TV And The Cloud People

Guest Post by The Zman

The other day, Tucker Carlson told someone that Trump trusts television more than he trusts the pollsters, when it comes to judging the public mood. Having spent years working in TV, Trump not only knows a lot about it, but he thinks the good TV people know more about public tastes than the political professionals. The political class, of course, roared in laughter. They think Trump is a rube, of course, but they are also sure they know more about the Dirt People than the Dirt People know about themselves.

This is another case where Trump’s common sense serves him well. The people who have long careers in television, making hit shows, all have something in common. They make it their first priority to give the public what they want. Whatever political or personal agendas they have are secondary to putting on a good show. Unlike a pollster or political operator, the guy pitching TV shows has skin in the game. He has to be good at gauging public attitudes or else the show flops. The pollsters never suffer for being wrong.

The thing is though, the TV shows also tell us, the Dirt People, something about the people who rule over us. Hollywood is, after all, the class of people in American, whose duty it is to sing the praises of our rulers. It’s also their job to sell the public on the official cultural agenda. Whatever fads or social issues are being pushed by our ruling class, will be praised in our TV shows and movies. It’s why all of our action heroes are barren cat ladies now. It’s why commercials are now full of race mixing.

On rare occasions, the people making this stuff reveal things about themselves and about the ruling class in general. Someone recommended the series House of Cards to me the other day, so I have been watching a few episodes a night over the last week. As far as this stuff goes, it is not as good as I would have expected. The chattering classes swooned over it when it came out, but it is not in the same league as a show like Breaking Bad. Still, it is not terrible and it is easy to see why people would enjoy it.

Usually, political dramas are terrible because the makers are more concerned with selling a political agenda. The shows are just thinly veiled political ads for the Democrat Party and various Progressive agenda items. That means lots of shows about abortion or sexually confused people being roughed up by the honky. House of Cards, at least so far, avoids that stuff and sticks to the intrigues of the main characters. People, especially women, like watching that sort of thing and this is show clearly written by and aimed at women.

The fascinating thing is that is the politicians are portrayed as true masters of the universe. All but a few minor characters are portrayed as Bismarkian level political operators. The main character would make Machiavelli blush. Usually Hollywood portrays politicians as evil and stupid or sincere and naive. House of Cards is a one long celebration of the genius and cleverness of the political class. It’s not the issues they champion that makes them wonderful. It is their nature. They are just better than us.

That is made clear in how the politicians in the show deal with Dirt People and the news media characters. The Dirt People are all dumb and helpless without government. The main character solicits a rib joint in the first season. Once this gets out, the rib joint gets famous, but the inherent defects in the proprietor and his Dirt People habits, lead him to failure, as he inevitably does stupid Dirt Man things, like try to help his son. The main character is forced to cut him loose and let him slide back into the muck.

The portrayal of the news media is the most interesting. On the other hand, they are universally portrayed as loathsome clingers, who serve only to drag down the Cloud People. The female reporters are whores, who will bang anyone for a story. The males are feckless and stupid. The one exception thus far in the show is the owner if a newspaper that is supposed to be the Washington Post. The owner of it is a Katherine Graham like Cloud Person, but her people are all loathsome Dirt People.

This is the most interesting part of the show thus far. I’m into season two now. The main character has murdered one reporter, had one framed for a serious crime and scared another off to the hinterlands. He also has engineered the termination of a big shot editor at the Washington Post. None of this treated as a big deal. These news media types are so low on the food chain in the mind’s of the writers, that throwing one of them in front of a speeding train is no big deal. Even Trump does not hate the media that much

It is easy to overstate these things, but House of Cards is one rare example of the Hollywood people revealing things about themselves and their masters. It may be the result of Netflix producing it, rather than a Hollywood shop. For generations the people making TV shows have stuck to the script when it comes to the class structure in America.  Alternatively, this was deliberate. The makers wanted to flatter the political class by telling them things they tell themselves. The result is a window into the political class.

“The people who have long careers in television, making hit shows, all have something in common. They make it their first priority to give the public what they want. Whatever political or personal agendas they have are secondary to putting on a good show.”

It would be almost impossible to state something as false as that with such conviction.

Not true.

TV is like hospital food, there might appear to be choices for us to make, but it’s all coming from the same source and it’s all the same. We’ve been force fed so much crap for so long and always with and agenda of a very small minority of ideologically oriented people- while being told this is “what the public wants”- that much like victims of Stockholm Syndrome, we’ve actually come to believe it.

I wonder what else they might have in common. I’m sure it’s just another coincidence, though.

Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. The third time it’s enemy action.

He does a bait and switch, at first he says the Hollywood crowd has principles; giving the audience what it wants. Then he goes on to deny the whole thing. Unless he meant they give the people in power what they want to see and not the po’ folks. I’m not sure po’ folks care for mixed race couples in every damn commercial or blacks in positions of authority in every damn cop or political show. If you push the issue long enough, it will someday be inconceivable that a white woman would marry a white man or that a white man would attempt to rule. I have this urge to go pick lettuce now.

The sexy mulatta calls it ‘trying to hide the sun with a thumb’. You can’t deny the obvious facts all around us. I see a lot of doctors, police chiefs and mayors walking around our neighborhood. Hollywood goes out of its way to show them what they like to see on TV.

I just can’t put my finger on it…

Man of Steel, did you know they were Jews who created Superman? Jerome “Jerry” Siegel, along with Joe Shuster, were the creators of Superman, the first of the great comic book superheroes and one of the most recognizable of the 20th century.

