profane. I was rolling my eyes and looking for the exit. A wiser man would have gotten up and walked away but that is not how I’m made. Folks round here probably know I am always up for a good row with words.

/sarc

Anyways my niece then told those gathered about an ancestor in our family tree who owned slaves. Then the Progressive dogpile ensued. After the homilies were delivered we were obliged to bow our heads and ask Moloch for forgiveness. I didn’t oblige and wasn’t having any of it. This ancestor is from about 8 or 9 generations back or moar. In fact Liz Warren is probably more Indian than I am him. I was barely containing my rage about hearing story again. A story, I might add that, that came from a book report my niece did when she was in Grade 9 or 10. I told at the time that what was done to my niece amounted to child abuse but who am I to say. I’m not the mental health professional

So then I made my move and told the story about Mr. Anthony Johnson. Started off with the hook about his early life as an Indentured Servant, left out some line that Johnson was a slaveowner to reel the room in, then finished with the sinker that this man was black. I pointedly asked everyone there if his descendants should be held responsible for what Johnson had done……

My sister flipped out on me… At first she didn’t believe me but I stood my ground. Watching in amazement the change in tone as someone entrenched in a delusion was confronted with inconvenient historical facts… being overcome with cognitive dissonance, i watched bemused at it unfold..

At some point she relented, somewhat, and turned it into a question of exceptions.. A tactic well worn by those who lose there way. She consoled herself by saying that it happened just once. When I told her that in 1860 there were 1000’s of blacks owning 10’s of thousands slaves she completely lost her mind…

She was literally coming apart at the seams and looking like a lost scene from the movie “The Exorcist” started spitting and cursing. I wondered when she was going to do the head spin trick, where the Priest arrives to drive out the demons. Sadly she didn’t. To her credit she fought valiantly to keep her delusion in tact. It is a testament to her faith that she was able to hold fast to her ways. Proving once again to me that the demons that reside in her are strong and probably here to stay…

Leaving me no choice and more convinced than ever, that Socialism belongs in the DSM-5 as a Mental disorder.

My wife who was sitting there was shocked at spectacle. I wasn’t surprised in the least because just months ago my sister decided to engage me in another conversation. This time about abortion. That didn’t go well either.

Anyways my Seester then launches into a diatribe that I should get off the “conspiracy” websites and stop spreading fake news. I wasn’t by this time following her logic, but fortunately for all involved I was by this time being dragged by my wife towards the exit..

Sad that it is…

I have to scoff at my sister’s allegation. While it could be said that I troll the nether regions of the interwebs, I do try and keep an open mind. Reading all sorts of shit from all sorts places. Some of the stuff I agree with and some stuff I don’t.

This is the greatest weakness of the Left. The never have to test ideas. For folks on Right things are completely different. Unpopular views hone critical thinking. Coming here because I can test ideas and sharpen a critical mind, knowing that free speech is a contact sport. That one needs to be prepared for ideas to be confronted. Sometimes these ideas get pounced on.

It’s just part of the game..

My sister, on the other hand, gets her news from her Facebook feed. A place that slots her thinking in ways that she does not fully comprehend. It has made her world view brittle to competing ideas and it is getting worse over time. Making evident to me at least that Facebook is the Biggest Conspiracy website on the planet…

Angry today.

When I was a child my father advised, “when solving a problem, listen to what the majority are saying, then, figure out what the exact opposite of that solution is. Often the blindness of mobs prevent people from seeing *what* the problem actually is, then, with this in mind, consider BOTH.”
In this case,
Making the police weaker, softer ,rule laden and more handcuffed or defunded is allowing the intemperate to wreak havoc.

What would the opposite look like?

Perhaps an “officer friendly” patrol who come, film and observes mostly and Then decides if the FUCKING BERSERKER POLICE need to be dispatched,
The BESERKERS will be nameless, faceless, purposely hired psychopaths immune to ANY prosecution while employed.
No one, not even the officer friendlys will know who these masked nightmares are.
(Officer friendly will intercede if life or limb is in jeopardy. Otherwise they observe, and politely but firmly ask the offender to cooperate)
The public need to be endlessly informed that the BERSERKER POLICE have full authority to do ANYTHING they want to maintain order,
NO act is too outrageous or heinous,
NO force too much,
They will arrive in overwhelming FORCE armed to the nuts with anything they want to bring.
Machine guns
Hand grenades
Flame throwers.
Abrams tanks
Industrial wood chippers.
they will burn down your crack house with you in it if you don’t surrender.
And they will do it immediately after their first demand to surrender is rebuffed.
Rob some place and *shoot* at “officer friendly” and you. Are. Dead. Here comes the BERSERKERS.They will not stop until you are. Guaranteed.
They will kill the hostages to get to you.
Shoot a bazooka into a heroin den.
Run you over in the streets, killing innocents as well as the guilty.
They will drop a safe from a helicopter to stop your fleeing car.
They will machine gun you to hunks of hamburger and then go for a taco.
Gangs/ drug lords will have to disband or face a full on WAR against the BESERKERS.
They will have FULL authority to just get it done.
Anytime
EVERYTIME.
And full immunity.
*YOU DO NOT WANT OFFICER FUCK’N FRIENDLY TO CALL FOR THE BERSERKER POLICE*.

