Hillary Is America

National Review

Psychologically, there’s nothing out of the ordinary about Hillary in contemporary America.

Guest post by Robert Gore at Straight Line Logic

Fyodor Dostoyevsky would have been the right author to illuminate the inner world of Hillary Clinton. He had the imaginative power to show the psychological deterioration—the rickety castle of lies she’s built to shut out threatening realities and the truth.

For all of Dostoyevsky’s skill, it probably would have been beyond him to dramatically render America’s degenerate descent. Hillary’s supporters believe she’s extraordinary; her detractors believe she’s a tragic anomaly. They’re both wrong. The real tragedy is that in contemporary America, there’s nothing exceptional about her other than her criminality, and how exceptional is that? Shutting out reality and the truth are national pastimes. She’s not psychologically differentiated in any way from the crowd, and her access to platforms allows her to peddle what it wants to hear.

Many people’s first impression of Hillary came from her and Bill’s famous 60 Minutes interview after the 1992 Super Bowl. She said she wasn’t Tammy Wynette, standing by her man, as she stood by her man despite allegations of a 12-year affair with Gennifer Flowers. She may have saved her man’s presidential campaign. Hillary’s 60 Minutes performance garnered a consensus 5-star rating. Only later would it be reconsidered.

In 10 minutes of television, she projected a set of complicated, even conflicting images—forthright but defensive, feisty but dutiful—triggering the mix of skeptical, antagonistic feelings that have defined her with a share of the American public ever since.

The TV Interview That Haunts Hillary Clinton,” Politico, 9/23/16 (LINK)).

At the time, Bill’s philandering wasn’t widely documented. The Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky, Juanita Broaddrick, and Kathleen Willey allegations and revelations would surface during his presidency. Nevertheless, Hillary had to have numerous clues, if not outright knowledge, of Bill’s relaxed attitude towards his marriage vows. Was she in denial?

That relatively charitable explanation became less plausible as accusations about Bill’s liaisons, attempted liaisons, and sexual assaults filled the alternative media and even on occasion the mainstream media, where they were usually dismissed. The accusations fueled Hillary’s fury…against the accusers. She spearheaded the effort to discredit them, contrary to her claim that women don’t lie about sexual harassment.

By the end of Bill’s presidency, it was clear that Hillary’s support was not rooted in love or denial, but crass opportunism at the cost of self-respect. She kept her wagon hitched to her husband’s star because he was her ticket. A woman of modest gifts and almost no political skill, everything she had achieved had been through Bill. She would need him to launch her political career.

How do you account for the American people’s long infatuation with government? Is it love coupled with denial? How many are like the cuckold who repeatedly find his wife in bed with other men? They remain smitten even as the government goes from lie to lie, betrayal to betrayal. Consider a list of political prevarications, by no means exhaustive.

A “modest” income tax will only be levied on the very rich. A central bank will smooth out economic fluctuations, stop financial crises, and maintain the value of the dollar. President Wilson will keep us out of Europe’s War. World War I will be the war to end all wars and make the world safe for democracy. The New Deal will end the Great Depression. President Roosevelt will keep us out of Europe’s war. World War II will be the war to end all wars and make the world safe for democracy. Dropping atomic bombs on Japan is necessary to save a million American lives. The Communists want to rule the world. The president was killed by a lone gunman. There is light at the end of the tunnel in Vietnam. “I am not a crook.” Whip Inflation Now. Wars against poverty, drugs, and terrorism will eradicate poverty, drugs, and terrorism. Legally mandated racial, ethnic, and gender preferences are not discriminatory. The Muslims want to rule the world. Invading foreign countries, fighting undeclared wars, and regime changes will make the world safe for democracy. Spying on you full-time will make you safer and preserve your freedom. If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor; if you like your plan you can keep your plan.

Yet, faith in government runs deep, there’s still that substantial segment who believes whatever it tells them.

However, like Hillary’s support of Bill, most of those who now back the government do so opportunistically, a nice way of saying they’ve been bought off…at the cost of self-respect. The millions receiving redistributed and vote-buying largess are told they have more right to it than the people from whom it was taken. The string-pullers at the top of the lucrative military-industrial-intelligence complex, the medical, education, and welfare rackets, the government debt and central bank swindles, and other sundry scams abandoned morality in their formative years. Bill boinks bimbos; the government is organized crime, so what? A juxtaposition of The Godfather, Part 2 and an infamous Hillary quote offers what passes as rationalization: We’re all part of the same hypocrisy, what difference does it make?

Besides such opportunism and rationalization, Hillary is the template for another psychological dodge: escape into fantasy. Up to her eyeballs in charges of illicit and illegal Russian collusion, her oft-repeated claims that Russia stole the election sound like the bizarre ravings of a street-corner crazy.

Aren’t the unshakeable tenets of American denial just as crazy, if not more so? We can continuously spend more than we earn. In stocks, bonds, debt, and central banks we trust. Underfunded pensions and medical funds will take care of the elderly, even as their numbers steadily increase relative to the number of younger workers who will supposedly support them. The US must maintain global order. The rest of the world likes it when the indispensable nation tells it what to do. Invading foreign countries and instituting a police state at home make us safer. Terrorism and refugee migration are not blowback from our own policies. People’s race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual preferences are more important than their merits as individuals. And so on and so on and so on.