Every show has interracial trysts, fag affairs, gender confused actors, single parents, women as Hero’s and/or straight white males who are dunderheads.

I watch TLC (yes, I have to be a critical thinker while watching), history channel and discovery channel. No, they aren’t always on the up and up either but you don’t get the in-your-face social engineering like the other shows/channels.

Maybe that’s why TV is losing viewership.

I know that I just turn the TV off and stop watching whenever one of those themes is introduced (which is usually within the first to third episode). Lately, they seem to be promoting homosexual relations even if it is not only unrelated to the theme of the show but actually diverts from it.

Lately I’ve been pretty much watching foreign TV series on Netflix in place of American ones, they still produce reasonably moral shows and more interesting themes than American ones. Once you get used to reading subtitles it’s not distracting to have to do it (I don’t speak Korean). The Russians put out some pretty good stuff as well along with some of the non Scandinavian European nations.

OMG, Anonymous, I tried to turn Stucky onto Korean soapys. They are the moral upright shows you miss from Mayberry. My favorite of all time was a body switch farce called Oh La La Couple.

After that, I grew to despise and even hate Mexican novelas – talk about giving folks shit, the whole of Mexican shows piss me off now, they are retarded and the people in charge are so obviously minions of the Oligarchy.

Mexico only has compulsory education up to the sixth grade. Imagine if your kid stopped going to school after sixth grade. Now imagine the majority of kids, except the rich kids, doing that here.

Now you see why they come here. They want a better life for their kids, education being the key. In the meantime, the immigrant parents are oafish, ignorant louts. They will work for pennies to insure their kids get an education.

My wife and I have long observed the not so subtle images put forth
on TV advertising

The black guy is brilliant and the white guy kind of silly or stupid.

One ad has a black family has 2 big homes, 2 kids and a Mercedes.

Every ad has 2 blacks, 2 whites, maybe one asian and very rarely
a hispanic
All very politically correct and progressive , but a fairy tale
We too are turning off the TV more and more. We don’t watch the NFL at all and no longer watch any news including FOX

Thankfully, we still have alternative media

That’s probably why there is a move on to outlaw, or at least banish, alternative media.

This is what Netflix thinks the Dirt People want. If that’s the case, we are so far past saving we may as well just eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we will die.
I think I will cancel our Netflix, this is trash and even though it’s labeled as an adult comedy, you know kids will be watching.

Wow, Mary Christine, that show you linked is shocking and beyond disgusting. Netflix has sunk to a new low and should not be supported by those of us with an ounce of decency.

Just another example of the Cultural Marxists continuing their all out assault on morality, common decency and Western culture. It will only get worse until it can not get any more degenerate, or until enough people speak out against it.

The word “incest” is now considered a slur by the progressives as they prefer to call it “genetic sexual attraction.” They consider it no different than homosexuality or transgenderism.

Just finished watching season 3 of a detective series on BBC. This series in the beginning was well done with good story lines. This past season was appalling in the way men were portrayed. The storyline was a rape who-done-it. EVERY single male character in the whole show except the lead male detective were either vilely evil or weak as all get out. And even then, the male detective admitted at one point that he was ashamed to be a man. But not the women. Oh no, they were all strong, moral, and most importantly, gravely wronged by these horrible men. Unbelievable. Time to cross another once entertaining show off the list. And bye-bye to BBC.

We cut the cable years ago. I just get interweb and phone. I don’t know what’s on TV unless someone tells me about it or it’s online. I watch utub or I torrent what I hear is good and don’t miss the rest.
The exception is work, where we have a TV that used to be on Fox or CNN, but the political tension in the room got too high around the last election, so it’s usually on American Heroes, the Crime Channel, or History. Recently, the smarter people in the room have elected to watch The Price is Right, which is painful. Thankfully, I have sound-canceling headphones so I can watch AK Operators Union Local 4774 or AvE’s BOLTR on utub.

One thing that mystifies me is how the History channel can dump history almost entirely for “reality” shows. I don’t know why people care about this crap.
I like House of Cards, but I think they jumped the shark when the main character became the president. Since then, I feel like the writers sort of got stuck in a corner.

I try not to watch network TV with a few exceptions. At least so far I like Lucifer; we tried to get back into Gotham last night but it was a tough slog, the new _Orville_ sci-fi looks a lot like early _Star Trek_ (before we knew Sulu was gay) with a sad script on an alien society resisting change.
Most network TV is enough to make you puke; the SJW-signalling, weird and pointless sex and gender issues, mindless violence for violence’s sake. I’d rather read a book most days.
Real people don’t behave this way – in science fiction with alien societies full of creatures with unknown habits / traits / behaviors, this is a virtue. But in SF, the goal is to create a logical, believable world – not one filled with creatures that behave randomly as the fit hits them. Spock had big ears, not because he needed them to radiate heat (a typical Earth reason, as with elephants) but because the atmosphere on Vulcan was thinner and he needed them to hear clearly and acutely.
Today’s TV writers would say they made him more attractive sexually to other homosexuals.

You guys watch TV? I spend my tv time on TBP. My co-worker sometimes tries to share some shit she sees on the reality (Survivor) or awards shows. I tell her I do not watch tv. She comes back with, yes you do, you watch… A stupid show I only watched for one episode and then had no time to follow up on because I was engaged in a deadly shitfest here, if only as an observer – I’m a pacifist.

Years ago, I was shocked at the language on TV. It was a brief scene about a guy about to waste another guy. They had been lovers and the killer tells the victim to be that he regretted having to do this since he had really enjoyed his ass. UGH! That was the end for me. Fuck that trash, I will not watch that shit.