Ever.

You will stand down now, or I will call the BESERKERS.
Prison is a vacation compared to what happens next.
Word will spread,
They will televise their own mayhem.
The public will be horrified, but unable to do anything about it but whine.
Those committing crimes will understand that their time on earth is rapidly coming to a close.
Yup, Officer Friendly can abuse this.
KNOW THAT IT CAN BE ABUSED, be on your best, most polite behaviour if you even see a regular policeman.

This plan allows for those with temperate minds to cooperate, and for those with intemperate minds to exit the gene pool.
This is what the complete opposite of “what we are doing now”, looks like.
I think it could work.
Your pal
Scott.

And after being guilted for your White privilege then you change the channel (and that is about all the control you have, Bub – in the TV remote) and will go root for your favourite team of Negroes run up and down a court or field, and paying for the “privilege” of paying for your cable provider, by laying back in the comfy recliner or sofa for a fine weekend’s worth of football. Ha. Ha.Ha.

That’s why the ” civic conversation” with Maoist-Trotskyite revolutionaries, angry Negroes, Islamic Brotherhood, Hezbollah, and a whole list of other “activist” groups who hate America and hate you personally, and the authorities is a monologue – we riot, you capitulate.

That is the end goal of the Evil Cocksuckers behind the Great Race Riot of 2020.

And good honest Americans are taking all this fucking nonsense laying down and even kneeling at the feet of Negro terrorists. And apologizing. Really.

We are good citizens of the now defunct U.S.A. and are apparently real Paper Tigers.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_tiger

When someone decides to say, loud and clear “NO!” to the brigands, gangsters, criminals and terrorists then this stops. Until then the fire will burn and one way. Tearing Down America – one statue at a time.

The authorities who permit this are sure traitors.

Here’s how I envision the angry Negro mobs, Antifa scum and other Maoists, Jihadists or Trotskyites would like to provide you protection, due process of law, and their particular brand of “social justice” you white rayssisss mutherfucker:

Did you know that more Irish slaves were sold in the 17tcentury than black slaves? With a staggering death rate between 37% to 50%, this is the story the history books will not tell you.

White and Black Slaves in the Sugar Plantations of Barbados. None of the Irish victims ever made it back to their homeland to describe their ordeal. These are the lost slaves; the ones that time and biased history books conveniently forgot.

The first slaves imported into the American colonies were 100 White children. They arrived during Easter, 1619, four months before the arrival of a the first shipment of Black slaves.Mainstream histories refer to these laborers as indentured servants, not slaves, because many agreed to work for a set period of time in exchange for land and rights.

Yet in reality, indenture was enslavement, since slavery applies to any person who is bought and sold, chained and abused, whether for a decade or a lifetime. Many white people died long before their indenture ended or found that no court would back them when their owners failed to deliver on promises.Tens of thousands of convicts, beggars, homeless children and other undesirable English, Scottish, and Irish lower class were transported to America against their will to the Americas on slave ships. YES SLAVE SHIPS.

Many of the white slaves were brought from Ireland, where the law held that it was ?no more sin to kill an Irishman than a dog or any other brute.? The European rich class caused a lot of suffering to these people , even if they were white like them.In 1676, there was a huge slave rebellion in Virginia. Black and white slaves burned Jamestown to the ground. Hundreds died. The planters feared a re-occurence. Their solution was to divide the races against each other. They instilled a sense of superiority in the white slaves and degraded the black slaves. White slaves were given new rights; their masters could not whip them naked without a court order, etc. White slaves whose daily condition was no different from that of Blacks, were taught that they belonged to a superior people. The races were given different clothing. Living quarters were segregated for the first time. But the whites were still slaves.

In the 17th Century, from 1600 until 1699, there were many more Irish sold as slaves than Africans. There are records of Irish slaves well into the 18th Century. Many never made it off the ships. According to written record, in at least one incident 132 slaves, men, women, and children, were dumped overboard to drown because ships’ supplies were running low. They were drowned because the insurance would pay for an “accident,” but not if the slaves were allowed to starve.