It’s tragic when a drunk hits bottom, in a gutter somewhere covered in his own vomit. If, when he regains consciousness his disgust and self-loathing prompt him to acknowledge and address his alcoholism, something good can come from something bad. America has a looming rendezvous with a brick wall. Afterwards, those who have feasted on government will find there’s little to scavenge. Those who denied the impending crash won’t emerge from the wreckage.

The few who do emerge will do so with psychological defenses breached and illusions shattered. Awakened, they’ll offer a hope of recovery and redemption. As with the chastened drunk in the gutter, however, it will be a long, slow slog and there are no guarantees.

“most of those who now back the government do so opportunistically,”. Could not agree more. Government is someones hammer to beat their neighbor. Ever notice how in child support hearings, the spouse that brings the other to court thinks that the “judge” will side with them? Does not matter what the issue is, but as long as the “court” is screwing them it is fine. Companies are “good corporate citizens” according to the media, as long as they are contributing to some politicians favorite charity (or campaign coffer). But wait till they don’t pay, then they “have misled the public” and the same politician is appalled.
It is all a game of who has the guns, and how they can leverage them against their opponent. This is the inevitable result of a country run by men and no longer governed by laws.

We did choose the nasty, carrion-eating, Bald Eagle as our national symbol (despite the objection from Benjamin Franklin), so perhaps a grifter couple from Arkansas rising to such prominence is perfectly fitting. I agree that Hillary absolutely ‘is’ America.

The image of the eagle was one of the noble hunter. But, whatever positive characteristics the eagle was meant to impart on the US, they rarely apply anymore. The grifter couple from arkansas (great line by the way, I’m using that) is no doubt much more fitting. Never done a god damn thing in their lives except get into government, and then use that position to personally enrich themselves.

This overly romantic view of this harridan is rather ridiculous. Hillary is a power hungry old hag. She uses power to get money and live past what her meager abilities would allow. The Romneys and Bush Family are no different. Low rent talentless con men and shills really. They have no real skills, just a bunch of desires for the “good life” of Champagne, Caviar, Sex, Drugs, Parties and armies of sycophants catering to their overblown egos.
Hillary is said to have Carpet Münchhausen Syndrome. She and Huma are really, really close. Suffering Sappho, Buttman! I doubt the skirt chasing bothers her much. That daughter looks a lot like Webster Hubble. I guess Billy Bubba was inside someone else and not available to be the sperm donor for the fake family life she and hubbie needed to look “Normal” or heteronormative in crazy talk.
These are second and third rate wannabes. Corruption doesn’t allow Top Men to get to the top. They will not accept bribes for power. They can get all the money they want, cause they are strong. Power follows money. Unless you get weak and incapable fools to sell out. They have to be drunks, wastrels, druggies, perverts, and freaks. Take a look at the swamp. THERE YOU GO…

Gayle, I get it. I put off reading this (although I do respect Robert’s writing style) because I really do not LIKE Hillary.

I agree that the analogy/metaphor (which one depends on what Is Is?) is not inaccurate. Hillary would do just about anything to hang onto power and if she’d thought she could further her political goals without Billy Horndog attached, she’d probably have divorced him. However, feminist carpet munching was not yet in vogue in the 1980s when Bill’s relationships with a number of women became notorious in Arkansas circles. (What ever happened to the young black man who claimed to have been fathered by Clinton and looked like him? And, I think there was another paternity claim while he was running for president, too.)

It is good writing, Robert. However, you probably scared people with the picture of Hillary at the top. You seemed to be applauding her. You should have tried one of these images as being more in character.

I agree that Hillary is nothing more than a no-talent opportunist and carpetbagger. She is not equative of all Americans but unfortunately I think she is not unlike many American women.

Since I started working fresh out of college almost two decades ago there has been a constant drumbeat in my profession that we need more women. Why? Of course for diversity – with no data to provide evidence it’ll make any difference in the work we produce. Well the universities have been graduating female dominated classes since I was matriculating so getting women into the profession was preordained at that point. Instead the sights have been on upper management and ownership in the private companies that make up the profession.

Now I’m not anti-woman but the arguments have never been about merit and always about equity. Mind you women in the profession have had every ability to start their own companies and go their own way – and the best of the profession have done so. The ones with more marginal skills have demanded a de-facto affirmative action into the upper echelons of companies they did not build. When not offered it the complaint is always “a good old boys club.” How is that any different that Hillary’s? Climb the ranks off of what men have done before them and then demand the top spot because of what genitalia they have. Notice how married women with children didn’t support Hillary yet single professional women did? Yes…there are a lot of women that aren’t just like Hillary, but they are similar. Very similar.

These are the lowlifes America has ALLOWED the worthless two-party system to put up as candidates over the past few decades (not to mention the completely useless garbage that has been elected to the House and the Senate (with a small handful of exceptions). Rob Peter to pay Paul, wage endless wars for the profits of big business and the banksters, destroy private property rights, destroy personal freedom, destroy individual liberty, create the illusion of growing prosperity, provide “free” schools – regardless of their quality, create a permanent underclass of welfare recipients, etc. These are the things the majority of those voting honestly want it would seem. I am currently reading “Sellout: The Inside Story of President Clinton’s Impeachment” by David P. Schippers (Chief Investigative Counsel) and it is nauseating to see how despicable the Clintons really are when giving sworn testimony. How calculating they are when determining whether they can get away with “I don’t recall” and whether they may need to confuse the issue with misdirection: I can’t remember giving Ms. Lewinsky gifts, could you tell me what they may have been?

I say “they” because we all saw Hillary do exactly the same thing when questioned on Bengazi. I just read through a lot of her testimony and saw the exact same type of word parsing … answering questions in ways that cloud the meaning of both the question and the answer. And, she appears to prefer “I can’t recollect…” to “I don’t recall.”

The American people re-elected Clinton (although, in Sellout, there is evidence of White House pressure to rush the naturalization of immigrants who were Democrat voters) in spite of knowing he was a womanizer, a scoundrel and a liar. They bought the idea that it was just about “sex” when it was about perjury and obstruction of justice. And then, they accepted the Hildebeast as a viable candidate for President in spite of knowing she’d been a willing accomplice to her husband’s lies. The American public accepted Hillary’s lies as easily as they’d swallowed the lies from Bill Clinton AND the Senators who refused to even look at the evidence, telling Schippers he didn’t care if they could prove Clinton raped a woman and shot her dead, they wouldn’t impeach the President. (That is word for word almost from the book, but I do not know if it is paraphrased or direct. Schippers is careful to distinguish but at this late hour 2 a.m., ironically, I CAN’T RECALL, and am not going to look.)

So, at this point, Robert, I sadly agree with you on a level I wish I could ignore. Hillary really IS America, or perhaps I will concede America has become Clintonesque in its ability to ignore the truth by refusing to admit truth exists as long as telling and accepting lies has payoff value.

People do not vote their conscience; they vote their pocketbook.

Sickened by the realization that the sworn oaths of Senators could not be trusted, she closed her book, typed her last comment of the evening and walked upstairs. Tomorrow, she thought, is another day.

I agree that was a good comment Maggie.

If you have the stomach for it and want another good look (of millions) at how corrupt Billary Clinton is try giving Jack Cashill and James Sanders book – “First Strike: TWA Flight 800 and the Attack on America” a read.

Those guys show the level of corruption between the Clintons and all of the ‘law enforcement’ agencies to control that investigation in order to preserve Bills re-election. It was disgusting.

Bill controlled the Justice Department, but it was micromanaged by Hillary. They both controlled and manipulated the FBI, CIA, FAA, DOT, etc., and those agencies themselves showed how deeply corrupt and dangerous to the American citizen they are. The heros were arrested and jailed. The liars and crooks all got promotions and raises.

As we say in business when speaking of management – shit floats…

And TWA was finished as an airline.

To me that book wasn’t so much about the destruction of the plane – which was an interesting case – it was about how the Clinton’s controlled the government agencies and the level of lies, deceit, and downright cruelty they are both capable of.

It should have been required reading for everyone thinking of voting for Hillary in 2016.

But, as you said Maggie – they probably wouldn’t have cared…

My obsession with this issue is Admin’s fault. I picked up some literature to help resolve what I believed to be conflicting themes in AntiFragile. I especially tried to understand how it is our language itself that complicates understanding. For example, we banter, chat, talk, converse and try to use words to convince others we know what we are talking about. Clintons use language to distract and confuse intentionally.

For the “intelligentsia” aka “our betters” legalese is largely made to show-off, confuse people, delude them, charm them, seduce them, scare them, exploit them, etc. Since the words are carefully chosen to restrict the clarification of any information, one has to accept the game and its rules because, as Joe Biden was quoted as saying in Sellout: “We (Politicians/Senators) make the rules.”

At most we glean real information from the games our politicos play as a side effect. Perhaps it becomes like a sidebar, somewhat like Pancho Villa’s biography might appear in a discussion of the Mexican Revolution. (yes, that’s a nod to you) Those of us who understand how fragile language seems to be during the chaotic changes ongoing during the Fourth Turning underway are very careful to choose words and topics very cautiously, lest we end up walking on broken glass.

The fragments of glass spread before us might easily represent the dangers we face every single day when we awake to discover yet another horrific event has been visited upon our nation founded in freedom, liberty and justice for all. Who broke the glass and tossed it carelessly across the fruited plains? Why can’t we stop them from the villainy? Why aren’t the people we elected to prevent this, or at least to punish this, making it go away? With every horrific event, I discover the first cracks in the glass seem to track back to executive actions made by Bill Clinton. It is time for my walk, but I will try to gather thoughts and add to this discussion upon my return.

Thanks for getting my attention away from the evils of Yahoo.