Typical death rates on the ships were from 37% to 50%.In the West Indies, the African and Irish slaves were housed together, but because the African slaves were much more costly, they were treated much better than the Irish slaves. Also, the Irish were Catholic, and Papists were hated among the Protestant planters. An Irish slave would endure such treatment as having his hands and feet set on fire or being strung up and beaten for even a small infraction. Richard Ligon, who witnessed these things first-hand and recorded them in a history of Barbados he published in 1657, stated:”Truly, I have seen cruelty there done to servants as I did not think one Christian couldhave done to another.”(5)According to Sean O’Callahan, in To Hell or Barbados, Irish men and women were inspected like cattle there, just as the Africans were.

In addition, Irish slaves, who were harder to distinguish from their owners since they shared the same skin color, were branded with the owner’s initials, the women on the forearm and the men on the buttocks. O’Callahan goes on to say that the women were not only sold to the planters as sexual slaves but were often sold to local brothels as well. He states that the black or mulatto overseers also often forced the women to strip while working in the fields and often used them sexually as well.(6)The one advantage the Irish slaves had over the African slaves was that since they were literate and they did not survive well in the fields, they were generally used as house servants, accountants, and teachers. But the gentility of the service did not correlate to the punishment for infractions.

Flogging was common, and most slave owners did not really care if they killed an easily replaceable, cheap Irish slave. While most of these slaves who survived were eventually freed after their time of service was completed, many leaving the islands for the American colonies, many were not, and the planters found another way to insure a free supply of valuable slaves. They were quick to “find solace” and start breeding with the Irish slave women. Many of them were very pretty, but more than that, while most of the Irish were sold for only a period of service, usually about 10 years assuming they survived, their children were born slaves for life.

The planters knew that most of the mothers would remain in servitude to remain with their children even after their service was technically up.The planters also began to breed the Irish women with the African male slaves to make lighter skinned slaves, because the lighter skinned slaves were more desirable and could be sold for more money. A law was passed against this practice in 1681, not for moral reasons but because the practice was causing the Royal African Company to lose money. According to James F. Cavanaugh, this company, sent 249 shiploads of slaves to the West Indies in the 1680’s, a total of 60,000 African and Irish, 14,000 of whom died in passage.(7)While the trade in Irish slaves tapered off after the defeat of King James in 1691, England once again shipped out thousands of Irish prisoners who were taken after the Irish Rebellion of 1798.

These prisoners were shipped to America and to Australia, specifically to be sold as slaves. No Irish slave shipped to the West Indies or America has ever been known to have returned to Ireland. Many died, either in passage or from abuse or overwork. Others won their freedom and emigrated to the American colonies. Still others remained in the West Indies, which still contain an population of “Black Irish,” many the descendents of the children of black slaves and Irish slaves. In 1688, the first woman killed in Cotton Mather’s witch trials in Massachusetts was an old Irish woman named Anne Glover, who had been captured and sold as a slave in 1650.

She spoke no English. She could recite The Lord’s Prayer in Gaelic and Latin, but without English, Mather decided her Gaelic was discourse with the devil, and hung her.It was not until 1839 that a law was passed in England ending the slave trade, and thus the trade in Irish slaves. It is unfortunate that, while the descendents of black slaves have kept their history alive and not allowed their atrocity to be forgotten, the Irish heritage of slavery in America and the West Indies has been largely ignored or forgotten.

“It’s too bad these functional illiterates didn’t pay attention in history class or ever read a book.”

The problem is not the they ‘ … didn’t pay attention in history class or ever read a book.’ — it’s the they’ve been brought up with public school teachers who’ve themselves been totally indoctrinated in their own college studies to hate the US and then these public students being forced to read all of the wrong books — like howard zinn’s purported ‘history’ book that’s now mandatory across the US public school system.

And, of course, since the NYTimes came out with their disgusting ‘1619’ article — which numerous historians and history teachers have declared to be full of many inaccuracies — it’s become mandatory in a large number of public school systems.

Change is inevitable … progress is optional …

My biggest pet peeve about this “civil war”, beside the fact there was nothing “civil” about it, is that it was not a civil war by definition. The south was not trying to overthrow the US gov’t. The reason the south calls it the war of northern aggression is because the north attacked Fort Sumpter because the south was sending their cotton to England for processing because it was cheaper. Instead of sending it north and having the cotton being taxed in every state going north, and then after it was processed into cloth it was taxed in every state going south. It was about economics not slavery. Thomas DiLorenzo has written extensively about that war. Check out his articles on Lew Rockwell.com. It might be enlightening.

If you think the civil war was all about slavery, you don’t know your history.
But then the victors right the history books so I guess we can’t expect much from the intellectual lazy.
A hint: you can’t kill thousands of your fellow country men over tariffs and taxes, it has to be painted over with a just cause. You know, like what currently happened in the ME. Operation enduring freedom ….etc.
